@chuckfender164 lower ur bus speed and increase ur multiplier for still have u oc ,u cant boot because u have a high nb frecuency and this ram oc increase that
hey great video. However I feel that I learned a few things, one being, don't waste time trying to overclock RAM. haha Like said though. Great video. You always have pretty good info. I bought A-DATA DDR3 1333 the other day, and givin the reviews on it, I don't think i'll even try overclocking. It is their "gaming series" but I just don't think it'd be worth the trouble. Right?
So the moral of the story is that over-clocking the RAM makes for a SLOWER Super Pie, OR reduction in latency makes absolutely no difference in even the most "minute" tests of RAM speed. You don't post the numbers, but here they are.
Baseline 14.305sec
25% FASTER Clock - 14.227sec
Faster Latency - 14.29sec
3D Mark - 18,534 to 18,692 to 18,654 (Standard Error)
Interesting video regardless, and I learned a few things, including not to waste my money on overlclocking ram. Thanks!
@Swapneeiil 1333Hz is the safe clock that the motherboard uses for all the rams, if you bought a 1600Hz ram, change the settings and use what you paid for.
Hey i do not know much about ram, so i've a question.... Can you put any kind of ram in your pc or is there anything you should know before you buy ram ? I'm planning to get 4 gb (2X2GB) kingston hyperx blu 1333mhz ddr3 for my pc witch has a phenom ii x6 and a Asus M4N75TD motherboard. So, is it a good choise or isn't it compatible ? please reply! thanks.
@74Eric74 The memory you put in your machine is relative to what the motherboard supports, always. If you got 4gigs of DDR3 1333MHz ram, then you'll need a motherboard that supports the type (DDR3) and the speed (1333MHz).
There should be a listing of ram is capable based on type and speed, check out newegg for details if you've never been there before. It should become pretty obvious once you look at the motherboard specs.

Hi, I am sorry for my bad English, I have a question, I am interested in the Intel Core i5 760 s1156, motherboard is Gigabyte h55m-usb3, and took'd DDR3 RAM memory, but I'm not sure which volume, do I i5 on Intel processors may DDR3 1600 MHz or faster, 1800 MHz or 2200 MHz, right would be a problem? Thanks in advance ....
@DaedricDracq can you please show to overclock it on ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 if you still have it, because i have no idea what you did in the video, because my motherboard is not like that
I did something similar on Mushkin blackline enhanced 998798 3x4gb ram, I had my 1600mhz ram all the way up to 2000mhz with 9,9,9 timings, What I found for my ram Is I got better scores with 1720mhz with lower latency 7,9,8 Also read an article where lower latency tends to benefit DDR3 more then higher Mhz
I'd love to overclock my system but my 550 watt system is plugged into a 450 watt battery backup and if I overclock my backup gives me overloaded beeps.
comprise protection and the ability to keep using my PC when the power is out or overclock my system ~33%?
My Phenom II x3 720 is stable at ~3.6 ghz my gtx 460 1gb cyclone is fine at 825 mhz and I keep my OCZ platinum 1600 at stock.
So u dont need to change to voltages on the ram to overclock it? and how does faster ram help us again? I understand if its bigger like 2gigs or 4gigs, but whats the speed for?
@EddieLolz3r im pretty sure it depends on the timings, and i think the difference is soo small, it would be probably better to go with the 1333, since its most likely cheaper
Not really a free speed boost when you add the fact it shortens the life of your hardware and thus means you will be spending money sooner rather then later.
Not really, it shortens the life when you go outside the set voltage. Keeping it it at (for example) 1600Mhz @ CAS 9 with 1.65v your not gonna see much of a life degredation when you put it at Cas 7 or if you put it at 1800Mhz @ Cas 9.
Most of the time memory will easily run outside it's specs, company's do it so they can improve yields. Christ my 1600Mhz Cas 7 DDR3 can run @ 2000Mhz Cas9.
@Blimp01 no he has the same thin as me when u switch pc components alot u have to put the key in over and over and i\we both said fuck it he said that in a earlier video but my cd key after i formatted twice it wouldnt work lol microsoft ??????????????????
You also forgot to mention that DDR = dual data rate lol
You coulda also said that latency lowering is more useful for AMD (I lowered my timings on the G.Skill ECO from 1600, 7-8-7-24 to 6-8-6-20 and I got a large boot time improvement, on an AMD x6 platform).
You forgot to mention SuperPi 32M can also be used as a RAM stability tool.... or what to even use as stability tools (SuperPi, memtest86+ and IntelBurn are the best, Prime95 blend is good too).
The performance increase isn't very high so I will probably stick with 1600mhz at 1.5v which is what my ram is rated for. I don't feel very comfortable with overclocking but thanks for the tutorial.
@alex14469 if you can squeeze substantial frames per second out of a game then fuck ya, otherwise who gives a fuck especially if you aren't comfortable or more importantly don't have expendable/extra hardware kicking about incase of epic failure. of course you want to milk any extra free morsel out of your purchase, but on the other hand you risk killing it or harming it's longevity. With my cashflow I like a pc to last like 7+ years so and I lack knowledge/cash so I just never try to do OC
@ShitWrangler well overclocking my gpu gave me a very significant boost in performance, if ram overclocking could do the same I would do the research and go for it but the apps that I am using don't really benefit much from ram oc. I did adjust it to 1600mhz because it was running at 1333 at first , no performance difference, no change to windows score, still 7.5
@ryancouture about 30 c for a standard 4 GB set running at 700 to 1300 mhz if you overclock the ram to about 1600 to even 2000 mhz then it will be around 40c or more depends on your heatspreaders, if you are overclocking your ram get a good Ram cooler like the Kingston hyper x :)
@HansensUniverse or buy kingstons new watercooled ram and avoid their terrible ram fans all together, ive heard some of those and they're fucking loud as hell but maybe newer ones are ok
@ShitWrangler ehm i preffer Corsair ram but i gues Kingston is ok, but the Kingstone Hyper X is a good cooler i got it my self for my Corsair Dominator 12 GB set :)
hey linus. i was wondering if you could help me out with my first pc build. please respond to this. all i want to do is show you the parts i'm getting and see if you have any suggestions for it. thanks!

I did adjust it to 1600mhz because it was running at 1333 at first , no performance difference, no change to windows score, still 7.5
alex14469 1 year ago
@alex14469 Depending on your platform, 1333mhz and 1600mhz may have no difference. This can be the case on some AMD platforms.

unless the frequency is very low, latency makes a bigger difference

how hot can ram get honestly
ryancouture 1 year ago
@ryancouture about 30 c for a standard 4 GB set running at 700 to 1300 mhz if you overclock the ram to about 1600 to even 2000 mhz then it will be around 40c or more depends on your heatspreaders, if you are overclocking your ram get a good Ram cooler like the Kingston hyper x :)
HansensUniverse 1 year ago
@HansensUniverse or buy kingstons new watercooled ram and avoid their terrible ram fans all together, ive heard some of those and they're fucking loud as hell but maybe newer ones are ok
ShitWrangler 1 year ago
@ShitWrangler ehm i preffer Corsair ram but i gues Kingston is ok, but the Kingstone Hyper X is a good cooler i got it my self for my Corsair Dominator 12 GB set :)
