I'd say he weighs roughly a pound, maybe less, which is normal for a Richardson ground squirrel. Texas is relatively lenient on keeping exotic pets like these.
I live in the Dallas area of Texas. There are ground squirrels native in most parts of Texas, especially the west. However, the species I have is from the northern plains and not from Texas.
