  • looks like this guy didn't even bother to realize that GNU does not equal GPL.

  • GPL***

  • Nice info, but: It's not always free to download (wikipedia: Commercial open source applications), it's not always a community developing it (Android), and it's not always a community the ones giving tech support, you can get say a tech support service from vendors like Redhat.

  • Wait, you CAN build off of Linux and sell it. I heard Linus say so. And Linux is oss, so I guess in this case, he's wrong.

  • GNU = Gnu's Not Unix its a recursive term that was Supposted to the name of the first Free and open source OS but a guy named Linus Torvald Build a better Kernal called Linux so they decided to use that instead thus creating the GNU/Linux operating system which people built off of and redistributed in forms such as Ubuntu and Fedora.

the GNU GPL (which i think is what you were looking for) is the software license agreement developed by Richard Stallman in order to make his Free OS work

  • "part of a licensing agreement called a GNU". What?!? I like most of these videos, but just about everything in this video is dead wrong.

"You can't change it then sell it" - Wrong. Only if GPL/copyleft you must make the code available.

"OSS doesn't have the technical support of commercial grade software" - Wrong. Ever hear of a little company called Red Hat? Even Cisco makes money supporting opens source. In practice it's even harder to get directly in touch with commercial developers.

  • During the CCNP class the instructor made a comment to us the students about the issue, he commented that in general, Windows is not the best choice for networks. We asked him why, and he responded, because of the many broadcasts, there are many windows apps which produce broadcasts, especially multimedia, so these consume bandwidth. He left an "open" think for us that Linux would be a much better choice (for LAN PCs)....well I can say for sure, but I will ask the Linux community about....
