I used to own a Kenwood R-5000 back in the late 1980's and early 90's. Good receiver. The only thing I did not like was the lack of good bass and fuller and higher Fidelity sound, etc for listening to shortwave broadcasting stations or AM dx'ing compared to my old Grundig Satellit 500 and Satellit 800 receivers, but, but, overall, the R-5000 had good selectivity and is ideal for communication monitoring such as amateur radio, data communications, RTTY, PSK-31, CW, etc.
I have an R-5000 to go along with my 440, 660,670,711,811, etc.. (shack looks like an 80's Kenwood Add Brochure !) I was planning on selling the R-5000..(still looking for a VHF Mod.).. but Dad just had a Stroke.. so I think I will set it up at his QTH.. get him into 'Ham Radio' finally.. I hope ! Nice Video..
It's a beauty...must be great for ham listening. The VHF addition would be a huge plus for me too. I would like for these comms receivers to include FM broadcast band though.

I have one of these receivers. The radio has good audio. They like to overheat.

A truly great affordable radio. I have the VC-20, but venture into VHF rarely. A good demo, 5*.

A really nice looking radio.I like the idea of having VHF as well.I presume the flickering display is a camera effect and does not happen for real
