  • Actually, I believe Laura Creamer did this version.

  • Duncan is the ONE

  • It need not be aspecific place for it is more the sorrow from whence we came The courage that propels us That is all things

  • NOW ONE DAY I MIGHT TAKE YOU TO BONNIE PORTMORE

  • @davyboy176

Ok!! Tell me when and I will be at the "red door"...lol

  • Am I the only one that wants to take a sword, go in the woods and somehow have this song playing in the background forever??

  • Fine tune, fine voice!

  • better than eye of the tiger for a "get into shape for the fight" montage

  • The very first time I heard this song years ago I was just totally mesmerized. I shared it with a lot of friends. And they cried too. Thanks a million for this video... You made my day:-)

  • can Deborah Kara Unger actually BE more beautiful????? i mean seriously...!! combined with her sexy voice she`s from out of this world!!

  • Great film great song connor macleod is the ONE

  • The 22 wankers who pressed the dislike button are English.

  • @dude75able

Classy.. im english and like this song.

  • my favorite part in Highlander 3

  • Scotland got its name from the Irish Scoti tribe who came from the kingdom of Dalriada in County Antrim, and established themselves in the 5th century.

The song alludes to the shared consanguineal history between Ireland and western Scotland. But McLeod is actually a norse name.

  • Goosebumps! Loreena sings so beautifully.

  • this movie was so much better than highlander 2. It tried to return to the spirit of the original

  • madddddddddddddd

  • ca transporte !!!!

  • Quite possibly the best scene in Highlander 3

  • @khyea91 I have to disagree... Debrah Unger nude is beyond a doubt the best scene! chuckles... but seriously this is my fav part of the movie... both cause I like it and Deberah gets naked right after it!

  • esta canción de las mas bonitas que he escuchado hojala el homenaje conor no lo borren esta my hecha gracias

  • although i am of dutch breed....i have a soft spot for the highlands and its inhabitants.

  • its a song , give me strong to live many times soory for my english :D

  • @phr34kyy if you check your braveheart facts you'll find "While the crew spent six weeks shooting on location in Scotland, the major battle scenes were shot in Ireland using members of the Irish Army Reserve as extras. To lower costs, Gibson had the same extras portray both armies. The opposing armies are made up of reservists, up to 1,600 in some scenes, who had been given permission to grow beards and swapped their drab uniforms for medieval garb."

  • This is an old Irish traditional folk song which details the centuries of Ireland's old oak forests, specifically The Great Oak of Portmore, being leveled for military and shipbuilding purposes. Its a nice version song by a Canadian of celtic and gaelic descent...

  • what a fantastic song ever so haunting i love to listen to this when im doing long drivers through europe late at nite brilliant

  • There is a song that followed this beautiful song, I believe it was during the love scene. Does anyone know who the artist is? And the name also? I don't know whether it's on the OST.

  • @Jasswegian I doubt thoughs arguing here on wether its irish or scottish are actually either or since I've noticed that on many other Celtic related videos that many of them are usually Scottish-american Or Irish-americans thinking they are actually irish and or scots, thus the ill-informed comments.

Braveheart was filmed in scotland and in ireland and the extras in battles where scottish soldiers from the british army, scottish regiments.

Loreena McKennit who sings this is Irish and a Scot.

  • @phr34kyy

And last but not least shes also from Canada, Scots, Irish, And French, And welsh stick together, were all celtcs so all of you would-be Yanks need to re-learn you're history, cause you're all victims of Anglo-american propaganda, hence in america you make fun of the french just like the english where in Scotland and Ireland and Wales, we don't.

    Auld Alliance.

    God bless, from Scotland.

  • @phr34kyy not all "yanks" are bad. I'm Scottish-American, and this song moves me every time I hear it.

    Alba Gu Brath

  • @phr34kyy She maybe Irish and a Scotish, but first she is a Canadian.

  • @pbmtww

why is so important where she was born, is the mix of that and her family roots what makes her an amazing singer- performer. Let origins be there but dont get comfused about what is the end result.

  • Great Scene and Song. Highlander 3 was the last good Highlander movie!

  • Who cares if it's Irish...the Scots and Irish are Celts......enjoy the song for what it is.

  • The moment is worth watching whole movie.

  • I'm HIGHLANDER ...too Inmortality lover

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!

    5*****

  • One of the most beautiful song ever written. This song is incredible in this setting. Go Scotland!!!

  • @sbburris4040 it's an Irish song, so yeah it fits well with the scottish setting

  • just amazing and how you say byutifull?

  • this ong fits the highlander movies and the tv series... i miss watching it.

  • I love Loreena's voice and music..

  • una de las mejores voces y canciones.

  • Eilean Donan Castle was in the first Highlander.

As eoooooon said this is tioram castle in Loch Moidart :)

    Wonderful Scotland! And great Loreena!

  • Highlander guy spends a lot of his free time on rocky overlooks looking morose.

  • Wish I had that kind of time.

  • This song is touching heart and soul and the video clip is great!

  • hello who know this castel in movie clip???

    sorry for my en:-(

  • hello! i'm Joan LLuis and I like very much all the films of the highlander.

This is the Castle of Eilean Donan, in Scotland, near Duich Loch. It's a beautiful place. Near is Inverness, (8 mile)

    Starts to build in 1220

  • The correct answer is Tioram Castle.

  • Absolutely the prettiest song ever! i get chocked up every time i hear it. There is only one...

  • this bit of 3 and the original highlander are all that are worth it, the rest is just garbage.

  • Thank you for uploading this scene. My favorite movie with and incredible song, amazing landscapes, the concept of immortals...

  • I dont count Endgame as cannon anyhow so Connor still lives!!!!!

  • I don't count End Game, the Source and the last season of the TV series

    So Richie lives too

  • I like the song and the film but........

Bonny Portmore is a song about a place in Ireland, specifacally a tree!

  • i dont remember them claiming it wasnt irish you tool

  • I'm referring to the setting of the film, Scotland you tool.

  • Agerasia

"I like the song & the film but.."

Good point "but" music expounds many more words & ideas than lyrics could ever achieve.

    good music touches the soul

  • is it just me or does he look a lot like ray from Hung?

  • I don't understand the end of the 4th part. Is Duncan the last immortal left or he just killed Connor?

  • Comment removed

  • he killed Connor so he gaind his strenght so he could finish Jacob ( the strongest immortal atm)

And in the 5th movie for some reason "The Source" drains all immortals power so they had to find the source and fight the gaurdian and if u defeat him u win the prize... after highlander 3 movie it just got downHill...

  • Atm?Isn't that cash machine:-)?

  • the best song of lorenna!!! i love her!!

  • Love this song, one of my favorites.

  • class tune

  • I always thought that Highlander was about finding yourself after centuries of being uncertain of yourself even after losing the ones you loved. This video gave me inspiration to always look forward and be prepare for anything no matter the outcome. Connor MacLeod will always be my favorite immortal of all time.

  • Ilike him too,but i preferr female immortals,like Amanda,and her first tutor Rebbeca,then Felicia Martens,etc.....

  • Amanda's my favorite female immortal and I do miss Rebecca. I don't like immortals like Kristin who kills people when she doesn't get her way. Nefertiri was truly beautiful when she first appeared in "Pharoah's Daughter". But her centuries of hatred towards her former lover outweighs the love that was inside her.

  • I would have like to see more of Rebecca, who was Felicia Nartens?

    Favorite females

    Amanda

    Rebecca

    Cidwyn

    Least liked

The Brat who Amanda was suppose to teach

    Neferttit

  • Felicia Martens was an immortal who tried to kill Duncan MacLeod, along with Tessa Noel andRitchie Ryan, his protegee.Who's Cidwyn, and who's that brat you mentioned?"There can be only one":-)

  • I am a drawing a black on Felicia Martens (is she the one played by Joan Jett)

Cidwyn(sp) is the ancient Britian at least 2000 years old she is in the third season while Duncan is in France this is before he reveals to Anne Lindsay he is an immortal.

The Brat is the teenage girl who Duncan know is going to turn he turns her over to Amanda to be trained. We never hear about her again. I hope amanda broke the teacher rule and took her head.

  • Yes,Felicia Martens, was played by Joan Jett, and now when you mentioned,i remember'd that Britian, she dies with her entire war prty in combat against Roman's at the beggining of an episode, but i didnt seen that episode with the brat, sorry. What's the episode name(that mention the brat)?

  • Magnifique voix, elle me donne des frissons

  • not a bad movie, it tried to recapture the spirit of the first one after that ridiculous Highlander 2

  • ahmen

  • I will admit that Highlander 2 didn't live up to the first, but that final speech Ramirez gives as the fan is coming down: one of my favorite movie bits ever.

  • I am in the vocal ensemble at our school and we are doing this song!

  • I love this song, and I've always loved Highlander. :)

    Thumbs up!

  • Decent movie, great singer and song; Ms. McKennit is spectacular, for those who have the ability to see her voice and words.

  • as a kid i recorded this song from VHS to cassettes on a small radio.i listened to it thousands of times.

yesterday i attended the live consert of loreena at Patras,Greece.this was her second song.

simply amazing....brings tears to my eyes :)

  • @TolisWinona

Hi I do understand you very well . Long time ago I started this love with Irish music, This tv series will make me cry even when I was a little girl, its music give me chills.

Lilttle I knew that i will meet my love in Dublin, an irish.

  • Yes, she is Canadian. She now resides in Stratford-on-Avon in Southwest Ontario. I believe she is a Companion of the Order of Canada as well.

  • great song

  • the most part of the anime heros are based of Connor Mcleod and Duncan from Highlander. Shakugan no Shana its a example of this.

  • there's several versions of this song and this one's the original.

  • Wait a sec....Orangeville is in Kanada! Sweet!

  • Yes.. Roderickpass...you are correct..

  • you know...for all the talk about watchin the movies....i thinj uve forgotten that the katana originally belonged 2 his friend and teacher ramirez...and it was only after his wife died and he used his own sword as a cross that he took the katana as his own

  • what a song

  • Beautiful Song.....

Ironic - its not even scottish:)

"Bonny Portmore" is an old IRISH Ballad

"Braveheart" was filmed entirely in Ireland also:)

  • Much of the music in Braveheart is from the Irish Uilleann pipes too as they have a softer more melodious sound than the harsher sounding Scottish bagpipes.

But we'll let them off this time lol

  • Equally ironic, Loreena McKennitt Canadian (from Orangeville, Ontario).

Wonderful marriage of music and film.

  • Great insight...

  • great comment! Thanks!

  • Some of Braveheart was filmed in Glen Nevis near Fort William. I was in the Glen when all the set was up and the people filming. They went to Ireland to film the battle scenes.

  • @lazarush1980 it was filmed in scottland as well you reject why are people always think there right when they dont no the facts it was done in scotland and ireland check out bravehart filming locations before posting crap

  • @supermanbrl Ireland and Scotland are neighbors, and they're linked by heritage.

    ALBA GU BRATH

    ERIN GO BRAGH

    piss on Sessanach

  • @lazarush1980 Not (entirely) true ;-) . Google for the Scotland Movie location guide, and search for 'Braveheart'

  • @lazarush1980 - Nonsense, Ireland does not have the landscapes shown in that film. The outdoor scenes were filmed entirely in the Scottish highlands . I have visited Ireland in many occasions and there is nothing there to compare with the sheer beauty that exists in Scotland - nothing whatsoever.

  • @AlbaSiar well since connor was born in scotland it doesnt matter glenfinnan is in scotland

  • @AlbaSiar why dont you look at Carrauntoohil

  • @AlbaSiar i agree but i also dissagree , i am from Nova Scotia Canada translated means new scotland , not saying its better than scotland or ireland would never say that ireland and scotland is where we come from but google images Nova Scotia and Cape breton Island and the highlands of cape breton , we try to hold on to who we r as much as we can

  • This song is great, highlander is great. The first movie is the best I think.

The so called Claymore swords were not significant for highland clans.

  • I first heard this song several years before from Bert Jansch. His is a little more straightforward and less histrionic.

  • Connor Rule`s

  • He's a Highlander, a Highlander dosent carry a samurai sword. He should carry his first sword.

  • He placed that at his wifes grave

  • He is a highlander, why the hell does he make a samurai sword instead of a bigass Claymore broadsword????

  • Watch the movies and youll see why.

  • Also a claymore is too heavy and 'smashes' through an opponent, a katana is far more agile and balanced and can be used for thrusting as well as cutting, the katana is considered the zenith of sword technology

  • Im aware the claymore is much heavier,im just saying it fits him more as he is a highlander.

Its like if us vikings from the north would use arab scimitars instead.

  • like he said watch the movies

  • I have,i still dont get it.

    Oh well.

  • its because he had been trained in japanese sword fighting and realized the natural flow of the katana its only logical that he would use a katana since its more fluid and devastating then other styles

  • he inherited the Katana from his mentor and used it for centuries, makes sense that when he had to make a new blade he would forge a katana.

  • Damascus steel is functionally identical to the best Japanese steel. The difference is that Europeans also invented and made the shift to firearms, ultimately making swords obsolete.

  • Comment removed

  • In fact Damascus Steel, or Wootz, is NOT functionally identical to Japanese steel. The patterns in Damascus steel; are from carbide grains that forms in large cells due to prolonged heat treating. Scientific American printed a fine artical on Wootz back in the eighties.

Japanese steel is refined by folding several times a high carbon billet then wrapping it around a wrought iron or low carbon core. Kodansa Publishers' "The Art of the Japanese Sword" is a beautiful book on swordsmithing.

  • Great film, beautiful song.

THX !!!

  • songs Irish not scottish

  • I Love this song !!! Bye

  • Hedda*****Stars

  • great song, pity Portmore is in Ireland.

There are 5 movies, Highlander, Highlander2 (of which there are 2 versions, check out the 'renegade' version, not as bad as the original, though still bad),Highlander3(US title is Highlander-The Sorcerer), Highlander: Endgame (last appearance of Chris Lambbert), Highlander:The Source, 2 tv-series (Highlander-The Gathering and Highlander-The Raven, An Anime' Highlander: The Search for Vengeance, a bad french cartoon, and an upcoming videogame

  • I have never seen this.

I am determined to find it.

People say the original is the best?

That is what I will look for.

    Just adore this clip.

I can just put myself right in the scenes!

  • Highlander III the second best in the franchise and the only worthy sequel i think!

    O bonny portmore, lamento ver

  • Yea Highlander awseome song with a Scottish feeling...

  • Beautiful Video-Thanks.

  • I've always been curious. If there can be only one how are there two more movies?

  • There are actually 5 movies plus a 6 season tv-series total

  • Oh wow, really? I only ever knew of three. I guess I have some catching up to do. lol

  • Though the series is a different version of the story (set in an alternative universe to use the producers explanation) and the last two movies Highlander:Endgame and Highlander: The Source are based on the series version rather than the movies

  • One of the best songs ever written!

  • Ye Gods...

    Sends shivvers down my spine...

    Beautiful.

  • Listen the other songs from Loreena McKennitt too... they are equally as good as this one, if not even better. I'm glad I discovered her music.

  • beautiful song,realy

Nie mogłem Go nigdzie spodkać. Wielkie Dzięki za udostępnienie. Thank you Wery Much!

  • really...great video.

  • Great movie. Not better than the original Highlander or the series, but great. Beautiful. Best Highlander scene ever.

  • This song is great! But I want to give here a comment: Portmore was a oak forest from Ireland which was destroyed during many years...and Highland is a region from Scotland. But the beuty of music and Scottish images does not diminish this video.

I am in love with Celtic music and also by culture. I have special affection for Scotland. This video gave us the feeling of being closer to the Scottish mountains :) Thank you

  • couldn't agree more mate :-). I used to live in Scotland for 3 years and the Scots are 4ever in my heart. For the record, some scenes of the first Highlander were filmed in Ireland. Could be why they put bonnie portmore as a kind of thank you maybe hehehe.

Thanks for the additional info on bonnie portmore.

Long live the Celts!! (long enough to shove it up the english's arses hehehe)

  • And the Scots are such hot men... :D lol

  • totally agree with ya man i'm half scottish. I'm dream of living in scotland after i graduate from college i'm definetely going BELIEVE IT!!!!

  • Anyone with an ounce of Celtic blood couldn't keep a dry eye hearing this!

  • nasalema,

The first time I heard this, tears welled in my eyes, and I had a feeling of longing for a place I've never even been to.

By the way, I'm not even Celtic. I'm Hispanic. Is this crazy or what?!?

Long Live Ireland & the Irish,

    hsoliz

  • Celts began from Spain. So, celtic blood may run in your veins...

  • Thank you for your comments. I grew up in an Irish home. My grandfather brought my mother here as a small child. He never lost his brogue. He's been gone a long time but I still miss him greatly. This song reminds me of him. :-)

  • You do know the video is of Scotland though and the music is about Ireland?

  • I havent heard this for years, but its still makes every hair stand on end. Beautiful song and fanstastic voice.

  • Best HL montage ever.

  • wonderful song

  • type it in on star trek enterprise it has a good version been hunting for this song sense i was the Homeland espideo
