I voted yes on 8 to protect traditional families (Foster homes being sued for not adopting to gay parents), religious freedom (churches being sued for not performing gay wedding ceremonies, doctors being sued for not performing artificial insemination on lesbians, and 8 year old kids in public schools being forced to learn that they can choose whether to go for a man or woman.
I went to a lesbian wedding ceremony in SF a few months ago - it was no different at all, EXCEPT for the TERM marriage
Gavin is an idiot but it's really sad to see you bigots project your false outrage over his publicity hounding like it's really your excuse for passing prop 8. You passed prop 8 because you are bigots that hate gays. Luckily the constitution predicted that the country would mostly be populated by idiots and gave judges the power to protect an innocent minority, whether you like it or not.
@brosephjames What exactly are the judges protecting them from? Gays and Lesbians already have EQUAL RIGHTS in California.
You blindly pointing the bigot finger at anyone who backed prop 8, without regard to their thoughts and feelings for doing so is the definition of bigotry.
I will agree with you though that "Any-Twosome" Newsome is an idiot, and I laughed my ass off when he was the unwitting star of the Yes On 8 TV ad.
Thanks Gavin...YOUR bigotry really helped the majority!
@slonights i'm talking about the people who pretend that gavin's idiotic comments are why they voted yes on prop8. that's not why they voted yes on 8, it's just a sad excuse for their underlying bigotry. If you don't want to be labeled a bigot don't do bigoted things. It's not a permanent label, people can change.
@brosephjames Well I can tell you that personally Gavin's gloating comments DID affect my decision to vote yes on 8, so your argument is invalid - he spat in the face of 10 million Californian prop 22 voters, and his terminology gave an underlying label to his movement, which helped many people put things in perspective. Gay couples ALREADY have equal rights in California!
That's the problem with you people...unwilling to compromise. You can't hide behind your bigot finger any longer.
@slonights YOure all a bunch of sodom and gamorrah-ites. The almighty thumb will be rubbing you all out soon to make room for me and my normal straight friends.
@themarshall65 "YOure all a bunch of sodom and gamorrah-ites. The almighty thumb will be rubbing you all out soon to make room for me and my normal straight friends."
you know, I wonder something. Just a question for all you straight folks here...
Ever since you were born, u were attracted to the opposite sex. What if some bible, or politician, or whoever told you that what you felt wasn't right, and couldn't legalize it? How would that make you feel. I wonder. How would you feel if everyone else could get married and build a life.... execpt you because you liked someone you weren't supposed to..... I bet no 'straightie' ever thinks about that huh!!!!!
Make love to all the same-sex partners that you want, or even just stick with one if you love that person, but leave marriage out of it. If I want to pull my son out of a sex-ed class that teaches eight year old boys how to enjoy anal sex with other boys, then I shouldn't be harrassed or arrested for it. unfortunatley, the case is such as of late. Do as you wish with your own private life, but if your actions infringe on the liberties of others, then maybe you dont belong in America.
people should be ashamed who are in favor of prop 8!!!! You are all telling my beautiful son, that our family isn't real, and that God hates him, and his two dads.
After dropping out of the Governor's race, Newsom disappeared to Hawaii without telling any of his staff. Voters are furious. He's revealed himself to be a spoiled, petulant Narcissistic brat.
Let's see. Productive, tax-paying members of society, suddenly told that they are somehow lesser than the rest of the citizens, their love is less important, and they are still considered un-equal. Separate but equal second-class citizenry. It's criminal and unconstitutional.
SO, an elected official is not allowed to speak publicly (and earnestly) about his views on a topic, huh? That's weird. Thought that was part of the gig.
@nekkidandrew First, you are implying that homosexuals are somehow more "productive" than the rest of us, and that paying taxes gives one unlimited marriage rights. It doesn't do that. Paying taxes simply gives you the right to monetary entitlements, such as unemployment benefits and the right NOT to get in trouble for tax evasion.
And just in case, please don't compare marriage to social security payments or something, because that would be wrong.
@Nonamearisto I don't think I ever implied that homosexuals are "more productive" than anybody else. I did, however, imply that homosexuals are certainly not less productive than us heteros. My point being that you can't set aside and then brand with a stigma a particular group as deserving of discrimination.
And say what you will, but I believe that paying taxes gives one the right to be a part of American society, which includes the tradition of marriage.
@nekkidandrew Tell that last part to the Mormons. We fought a WAR against them to end their practice of polygamy, then made them pay taxes when they were incorporated into the rest of the states.
@themarshall65, always nice to see someone insulting me without citing any actual basis for the name-calling. I would say your comment was worthless, except I DID get a hearty chuckle out of seeing a guy that can't spell call me an idiot.
@themarshall65 Well, I was thinking more along the lines of your assertion that I just spew "psyco babble" all the time. Either way, I'm not typically one to nitpick on spelling - just when someone illiterate refers to ME as a moron. Again - I hear no basis or context for you accusing me, so I'll stick with watching you misspell your insults until you decide to take a shot at justifying them.
Yes. It is of utmost importance to vote in favor of a hateful and shameful proposition that negatively affects and dehumanizes a minority, simply to flip the bird at an overeager supporter.
It is obvious by the "cocksucker" comment from williamsob. and the fag comments by others that this is still an issue of hate and not what is best for all people. If the majority was able to vote on the rights of a minority then African Americans would not have the equal rights they have today. Inequality is un American. By the way, God does not hate, people hate.
As a small-l libertarian and fellow opponent of overreaching politicians, willaimsobieski, I still believe you're overthinking this. If your argument is valid, then all I have to do as an opponent of a good cause is to get myself in a position of power and speak out loudly in favor of it.
Voting against equality because some politician spoke too stridently in its favor doesn't make sense.
willaimsobieski: Agreed, it was tactless, and it may have set back the cause of equal marriage rights by a few years. (Only a few, because the words he spoke remain correct, if one cares to examine the demographic trends.)
I sense that principle is important to you. It's important to me as well, but I also have loved ones who are directly harmed by Prop. 8, and that frankly matters to me more than does one politician shooting his mouth off more than he should.
tHE LAW IS NOT EQUAL TO EVERYONE IF THAT IS SO THEN WHY DIDN'T WE VOTE ON NON-SAME SEX MARRIAGES AND BESIDES YOU DONT HAVE TO BE GAY TO VOTE NO ON 8 I AM STRAIGHT AND I VOTE NO ON 8....WELL AS SOON AS I CAN VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Um...at least 4 other states have legalized gay marriages since this whole thing. Who REALLY wins? Gays could care less if CA has it, they can go to another state and get married. Thats the whole point. Retard.
Yeah? And was there a REFERENDUM in all these states??? Tough question, huh? Apparently, when it is left to the people they show exactly how they feel about such absurdities.
When few wannabe dictators decide that gay marriage is legal, without public approval, it is the worst example of bureaucratic tyranny .
Few wannabe dictators? Nowhere in the constitution does it say marriage is between man and woman only, thats the point. Just because California is turning in to a backwards state, other states are changing, they did their job.
Well, you cannot misuse the fact that those that had written the words "two people" could not possibly have known that anyone ever would consider a marriage between two guys. So, they failed, yes, but they certainly didn't intend to leave this open to abuse. Basically, what you are doing, is using the lack of precise definition, which you know darn well had nothing to do with someone's vision of future gay marriages.
Yes, it should! It's a to important issue to be left to few individuals! Judges? Who cares? They arn't gods... democracy is a tricky thing, sure it can't just be a matter of predominant opinions, because then we could say segregation was "democratic" as (we can be certain of that) in those days at least 70% of Southerners approved it. However, this is different! Marriage is something that pertains all people, and many feel that the institution itself would be
An I snobbish if I believe in traditional values? "Down to Earth"... why am I not ? Well I did meet a few gay people, I don't know anyone well tough. It didn't bother me , but in your face effeminate behavior and thois "gay" image and culture always bothered me more than the fact that he is sleeping with men. Even if I had known hundreds of gay people I would stiil think the same, if my best friend turned out to be gay I'd think the same.
In your face behavior? Such as what? Wanting the same freedoms as every U.S. Citizen? Heh, you're just an ignorant a-hole, the fact that any other "culture" bothers you shows it. Maybe if you were educated...too much to ask of you though. Cya, enjoy your bigotry.
This is the point where gays have it sooo wrong. No one is discriminating against gays. Every gay person in this country is permitted to marry. EVERY ONE of them. They just can't marry people of the same sex. There is no descrimination there at all. Heteros cannot marry the same sex either. Where is the descrimination? The law is equal to everyone.
it only passed thanks to the sleaziest campaign I have ever seen in my lifetime. Undecided people who didn't care voted against it to "save the children!" The plea of every campaign that hasn't a leg to stand on. You bigots will eventually lose, hopefully tomorrow... but even if it takes longer, the gap is narrowing. The older population is dying off by the day and eventually, this little slice of equality will be enjoyed by the masses!
You had a sleazy campaign of your own! How come it was wrong for mormons to donate money for prop 8, and some quasi-humanitarian white trash like Angelina Jolie could doante hundreds of thousands and be regarded as "hero".
because defending the rights of American citizens is indeed heroic, unlike those christian swine who will try and discriminate because their sky daddy thinks it's icky. Overlooking several other rules laid out in those very pages because THOSE ones are outdated, however it's convenient to pay attention to that single issue because they just like to justify oppressing people that make them feel uncomfortable. Your vile grip on our government won't hold forever, people will wise up eventually.
The good news is that after hearing the pros and cons concering gay marriage, the legal scholars believe that Yes on 8 will be upheld! Looks like the California Supreme court just might get it right after all. Yes on 8 is gonna be upheld. Whether you like it or not! As California goes, so goes the nation!
I wasn't trying to accomplish anything when editing this clip. It was just a funny clip, and I thought that repeating it over and over (with slo mo and effects) would add to the hilarity.
I'm glad you liked the "applause of Homosexuals" caption, I don't think everyone in the audience was gay, but I thought it would be funny to add.
The whole situation was ridiculous, and I wanted to make a video that reflected this.
Exactly in addition the Californians said fuck you to those damn activist judges who shouldnt have over turned the previous ban that the voters approved. And that douchebag Gavin Newsom will never be Governor of California because most Californians recognize him as the weather you like it or not mayor of San Fransisco. Fuck him and all the ultra liberals out there who are creating not California but the whole USA into the new Sodom and Gomorrah.
If you want to be a sick pervert and stick your pole in another man, then that is your choice, but don't even try to defile the meaning of Marriage with your perverted ways! Gavin Newsome is a complete piece of crap! Gavin Newsome has no respect for Marriage as he has totally proven himself. King of the Butt Pirates!!!!!!
every person in the united states should have the same rights who is anyone to say i deserve something that this person doesnt get the fuck outta here i aint gay but i dont give a shit if anyone else is if your agianst prop 8 your gay yourself or homophobe that shit wont effect you either way and dont say there gonna teach it schools cuase u know damn well they dont teach marrige in school never have never will let god judge people when its time
Ya your right everyone deserves equal rights. I guess next we should give criminals the same rights as well. And while we are at we can give people the right to marry animals, its all about love right? Who are we to say that people and animals can't love each other? As long as it isn't taught to our children right? The future implications of No on 8 reasoning scares me.
it sounds like you guys want a strict majority rules syle of government with no balances on the laws you can have passed. The judicial branch is there to balance the power. they are to make sure oppression and unconstitutional laws get struck down. you guys dont like it when it works against you lol. if you want it overturned, you can have it but you will destroy the constitutional of the founding fathers with it.
This was predicted that Gavin Newsome could not provide the votes to carry a NO vote on this issue. I feel so sorry for those who put faith in Newsome rather than other supporters of Prop 8. Newsome should apologize to everyone for his lack of ability to get this opposed. Keep fighting the good fight but not with Newsome.
This guy is seriously one of the most biggest pieces of shit that holds any sort office...Let's not forget that he deemed San Fran as a sanctuary city! Next an illegal that he protecected killed an innocent man and his two children...This man and his children were law abading tax paying, American citizens of the US. Fucking, RicockUlous...Down with Newson!
Gavin Newsom set the gay community back 25-50 years with that pompous speech. A revision of the state constitution requires 2/3 vote from both houses of the state legislature. With prop 11 passing, redistricting reforms will introduce more GOP and harder fights for Democrats. If Gavin had phoned Jack O'Connel and told him to ban gay marriage instruction in public school, none of this would've happened. Thanks Gavin.
People who think religion is 100% to blame for this Proposition's success are ignorant and hypocritical. Do you really think ALL of the religious vote represented 52% of the majority?? Facts are that there are actually those who are not religious that believe in traditional marriage. Get off the religious bashing. It is racist and hypocritical. The truth is California is not ready. The voices spoke in 2000 and have spoken again in 2008.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
What are you trying to prove in this video?
It's still going to happen whether you like it or not, although it may take more time. Religion is dying and people are realizing it just causes more hate than love. Religion wont always be a huge factor in votes like this.
That's the only reason it got passed and you know it, if there was no bible it would have passed so quick.
LOL it wasn't a huge factor this time around. They got in on the action, but the fact is no on 8's rush to judgment on those who disagree did them in. People aren't going to support your cause if you're quick to call their beliefs stupid.
I don't know when liberals forgot tolerance applies to people they don't like and don't agree with as it does with people they do agree with, but they need to try and remember that. For now, traditional marriage FTW
It's hard to be tolerant when you are voting to TAKE AWAY RIGHTS especially in a really snarky know it all goody goody way. You guys act like we're the problem here, but really you guys are the problem. You're using a book with old morals to support your ideas, and when you look at the facts that nothing bad will happen, you ignore them and continue being ignorant.
You can't generalize that all gays are against religion just because of me, I have strong feelings towards my atheism.
The court's decision was an egregious example of activist judges making sweeping policy decisions with vast societal implications. Policymaking decisions of this kind are broadly political, not narrowly judicial, and should be made through the lawmaking process in a way that reflects settled public opinion, informed by long-established traditions and the principles of social order.
There was no "right". The court invented it... and rightly got overturned by the people.
I think you are confusing the court that ruled on this case with the Supreme Court of the US. It was the California Supreme Court that made this ruling. These judges were not appointed by Bush and Reagan, they are appointed by the Gov of Calif. Not that it matters who appoints them anyhow. A activist judge is undesirable no matter who appoints them.
Ok first I have to say that I have been bursting into tears all morning. That being said I want to thank all the people who stood on the side of equal rights and equality. I worked the phone banks and the corners protesting and educating all the way up to and on election day. We stood as a family at our polling place holding No on 8 sighns. I want to thank the young college students that stood with us This was not only a defeat for gay and lesbians but a defeat for all of our familys
no we did not like it MOTHERFUCKER!

elendil77 2 years ago
Actually, your reply has nothing to do with my comment! None whatsoever! That only shows your lack of arguments.
elendil77 2 years ago

The law is equal to everyone.
alexovie 2 years ago 2
Alexovie, you have quite possibly the stupidest argument I have ever heard. Seriously, beyond ignorant lol.
zimerust 2 years ago
it only passed thanks to the sleaziest campaign I have ever seen in my lifetime. Undecided people who didn't care voted against it to "save the children!" The plea of every campaign that hasn't a leg to stand on. You bigots will eventually lose, hopefully tomorrow... but even if it takes longer, the gap is narrowing. The older population is dying off by the day and eventually, this little slice of equality will be enjoyed by the masses!
effimtired 2 years ago
You had a sleazy campaign of your own! How come it was wrong for mormons to donate money for prop 8, and some quasi-humanitarian white trash like Angelina Jolie could doante hundreds of thousands and be regarded as "hero".
elendil77 2 years ago 2
because defending the rights of American citizens is indeed heroic, unlike those christian swine who will try and discriminate because their sky daddy thinks it's icky. Overlooking several other rules laid out in those very pages because THOSE ones are outdated, however it's convenient to pay attention to that single issue because they just like to justify oppressing people that make them feel uncomfortable. Your vile grip on our government won't hold forever, people will wise up eventually.

He looks like Christian Bale wonder if he went off like him when they didn't pass the gayness he wanted.

Gavin Newsome is HOT!
by the way... I have no idea what you trying to accomplish when editing that short clip
I love how it says "applause of Homosexuals"... Like everyone of those people in the audience where gay... LOL
eroticbuddhaART 3 years ago
I wasn't trying to accomplish anything when editing this clip. It was just a funny clip, and I thought that repeating it over and over (with slo mo and effects) would add to the hilarity.
I'm glad you liked the "applause of Homosexuals" caption, I don't think everyone in the audience was gay, but I thought it would be funny to add.
The whole situation was ridiculous, and I wanted to make a video that reflected this.

When Gavin sneered at the voters, the voters sneered back louder with Prop 8.

Damn skippy. What an arrogant piece of shit that guy is.
jareds2009 3 years ago
Exactly in addition the Californians said fuck you to those damn activist judges who shouldnt have over turned the previous ban that the voters approved. And that douchebag Gavin Newsom will never be Governor of California because most Californians recognize him as the weather you like it or not mayor of San Fransisco. Fuck him and all the ultra liberals out there who are creating not California but the whole USA into the new Sodom and Gomorrah.

every person in the united states should have the same rights who is anyone to say i deserve something that this person doesnt get the fuck outta here i aint gay but i dont give a shit if anyone else is if your agianst prop 8 your gay yourself or homophobe that shit wont effect you either way and dont say there gonna teach it schools cuase u know damn well they dont teach marrige in school never have never will let god judge people when its time
luketic24 3 years ago
Ya your right everyone deserves equal rights. I guess next we should give criminals the same rights as well. And while we are at we can give people the right to marry animals, its all about love right? Who are we to say that people and animals can't love each other? As long as it isn't taught to our children right? The future implications of No on 8 reasoning scares me.
Lucario1856 3 years ago 2
um. criminals already have the same rights. felons can marry while incarcerated.

it sounds like you guys want a strict majority rules syle of government with no balances on the laws you can have passed.

Thanks Gavin.
jmw1111 3 years ago 3
People who think religion is 100% to blame for this Proposition's success are ignorant and hypocritical. Do you really think ALL of the religious vote represented 52% of the majority?? Facts are that there are actually those who are not religious that believe in traditional marriage. Get off the religious bashing. It is racist and hypocritical. The truth is California is not ready. The voices spoke in 2000 and have spoken again in 2008.
Get off the religious hate people.
thundrwagn 3 years ago 3
This comment has received too many negative votes show
What are you trying to prove in this video?
It's still going to happen whether you like it or not, although it may take more time. Religion is dying and people are realizing it just causes more hate than love. Religion wont always be a huge factor in votes like this.
That's the only reason it got passed and you know it, if there was no bible it would have passed so quick.
Expl0rati0n 3 years ago
LOL it wasn't a huge factor this time around. They got in on the action, but the fact is no on 8's rush to judgment on those who disagree did them in. People aren't going to support your cause if you're quick to call their beliefs stupid.
I don't know when liberals forgot tolerance applies to people they don't like and don't agree with as it does with people they do agree with, but they need to try and remember that. For now, traditional marriage FTW
sblxi 3 years ago
It's hard to be tolerant when you are voting to TAKE AWAY RIGHTS especially in a really snarky know it all goody goody way. You guys act like we're the problem here, but really you guys are the problem. You're using a book with old morals to support your ideas, and when you look at the facts that nothing bad will happen, you ignore them and continue being ignorant.
You can't generalize that all gays are against religion just because of me, I have strong feelings towards my atheism.
Expl0rati0n 3 years ago
The court's decision was an egregious example of activist judges making sweeping policy decisions with vast societal implications. Policymaking decisions of this kind are broadly political, not narrowly judicial, and should be made through the lawmaking process in a way that reflects settled public opinion, informed by long-established traditions and the principles of social order.
There was no "right". The court invented it... and rightly got overturned by the people.
combatoverridebutton 3 years ago
Activist judges? You mean 4 REPUBLICAN judges, appointed by Bush and Reagan?? Hmmmm. . .
invisiblepsycho 3 years ago
