@2MrGrumpy In all honesty its a great book if you'd like to learn about Cuba and the horrible conditions under the Communist regime, i must warn you however that every other page (no exaggeration) contains unbelievably graphic, vivid, oftentimes disturbing sexual content. Not just man-woman or man-man but orgies and bestiality in very (for lack of better description) gruesome detail, the amount of this content (including incest, and the aforementioned bestiality) has turned me off of the book

I wish this movie could've capture the powerful art of Reinaldo Arenas. And why is this movie in English? Why are we always trying to appeal to an American audience? "Here, here, there's a little writer from Cuba that you might like". It annoys me. He wrote in Spanish, language was his life and his escape and I wish they would've respected that.

I was told the book is more sexually charged than the movie, which is also heavy on the matter. But imagine, it was part of the man's life, who he was, it's what was happening, it must be there. However, this is about more than a gay man's promiscuous sex life. He was a man alone in life, a writer, and had a strong political stance against the cancerous communists that made his life, and Cuba, a nightmare; and ultimately, left Cubans without a nation.
