That's fair enough. But here's where I have a come to a logical and thought out problem with not believing in God:
I don't see how the universe could just "have come into existence" without a creator.Who triggered the Big Bang?What was there before it?
I also reject the idea of a the universe always exisitng without a God.
For me, it's easier to believe that a supreme being created everything, than that it just happened out of absolute nothingness (a concept we dont even understand)
My personal belief is that God has always existed, and created the universe.
Having reflected upon the God question thoroughly, I have come to the conclusion that to believe in God takes a massive leap of faith, but to not believe in God takes a similar leap of faith.
Neither possibility can be scientifically/logically explained, and indeed both possibilities go against everything we know to be fact.
So, that's why I choose to believe that there's a being that transcends logic.
Effectively, the "there is a God" group make marginally more sense, because they're admitting that what they say cannot be verified and is illogical, but God's power doesn't make sense to us.
The atheistic group have no "Get out of jail" card - their ideas make no sense but there's no omnipotent being around who doesn't need to make sense.

I see where your coming from, but that just transfers the problem from "How did the universe come to be?" to "How dud God come to be?".
It just leads to more problems. Such as:
How did God come into existance?

Did God come into being at the moment he created the universe, and if so, how and from where?

My personal belief is that God has always existed, and created the universe.
Having reflected upon the God question thoroughly, I have come to the conclusion that to believe in God takes a massive leap of faith, but to not believe in God takes a similar leap of faith.
Neither possibility can be scientifically/logically explained, and indeed both possibilities go against everything we know to be fact.
So, that's why I choose to believe that there's a being that transcends logic.

Effectively, the "there is a God" group make marginally more sense, because they're admitting that what they say cannot be verified and is illogical, but God's power doesn't make sense to us.
The atheistic group have no "Get out of jail" card - their ideas make no sense but there's no omnipotent being around who doesn't need to make sense.

@MAS4T0 yeah. it takes alot of faith but God didnt just " come to be" he was the first thing and i know me telling you this probably wont help but maybe if you just give God a chance and try to pray to him maybe he can help you find your answers.

I'm not trying to argue against the existence of a God, but rather pointing out that religion does not have all the answers either. Whereas science searches for definitive answers, religion answers those questions, but inexorably leads to more questions (questions that cannot be answered).
If he has always existed, what was he doing before he created the world?

thats like saying having kids would just make "an endless amount of work for no good reason". i sincerely hope you don't have children if thats how you see it. wanting to love someone that looks like you and is a part of you doesn't require philospohical consideration - why do people want to love? because its the most amazing thing in the world. i don't have children, but i certainly know that people who do, need them; loss of a child is man's greatest greif, and thats how God feels about us

Wow, that's a pretty big leap...
If you want to use the relationship between children and parents as a metaphor for the relationship between man and God then go ahead. The difference is though that parents raise their children. I will always be there for my children, God on the other hand (if such an entity exists) is merely watching from a great distance.
God supposedly tested many of his "children", the most well known of which was Moses. That is no way to treat a child.

@MAS4T0 how can you say God is just "watching from a great distance" when God is, by common consent, easily capable of being a part of every aspect of our lives - how could you possibly know how involved He is in your life? you couldn't determine that any more than you could determine the first thing.
do you not discipline and rebuke your children? God is obviously going to do things on a bigger scale than humans, but the analogy remains valid.

God does not discipline people, Christianity is a religion of forgiveness. Jews believe in retribution, Christians do not. God does not punish his followers, he offers forgiveness.
Also notice that it is God's most loyal followers who are treated most harshly. Moses was commanded to kill his own son! I would not be harsh to a child for doing exactly as he was told!
Also notice that in early scripture, humans were repeatedly used as pawns by both God and Satan.

ok first of all - "Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline" - Jesus Christ, Revelation 3:19. you forgive your kids for being bad but that doesn't mean you don't correct them. secondly, you're thinking of abraham, not moses, and if you had any idea what you were talking about, you would know that God stopped abraham from killing isaac at the last second; God was testing abraham's love for Him. you should consider educating yourself before displaying your ignorance on youtube comments

I am not Christian. I would not expect you to know anything about religions other than your own. Were this discussion about Buddhism or Islam it would be petty for me to pick you up on any small details.
Of course I know that he didn't have him follow through, but that is beside the point, he still (apparently) put his disciple through a great amount of pain.
You really don't see what I'm getting at do you? God apparently rebukes his most loyal followers, the ones who do as he commands...

@MAS4T0 those weren't small details dude you mixed up two major figures in the Bible, got the story you were using as a case against the Bible completely wrong, and overlooked the pinnacle of Judeo-Christian philiosopohy. the first step to becoming a Christian is admitting you are a flawed person with sins that need to be atoned. God put through Abraham through trepidation, but that was because he had a specific purpose for it. again, if had any idea what you were talking about . . .

If God created everything, God created evil. If we are flawed (and God created us) then it is because he made us that way. Why should be seek atonement for something which he is responsible for?
There is also the obvious contradiction between the teachings of the old and new testaments, so either the old testament prophets were false or Jesus was a heretic.

@MAS4T0 the rift between the Christians and the Jews is that Jews don't believe Jesus was the Messiah! A Christian is literally a Jew who believes in Jesus, that's it. There are people who believe the Holocaust didn't happen, but that doesn't make it true, so Jews not believing in Jesus doesn't mean they're right.

I think you might be taking biases on demand and work. What about the artist that creates his masterpiece. If you see God, as the artist, then can we not be his masterpiece? Not in the sense that we are perfect, but more-so how we are designed beautifully: our bodies, our interactions. Work in that sense is pleasing, more-so satisfying, it is not a bad action, only the lazy condone it. Admirable people, I find, are the ones that worked hard. God defines hard-work

I see where you are coming from, but God (apparently) did not just create us. He is (supposedly) watching over us, guiding us and assisting us with our daily lives.
The analogy with an artist works well, but only up to a certain point. When an artist has completed a masterpiece, he does not spend the remainder of his life making alterations to it and admiring his work. In time, that would become tedious.
The artist invariably moves on and creates new works.

God created everything, each thing possessing a little bit of his glory, and humans are the most part of his glory (hence, why it says in Genesis that God created mankind in his likeness.) God didnt want autonomous people worshipping Him because there is no love there.

Proponents of Christianity do not believe that any other religion is correct. Therefore, if mankind could create so many other religions, many of which have some striking similarities to Christianity, then what is it about Christianity that makes it so special and unique that man couldn't have created it.
Desperate people turn to religion, many people need God, so why is it imperceivable that man could have created him?
