  • Yes, the label is a like reading the promo for a hollywood movie. Put me off a few times with the BS but finally tried it and saw your review. Glad I did both. (Bought in Aus from Dan Murphies).

  • haha yer pretty quiet ! lol

  • Brilliant review, I saw this in DMurphys (aussie) the other day, read the label and didn't buy because of the 'over the top' language! (bought a Big Peat instead, at double cost mind you).

Glad I watched your review, will probably buy now as its only $34 Aus. Thanks again, keep up the great work.

  • @1DeathWalkingTerror1 just got a bottle, I did find this complex and funnily enough quite sweet... great qualitly and complexity for $35 aus.

  • Touch wood? We (Turks) knock on wooden material to get protected against evil eyes. Seems to be the same tradition which is probably coming from shaman ages... Interesting coincidence.

  • Hi Ralfy, I predict your reviews become legendary! Great stuff.

Quick question for you: I recently read a review of BNJ at another site and they spoke of it as a sweeter blend. However, seeing this review it doesn't seem so. Being Norwegian-blooded, I rather fancy anything sweet-tasting (a curse!). What would you recommend as some of the sweeter blended scotches? I'd love to taste a sweet, smokey finish (if I was aiming for perfection.)

  • @maxcohen13

sweet and smokey ? ... Lagavulin distillers Edition (double matured) .. see review No: 99 ..... and the sweet malts in my book are Fettercairn, Strathisla and Cardhu.

    ... happy dramming !!!

  • @maxcohen13 Sweet & smokey? Try Laphroaig Quarter Cask or Ardmore :-)

  • dude im on my 12fth botle of this stuf i cant get enuff :D crazy lovin your reviews and when i get sick of this im gonna try some of your faves ! when my wallet allows

  • Ralfy

Lawrence gave me a bottle to try a dram and I was quite impressed. I have it right in front of me and I am enjoying it immensely. Always a pleasure watching your shows, take care and hope to see you again in Victoria

  • hi ralf :D i came across you video after purchasing a bottle of bnj from dan murpheys in melbourne, australia as it was on special, and has a cork in the bottle, which im sure you would agree should be compulsory! he he luv the vid !wil be watching some more of yours im sure, found this one entertaining(especialy the tounge tied start hahah) and somwhat informative .good score id give it 90 for a blend! piaid $34.00 AU for it and really enjoying it hence me tapping it into google!

    luv yr work!

  • @mjadolphus

... thanks dude ! happy drammin'

  • @mjadolphus watch more of ralfy's reviews and you'll find he doesn't mind screw caps either. This is a great blend aye!

  • I'm drinking this as I watch, Ralf. Strangely, the first and second drams of this I had seemed nut-less, but now, on the third dram (spread-out over as many weeks, I might add!), I'm noticing the hazelnut at the finish. It's definitely very dry after a flash of sweetness as you first sip it, and sour/citrus as well. A hint of spice perhaps, but my palate isn't experienced enough to detect any peat.

  • I love this blend!

Had it in a bar & keep wanting more!

    Lovely stuff!

  • hey, Ralfy! Not seen you since bumping into you at the Royal Mile shop in Edinburgh! I see you didn't get a remote control for your camera for Christmas! It would be so much easier when you finish you reviews!! Keep 'em coming!

  • ... thanks for the suggestion, but for the moment I will hold the present format till the BBC send a camera man !!!

  • 06:40 sorry.

  • Pedant!

  • Pedant

    noun

pedants insist that the twenty-first century starts with 2001: dogmatist, purist, literalist, formalist, doctrinaire, perfectionist; quibbler, hair-splitter, casuist, sophist; informal nitpicker.

    ... yup ! ... a bit !

  • I was referring to thegreatbasher below.

    Keep up the good work.

  • 06:42 you pronounced the whisky mentioned as Glan Mor-ray. No quite right I believe? I think it should be Murray as in the famous young Scottish tennis star. I'm not dragging you down, I just thought that as a Scot you might not make such a simple mistake as this one. Happy responsible drinking and keep up the great work.

  • next review? what? when?

  • Why does a higher malt content mean you rate it higher (in the Teacher's example you gave)?

  • ... a higher malt content in blends generally (though not always) allow one to add a little water which releases complexity in the Spirit rather like a Single Malt.

Teachers is a good example of a Blend that improves with a drop of water, revealing complexity missing in some other grain-heavy Blends.

  • hey! how about jhonnie walker green gold & blue labbel??

  • green ? ... sometime this year ! Gold and Blue ? .... no, wouldn't buy them, they are over-priced.

  • had this the last time i was over in the burgh......

nice stuff. bit of a whirlwind in your mouth, but absolutly gorgeous!!!

  • Ralfy...you said 80 out of 100 but the card read 88? Which one?

  • ... oops !

    88/100

  • Entertaining as usual, Was the coffin in the hearse when you crashed it? If so bet you had more than one BNJ. I like you are not too keen on Bowmore, but I was at a tasting at DT Huntly and tasted the Tempest- bought 2 bottles, either i was drunk or the whisky made an impact on me as I never normally buy 2 bottles the same at the same time as i am a grippy Aberdonian loon ;-))

  • ... fortunately no coffin in the hearse at the time, but still humiliating/embarrassing all the same.

  • Great review Ralfy funny too, look up this you tube video: "George Carlin bullshit in advertising" I think you'll like it.

  • Excellent review. I think 'I Hate Crashing Hearses' would be a great name for a band.

  • Speaking of peatiness..Have you reviewed any Bowmore whiskys yet Ralfy? I tried a dram at my elder brother's place and it really seemed peatier than all the rest( inc the laphraoig and ardbeg). Unless i just got a particularly strong batch...

  • ... could be a 'strong' Batch a peat levels can vary with Bowmore, and I have to say that there are not that many Bowmores I would buy due to the over-branding and rough nature of the younger Malts.

I reckon I might try to buy a 'Tempest' whilst it's still new to the market.

  • The 18 y.o. is my favourite bowmore, nice balance between sherry sweetnes, creamy bourbon vanilla and a nice touch of dry peat.

  • Nice one Ralfy. I'm looking for some whiskies that contain a strong original flavour :)

  • 2:32 "Rob Roy MacGregor"

    You said that exceptionally well!

  • i remeber the Film :-)
