It's great to find others who love twilight, too. How did you feel about the break up scene when you saw it in the theatre? The screaming scenes that follow (while she sleeps) literally tear my heart out, because I've lived through that pain myself, and that is exactly what you feel like.

i think Kristen did a fantastical job. she cares about people and she cares about her fans. people don't understand her, so they judge her and that's what's wrong with the world today - people judge way too much. she deserves more credit than people give her. i just wish people would stop cutting her down. she's a person, just like everyone else. i love her and wish her all the support that anyone could give to someone else.
guys i think she did the break up scene perfectly! In the book, bella isn't described in the brake up scene as being sad about this, she doesn't really know what is happening. She show her sadness later on in the book!
I think thats how her reaction should be because in the book Bella was try to undersand what had said to her because was numb and she was breathing hard. Kirsten did a good job.

First of all, Bella never reacts how most people react to anything. That fact is stated all through the books.
One of her character flaws, Bella's not Kristen's, is that she was always convinced that she wasn't good enough for Edward, so when she thinks he has just said that she isn't good enough for him, she isn't at all surprised. He was just confirming what she already new.
I think Rob & Kris both captured how Edward & Bella would have reacted in that situation.

I actually agree with you completely. I'm the girl on the left (Cristina Marie -- my channel) and I don't recall being insanely judgmental on kristen. I have been acting my entire life up until I began college, so I have a bit of a frame of reference. But I also understand that screen acting and stage acting are entirely different things. Which diminishes my reference a little. But I LOVE Kristen, and I know that not all of us can be pleased. She did her best, and that's all I can ask for

I think they played out this sceen perfect. So far it is so close to the book, a lot more then Twilight was. Rob was perfect in it, so cold it broke my heart. Kristen is not a diverse actress, all of her roles are the same. That being said I think it was played out well and left me heart broken!

i think chris weitz stayed extremely true to the book with this scene and i loved it so much!!! i DO think that rob did a better job than kristen. i know she was trying so hard to pull it off. her expressions were good. in the book bella is supposed to be very numb. i think the problem was, like u said, how she said her lines... but idk if it was her decision to say them that way or if chris weitz wanted her to say them that way. so im not going to put the blame on kristen. i still LOVD it tho=)

I have watched the Break-up scene many times & I am sure that this is not going to be a popular view but I LOVE IT. It was well acted & very accurate to the book. Kristen's portrayal of Bella in this scene was dead on. Bella didn't cry in the book. She didn't break down. She only did that after a week when she was threatened with having to leave Forks.
Kristen and Rob nailed it. Chris Weitz did a fabulous job. This is what you get with a great director & good actors. A Quality movie scene.
i love when rob says "I DON'T WANT YOU TO COME" and "NO" he says it with such conviction and you can tell that he's hurting inside saying that..lik it says edward is in midnight sun....he is such a good actor and i think this scene really shows how amazing he is and that its not just because he's edward that people love him but its because he really is a phenomenol actor!! im really disappointed with kristen stewarts performance..as always

Kristen did great too. It's called being in shock. You don't automatically started crying like a maniac. It's like someone punched her in the gut. Rob was great too, but then again people don't really care about his performance they would say he did great if he just blinked a few times.
Also in the book, Bella says to herself that she is extremely surprised at how calm she feels despite Edward breaking up with her. There was no major emotional reaction, no tears, no major begging, etc. They obviously cut out some stuff for the film (she doesn't run off searching for him but instead just trips and collapses after a couple of steps after he leaves). I think it's really well done, especially Rob. He nailed this scene. Especially when he says he doesn't want her to go with him.
I fucking LOVE Kristen Stewart....and I am a normal 30 year old straight married woman....but I may or may not be drunk. But my husband loves her too (and we're both movie/actor snobs). She is seriously the most talented actress of her generation (Rob said it himself, and Rob speaks the Gospel, people!)....Amen.
Let me first say: I'm a HUGE Kristen fan. I think maybe she was supposed to be kind of numb or in shock for the scene, like it hasn't registered yet. She doesn't yet understand fully what's happening so the crying/depression hasn't hit yet. Don't judge 'till the movie comes out 'cause Kristen's a BADASS. Though i do get what you mean, i feel like it should be more dramatic, but in the book, if you really read it, it is EXACTLY the same as they've portrayed it on screen. Kristen doesnt "overact" and go over the top as bella wouldnt.You can just see what shes going through in her eyes and mannerisms.

You could tell in the kiss that he still loves her. I loved the scene.
In the book she didnt cry, she was more pained and devestated. Which is exactly what she portrayed. Which was perfect in my opinion. If you read/understood the book you would know she was like balling and such...i could see the pain in her eyes/voice. Rob also did amazing. They have definitely both grown a lot since the first movie.
Rob cares so much more about this than Kristen. And the thing is, we're supposed to live vicariously through Bella, not Edward. The book is centered around Bella, not Edward. So Kristen needs to care more than anyone about this. She is the center of Twilight, but I don't think she really tries.
Agreed. Rob was great, you could see the pain that Edward was going through, and hear it in his voice. Kristen, not so much. I didn't get where she was coming from. Even if she didn't say much you should have been able to see her pain and confusion on her face and in her mannerisms. She didn't act like a girl who was being dumped by the love of her life, and someone who told her that she "was his life".
Kristen is spot on as Stephanie's Bella. In the book, she didn't cry. She was in such shock and morbin pain that she didn't react until he was actually gone and it became reality. I totally agree with what you said about Rob. Rob found Edward. I loved him in Twilight. But, this is even beyond my expectations in Rob. Rob - Awesome job! You made me hurt down in my gut.
Having only read the books once, I forgot exactly how this scene went in the book. I just re-read how it happened and this is actually very accurate. Yes, some dialogue is cut out due to time but Bella never cries, she tries to steady her breathing, and she is in a complete numbing stupor. So, this is pretty much how Stephanie wrote this scene in the book... except for a things cut out to shorten it for the film. So, having re-read the scene in the book and compared it, it's quite spot on.

I thought, after Twilight, that Kristen wasn't that good at playing 'in love' and I expected she'd be much better at doing 'depressed/heartbroken' and I think she did actually. I now believe she can act. I get where you're coming from about how she should be MORE devastated but also, of course the pain is more raw in the book because the book is from Bella's P.O.V. but the film has to incorporate how everyone feels so they had to almost downplay her grief at the loss of eternal love to a degree.
How else can you react in this scene? She was devastated and you could see that...you could see the pain on her face. And the "You don't want me line" was the best, in my opinion. She delivered it right like "You don't..want me" lol she went all quiet when she realised what she said. So, i dunno i thought she did an awesome job...much better than Twilight!!! Bella in the book didn't put up much of a fight when Edward left..Kristen brings a much stronger Bella =)

Her breathing, I honestly don't see a problem with it for this scene 'cause when I saw it and read the book I thought of Bella doing something like that to hold back from crying.

I actually agree with you completely. I'm the girl on the left (Cristina Marie -- my channel) and I don't recall being insanely judgmental on kristen. I have been acting my entire life up until I began college, so I have a bit of a frame of reference. But I also understand that screen acting and stage acting are entirely different things. Which diminishes my reference a little. But I LOVE Kristen, and I know that not all of us can be pleased. She did her best, and that's all I can ask for

Look guys. when your watching the whole movie. you get totally sucked into it, you'll feel it more. i do think it should have been more dramatic and i dont think it should have been in the script that bella says : look if this is about my soul, you can have it. - that kind of ruined it for me.
You have to understand though.that what the actors do,is what the director and the script tells them to do.
But before we crap on Kstew again. lets just wait for the movie and see if we can feel it then

First of all Kristen is an actress, an actress. Okay. She doesn't need to have experienced a break up to be able to act it out. If you dont believe she prepared herself enough for this scene, like she mentioned to EW. Well then that is YOUR OPINION. Dont generalize your thoughts as being the only truth and say that she shows no emotion whatsoever, that is completely false. She worries to much to please the twihards like yourself. When she shouldn't even have to care about it.

I think they played out this sceen perfect. So far it is so close to the book, a lot more then Twilight was. Rob was perfect in it, so cold it broke my heart. Kristen is not a diverse actress, all of her roles are the same. That being said I think it was played out well and left me heart broken!

Confused about what! You wanted the films to be true to the books; well you got it but you're still not happy. Below is a quote from Stephanie M. about her inspiration for the break-up scene; I thnk Chris got it right.
"It really got me in the zone for writing about a person who is horribly depressed and yet not at all showing it. She's not wearing black and refusing to come out of her room and yelling at the people she loves. She is completely containing it inside herself."

i think chris weitz stayed extremely true to the book with this scene and i loved it so much!!! i DO think that rob did a better job than kristen. i know she was trying so hard to pull it off. her expressions were good. in the book bella is supposed to be very numb. i think the problem was, like u said, how she said her lines... but idk if it was her decision to say them that way or if chris weitz wanted her to say them that way. so im not going to put the blame on kristen. i still LOVD it tho=)

i think Kristen did a good job. Bella doesn't really say much and is numb in the book. No Matter what the books are always gonna be better than the movies. we should look at the movies as a visual companion to the books!!!

I have watched the Break-up scene many times & I am sure that this is not going to be a popular view but I LOVE IT. It was well acted & very accurate to the book. Kristen's portrayal of Bella in this scene was dead on. Bella didn't cry in the book. She didn't break down. She only did that after a week when she was threatened with having to leave Forks.
Kristen and Rob nailed it. Chris Weitz did a fabulous job. This is what you get with a great director & good actors. A Quality movie scene.

i love when rob says "I DON'T WANT YOU TO COME" and "NO" he says it with such conviction and you can tell that he's hurting inside saying that..lik it says edward is in midnight sun....he is such a good actor and i think this scene really shows how amazing he is and that its not just because he's edward that people love him but its because he really is a phenomenol actor!! im really disappointed with kristen stewarts performance..as always

Kristen did great too. It's called being in shock. You don't automatically started crying like a maniac. It's like someone punched her in the gut. Rob was great too, but then again people don't really care about his performance they would say he did great if he just blinked a few times.

I was a bit surprised when he said "I mean my family and myself" faster than I thought he would.
But the lines, "I DON'T WANT YOU TO COME" and "NO" matched with the expressionless face were PERFECTLY delivered:)

Also in the book, Bella says to herself that she is extremely surprised at how calm she feels despite Edward breaking up with her. There was no major emotional reaction, no tears, no major begging, etc. They obviously cut out some stuff for the film (she doesn't run off searching for him but instead just trips and collapses after a couple of steps after he leaves). I think it's really well done, especially Rob. He nailed this scene. Especially when he says he doesn't want her to go with him.

I fucking LOVE Kristen Stewart....and I am a normal 30 year old straight married woman....but I may or may not be drunk. But my husband loves her too (and we're both movie/actor snobs). She is seriously the most talented actress of her generation (Rob said it himself, and Rob speaks the Gospel, people!)....Amen.

Let me first say: I'm a HUGE Kristen fan. I think maybe she was supposed to be kind of numb or in shock for the scene, like it hasn't registered yet. She doesn't yet understand fully what's happening so the crying/depression hasn't hit yet. Don't judge 'till the movie comes out 'cause Kristen's a BADASS. Otherwise your reaction vid is great!.....oh yeah, and it must be said....Rob is AWESOME in this scene.

like many of the commentor's below, i disagree with your opinion about kristen's portrayal of bella in this scene. Though i do get what you mean, i feel like it should be more dramatic, but in the book, if you really read it, it is EXACTLY the same as they've portrayed it on screen. Kristen doesnt "overact" and go over the top as bella wouldnt.You can just see what shes going through in her eyes and mannerisms.
maybe it will seem more dramatic in the context of the entire movie

I love the scene. I thought Kristen did good.How else was she supposed to act? It said in the book that Bella didn't cry or fall apart because she was just in shockand that's basically how Kristen acted. And Rob..oh, Rob. He did so amazing. I loved his detachment and indifference towards the situation, yet you can still tell he's struggling inside. And the kiss! I totally agree with you guys on that. It was so heartbreaking. You could tell in the kiss that he still loves her. I loved the scene.

In the book she didnt cry, she was more pained and devestated. Which is exactly what she portrayed. Which was perfect in my opinion. If you read/understood the book you would know she was like balling and such...i could see the pain in her eyes/voice. Rob also did amazing. They have definitely both grown a lot since the first movie.

Rob cares so much more about this than Kristen. And the thing is, we're supposed to live vicariously through Bella, not Edward. The book is centered around Bella, not Edward. So Kristen needs to care more than anyone about this. She is the center of Twilight, but I don't think she really tries.

Agreed. Rob was great, you could see the pain that Edward was going through, and hear it in his voice. Kristen, not so much. I didn't get where she was coming from. Even if she didn't say much you should have been able to see her pain and confusion on her face and in her mannerisms. She didn't act like a girl who was being dumped by the love of her life, and someone who told her that she "was his life".

Kristen is spot on as Stephanie's Bella. In the book, she didn't cry. She was in such shock and morbin pain that she didn't react until he was actually gone and it became reality. I totally agree with what you said about Rob. Rob found Edward. I loved him in Twilight. But, this is even beyond my expectations in Rob. Rob - Awesome job! You made me hurt down in my gut.

Having only read the books once, I forgot exactly how this scene went in the book. I just re-read how it happened and this is actually very accurate. Yes, some dialogue is cut out due to time but Bella never cries, she tries to steady her breathing, and she is in a complete numbing stupor. So, this is pretty much how Stephanie wrote this scene in the book... except for a things cut out to shorten it for the film. So, having re-read the scene in the book and compared it, it's quite spot on.

omg what did you expect a soap opera krisbella clinging to robward's foot cmon'. honestly when i saw this scene i cried because it reminded me of when i was broken up to by the love of my life who i tought loved me too and when we broke up i felt exactly like bella numb and in shock cuz i did not expect it at all then after i realized what happend i cried hysterically so stop bashing kristen remember bella did not cry for weeks in the book even charlie worried

I thought, after Twilight, that Kristen wasn't that good at playing 'in love' and I expected she'd be much better at doing 'depressed/heartbroken' and I think she did actually. I now believe she can act. I get where you're coming from about how she should be MORE devastated but also, of course the pain is more raw in the book because the book is from Bella's P.O.V. but the film has to incorporate how everyone feels so they had to almost downplay her grief at the loss of eternal love to a degree.

How else can you react in this scene? She was devastated and you could see that...you could see the pain on her face. And the "You don't want me line" was the best, in my opinion. She delivered it right like "You don't..want me" lol she went all quiet when she realised what she said. So, i dunno i thought she did an awesome job...much better than Twilight!!! Bella in the book didn't put up much of a fight when Edward left..Kristen brings a much stronger Bella =)

Her breathing, I honestly don't see a problem with it for this scene 'cause when I saw it and read the book I thought of Bella doing something like that to hold back from crying.
