I'm a white male. (You are free to believe that or not, given all the other things I have had to say in battles on YouTube and the internet.)
Luckily, I have NEVER experienced any discrimination for being a white male.
I would STILL dread to be black in the USA.
Yes, I know that injustice of ANY kind - against being a white male, black male, white female, black female etc - still exists. Not necessarily all equally, but, Murphy's Law is still true: any injustice that CAN exist DOES exist.
Marist College pays $2500 per class. It takes only 1.5 students to pay my salary the cost for an instructor at Marist where 70% of the faculty are part-time. Stupid parents don't see the connection between employment and educational mediocrity
Here's my general advice: RECOGNIZE that you're damn smart if you're already able to do grad school. You're heads up above other possible competitors when it comes to finding jobs.
another note: a good friend of mine, modest record, has been "living adjunct". The video here's good at showing how important cash is to living. It's useful to have a care to get to your job! And have food.
@Gumby518 I studied philosophy in the early 90s. Two professors at different institutions noted the difficulties white males would have getting work. . .since there was/is still plenty of good candidates, in in such a plethora of talent and credentials, gender matters. It helps departments (read: department heads) look good.
The gender thing isn't the critical thing, though. The problem is that there are just too, too many people pursuing dwindling numbers of regular liberal arts jobs.

This is EXACTLY why I left my PhD program. . . plus it's not so great being a white male.

@RondelayAOK please do say more about experience. These vids are making me think critically about pursuing a PhD
