  • how do you learn to play like that!?

  • @jazzmanpiano1 Not something you can learn, you must experience it.

  • oscars hands are like racing horses....my goodness...

  • @neilraoufsw I must say this is the best comment I've seen on YT in awhile....thanks for sharing your humor LMAO!! How true....

  • This is the best video on youtube.

  • well i think i'll just go sell my piano now

  • Justin Bieber disliked this vid!

  • Just Sublime - what else can person say that does this justice

  • Deamt, that was amazing

  • Guys, Marc Andre Hammelin is also Canadian.

  • What is the track that Oscar Peterson plays as his opening

  • @Fence4Life It’s “Body and Soul”.

  • Why is the nationality so important? The Jazz music given by Oscar is the greatest gift to the world. And Oscar was a great Canadian musician.

  • I LOVE Oscar! My favorite of his arrangements....Little Girl Blue...beautiful enough to bring tears.

  • 8:05 yea! :)

  • i cant play body and soul nowhere near how oscar peterson plays it...definitely one of the greats!

  • RIP Oscar Peterson

  • oscar peterson maybe canada's greatest musical gift to the world, sorry celine!

  • @hamiltonjsh .... haha.. Celine who?

  • @hamiltonjsh not forgetting glenn gould, off course!

  • @hamiltonjsh Oscar Is Canada's great gift. It was a while before I learned of his nationality, then I tried to make him american! To me, there was NO way he could not be! I'm so sick of celine any ways!

  • @Darrell1019 ye but he's not american. so there isn't NO way he couldn't be

  • @hamiltonjsh gelnn gould does not count here yeah...?!

  • @hamiltonjsh sorry celine??? GLENN GOULD AND OSCAR PETERSON 2 greatest piano players, first is the greatest in Classics, second is the greatest in Jazz

  • @hamiltonjsh As much as I like Oscar Peterson, I have a way bigger admiration for Glenn Gould haha Canada has produced some very good musicians.

  • @hamiltonjsh glenn gould??? marc andre hamelin????

  • @hamiltonjsh Don't forget Gordon Lightfoot - agenuis also in a different genre!

  • This interview is fantastic. I've watched it several times and just wish there was some way to own this on dvd. There are other marvelous clips on youtube of Oscar, many with BBC in the corner of the screen. Does anyone know where to purchase these treasures?

  • just take it off of youtube?

  • There is probably NO-ONE who will ever better Oscar's mastery of Jazz and its intricacies on the keyboard. What a man. RIP Oscar. Greatly missed.

  • He was classically trained.

  • TWO GIANTS...YOW !!

  • An amusing Larson cartoon has, as an "infamous moment in jazz": Oscar Petersen forgets the chords to Body and Soul. As if!!!

  • Nothing like greats talking about greats'.

  • Body and Soul in Dflat. Freakishly big hands, with great flexibiltiy and a great ear all in one person. Music is a vast and complex discipline. We all have some weaknesses and some strengths. Previn may not be the jazz pianist of Peterson's caliber but no doubt he has writing skills that Peterson does not.

  • One of the MOST memorable interviews Previn ever did! Peterson's technique is simply incredible!

  • Oscar Peterson is unreasonably good. UNREASONABLY.

  • My highest regards to Previn. He is a VERY talented musician himself. But in this interview, he shows so much humility and has a wonderful appreciation towards Oscar. Previn is obviously a musician who hasn't gotten tangled up in his own ego.

  • Wow is all I can say!

  • I know its about the piano playing but thats a great camera angle at 0:42

  • whoaaa.. i didnt know Previn could get down.

i thought he was just some classical cat. amazing thank you for the post

  • Few people know that in the 50's Andre had the biggest selling jazz album with "My Fair Lady " ( SHELLY MANNE AND HIS FRIENDS). It was the top album for TWO YEARS !!!

  • Never knew Previn was this good... (referring to the BBC 4 program a couple of nights ago)

  • Just saw this last night for Previn's 80th b'day. This is class. Thanks for posting it.

Awesome to see two greats of their respective genres being so casual and just having a bit of fun. Deffo getting more of this stuff

  • what is the name of that tune in the begining

  • nope, it's Body and Soul

  • yup.. body and soul

  • Thank you so much for this! It was fantastic!!

  • Thanks for the post. Absolutely love it.

  • The first song is sooo tatumesque to me. It just reaffirms oscar's genius for me.

  • In case you were wondering, it's 'I'm in the Mood for Love'.

  • I wasn't wondering. It's actually "Body and Soul".

  • dude, get your act together, and listen to jazz. It's body and soul.

  • How do you tell?

  • what do you mean...? he is playing the melody, dear.

  • lol I'm just struggling to hear, my lady.

  • Thanks SO much for posting these AMAZING vidoes. They are sublime! Could you possibly tell me where I could obtain the full copy (DVD or VHS) for myself please?

  • He plays while smiling, that is SO COOL

  • this is fantastic!! thanks for posting it. I love Oscar Peterson and Andre Previn.

  • Thanks for this interview - beautiful stuff.

  • When did this event take place?

  • to even hear the great Oscar Peterson speak.. is just AMAZING!!

  • OSCAR LIVe For Ever

  • What a pitty, that 23th of Dezember 2007 must happen!

    Oscar is unforgetable!

( Don't be angry about my English, I'm German! )

  • Thanks for adding this set of videos, they were here sometime ago but they had it removed somehow. Shame that it is out of sync, but that's not a major problem.

  • Don't be angry about sycronisation, listen the words!
