y do so many teams now copy this chant im not a marshall fan but its pretty dumb for others to take this chant

The phrase "WE Are Marshall" actually began when Marshall had their first winning season in 1984, and the success they achieved after that.

That scene on the plane just before it crashed, the coach. "We are," and the team followed with "Marshall." So it seemed to be something that was tied to the football team. Maybe you could write to the athletic department at Marshall U and ask them.

Can anyone tell me when the phrase "We are Marshall" started being used? I was 14 yrs old then but I remember the horrible incident. I don't recall that phrase being used until years later. Very good movie I might add.
