  • That's fantastic Paul, thank you for sharing this, Norm.

  • @drummingriffin Thank you Norm,Im glad you found it enjoyable. Did you spot the very young Mr Paul as a paige boy... ha ha

The church is still there and so is the Police station in the back ground. Nothing has changed too much looking back. :-)

  • awww, I was married here in June 2011 ... this is lovely

  • @JackieandAdrian Wow! Congratulations, hope your day went well, and that in many many years time, you too will be looking back on your day just like this... :-)

    Thanks for watching

  • This video really is fantastic, it is great that it is up here for all of us to see!

  • @GogglePlex101 Yep thats the idea, shame to keep it hidden away in some dark cupboard, and the older it gets, the more appeal it will probably have too...

    Thanks for watching :-)

  • I was wrong about my Mom and Dad getting married there. In my defence, it was the first anniversary of my Dad's death yesterday and I was a bit pissed, emotional, and clearly not remembering their photos showing the very solid old doors of St Peter's! I shared this clip on ym facebook page and have had some nice comments. :-)

  • @Katothemato Sorry to hear that. The music in this film was added by the chap who transferred them to DVD, and can make me feel melancholy at the best of times, so if you have had a drink on top, it must be a whole lot worse.

Any way Im glad others are getting a chance to see some priceless sixties cine footage, that has to be very good thing, Try and keep strong. :-)

    Thanks for commenting.

  • Thanks for sharing this. It was lovely to watch. I was baptised at St Pat's in early 1967 and my Mom and Dad were married there in 1964. I wish my family had been "posh" enough to have a cine-camera; we have so few photos to look back on. If you haven't already done so, maybe get in touch with Stuart Williams at the Local History Museum. Beautiful material like this needs to be preserved and shared.

  • @Katothemato Thanks for your nice comments - The man getting married is my uncle, he's still alive and living in Brownhills now. He isn't posh by any means and he got into a big debt when he bought this fancy camera equipment from a catalogue back in the mid sixties. Im so glad he did looking back, the footage is priceless to me ( the page boy ) After many years of pestering him, I got the cine film put onto DVD, hence what you see here now. Im hoping many people can now view this via YouTube...

  • If you were the page boy we're probably of a similar same age. Did you marry the little bridesmaid? ;-) I was a boy chorister in church choirs in Birmingham during the 70s and we used to sing at many weddings. Nowadays, they are rare and quite exclusive, the exception rather than the norm. It's good to know that the happy couple are still married, now over 40 years.

  • @mickypoo4622 Do you know, I have no idea who the little bridesmaid was, I would have to ask my parents for that, but no I didn't marry her... ha ha.

    Thanks for watching :-)

  • Love this kind of stuff, are they still married?

  • @youbold3 Thanks I too love this kind of nostalgic look back. I was the paige boy in this video, and these were all my family members, so this film means more to me than most others. Yes they are still married. :-))

  • you would have never thought back then, that pleck would be a white minority area nowadays.. i.e Pleckistan

  • Hey im making a documentary for a project at school, would I be able to include this footage in it?

    Cheers

  • @Sarabi3992 Only if you give me the credit and a link to it

  • @Bevoin1970 @Bevoin1970 Would you like us to upload the video on youtube or we could send you the video through email? we are doing a school documentary for nelson college for girls, nelson, new zealand. We are using only some of the footage of the people walking out of the church. thanks

  • @Sarabi3992 Im ok with it being posted on YouTube, just acknowledge me in some way on the video description and post me a link so I can view your finished results.

    Look forward to watching it.

    Thank You.

    Paul :-)

  • My mothers family lived at No.102 Dora Street right up until 2000. I spent a lot of time there as a youngster. Thanks for the memories.

  • Im glad you enjoyed this film. Thanks for watching and commenting... :-)

  • Wonderful Bevoin ! There has always been something magical about the old silent home movies, but your music selection gave it real life ! Good work !

  • Many thanks, Im very happy you enjoyed this film. Thanks for watching. :-)

  • 21 years before i was even born. i find stuff like this amazing, even the old pictures of willenhall from 35+ years ago. never seen any video of that though. trying to picture whats what the background and even if it's still there.

  • You can bet there must be cine film of Willenhall out there somewhere... These were my uncles films, been kept in a plastic carrier bag for years till I got hold of them and got them transferred to DVD. Much of what is in this film is still quite similar, especially around the church in Walsall. Sadly most of the people in this video have gone now. Keep looking and enjoying. Thanks for watching. :-)

  • looks like some lad was getting told off a 4:49!

  • Ha Ha yes probably...!! :-)

  • i wasn't born till 1985 but this looks more like the Walsall i grew up in than what it looks like now does. i live on Wednsebury road where we have had some massive changes recently what with the flats going and the rejuvenation of the area.

thanks for posting this, i can look at home when i am away now, or even when i feel like this new walsall isnt my home any more as i sometimes do.

  • Im a bit older than you, but a local lad non the less. It certainly isn't the Walsall I have fond memories off. I've grown up around these parts all my life and seen many changes to our area. Its a shame... Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it.

  • How lovely! I only wish I had a tape of my own family like this. I would of been 2 years old when this was done, it would of been fantastic to see all my aunties and uncles etc when they were in their prime. The cars, wow! Zephers! Thanks this has brought a tear or two to my eye.

  • Aah thanks for those nice comments, glad you enjoyed this. The only reason I have this footage is because my uncle ( the one getting married ) got himself into debt to buy the cine equipment in the first place, cost one hell of a lot back in 1967

People thought he was mad, and yet what family I have left now think this footage is like gold dust, he had foresight I reckon, bless him.... Photos are one thing, but actual moving pictures are entirely different all together. I think !! :-)

  • lol, iwasnt born for another 13 yrs,but still very interesting seeing some of the landmarks i still recognise, wont be long before most of it's ripped down and gone forever....

kinda sad but thats the way life goes i suppose.

  • Yes your right, then we will all be left wondering where it all went wrong... Thanks for watching.

  • The cars and mode of dress really brought back memories Excellant footage 5*

  • Thanks again Walter, this is my fav simply because it means a lot to me because they were all my family more or less.

  • Ah.....the Dora st I was born and raised in. Brilliant - don't everyone look young m8 seeing your grandad with dark hair lol! Hard to imagine that was over 40 years ago matey

  • I love this footage, I hadn't seen this till very recently. did you see me as a Paige Boy? ha ha, I can't believe how many of my family are no longer around after seeing this film, made me sad and I felt the need to go and speak to them all and say hello, if only I could eh? Dora St was another world in this day.

  • WALSALLADS CO UK BUY AND SELL ITEMS.

  • Hiya. This is such an emotive video for me as so much is familiar. The Police Station hasn't really changed at all. What music do you use on this? It really adds to the film. Thanks.

  • Thanks, glad you enjoyed. These were my uncles ( chap getting married ) films. I had them transferred to DVD and the chap who did them added the music because originally they were silent. It certainly is a very good choice of music I must admit. I have no idea what it is. The Police station is soon to be knocked down as far as Im aware, redevelopment and so on. Thanks for watching.

  • this is a nice video.. im 19 myself and never seen any footage of 60's early 70's england. its weird.. i was smiling through it like people seem'd to be more happy and more connected than people today.

thanks for giving me the opportunity to watch this :)

  • Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it. Yes life in general was very different to what we all see today. The street in this film looks quiet and yet today not so nice, too many cars and too many plastic doors and windows making houses all look the same... It's nice to look back !

  • This is fantastic stuff. I lived on Wolverhampton Road between 1977-2001 but live 50 miles away, so I'd love to see pre-dual carriageway material too.

  • Sorry I can't help you on the Wolverhampton Road footage...

  • 7.49 Eric Morecambe???

  • See what you mean ha ha, don't know who he is...

  • Dora street? wheres that its palfrey aint it? New Mills Street next to it.... if it is then thts New Mills Street Dora street round the corner

  • My mistake ws thinkin of dorthy street

  • Dorothy St is definitely in Palfrey and Dora is in the Pleck area in between Kingsley and Gower St.

  • There's something about those old cameras. So much more character. Just not the same with modern cameras, even though they take a perfect picture. You really capture a great sense of nostalgia and innocence with the old cameras. I was born at 142 Weston Road in 1967. Wish there was footage of round there. Thanks for posting your videos.

  • Thankyou. I know exactly what you mean, as we speak Im looking to buy a working cine projector to play these films on. It's taken me years to get these off my uncle, the guy getting married, & they are priceless now to me as around 80% of the people in these films are no longer with us......... Sadly !

  • Indeed, that's what makes em even more valueable. The fact that people ain't around. Seems very surreal I bet. I drove past that church a couple of times today and thought about it.

There is one road I'd love to see some footage of, before it became a duel carriageway. And that's Wolverhampton Road from J10 into town. Never even seen a photo let alone video.

  • Thats two of us because I haven't either.

Me and my mate used to drink in "The Bridge" as was back then. Can remember my dad filling his lorry up somewhere back up towards the top of the hill, think it's still a garage now, and it was single lanes then but have no actual memory unfirtunately.

  • This is fantastic. I know none of those people, yet it's so close to home. I drive up and down Green Lane about 10 times a day as part of my job. I've been searching for old clips of Walsall for years. And this is the year I was born. Great stuff. Just wish there was video of me as a kid.

  • Ah that was lovely, the music really made me feel quite sentimental. Loved the bit where the little child wouldn't hand over the gift

  • That is so good - 1967 for ordinary people captured perfectly. Nice car at the beginning - surely it's not just an run of the mill Hillman Minx is it - Singer Vogue?

  • Yes I think your right it is a Singer or even a Sunbeam maybe?? I dont know for sure. Yes I thought it was very good camera work. Glad you liked it. Thanks

  • geez they be over 40 years married mow!! good choice of music to go with it.

  • Quite an achievement by todays standards eh? I didn't choose the music, It was all done by the chap who transfered the cine film to dvd. Saying that Im well chuffed with the results. It's given a silent movie a certain depth and mood to it.

  • You've got the projector to work then.... Not a japanese car to be seen...

    Nice one

    Nigel

  • No I haven't not yet, still trying to source a very rare bulb for it. The film was transfered by someone else. Im well pleased with the results considering the age of the film. Know what you mean about the cars, didn't think of it like that. How times change eh? This film represents a very small slice of history, a priceless snapshot of life in 1967.
