Heey, I want to get this phone but I don't really know if I should buy it. I really want an Android 5 inch phone and this seems to be the only one at the moment. is this a buy which will last for like 1.5 years from now or will it be old because of the hardware?

Just bought this last night. Switched from an EVO. (don't ask, long story, but loved my EVO) Waiting until the HTC Inspire drops then going back to HTC. I do like this dell 2.2 update coming in just a few more days I hope. If i do keep I know I'm gonna use a different home placement. This looks gizay.

Thank you for the great review. I like that the home screen rotates automatically unlike my HTC EVO. But like you, I don't like the Dell stage as well. I have a question though. My HTC EVO has the smart dialer, does this phone have it being a Froyo? If it doesn't, are there particular app that you know that could do this. I might go back to AT&T and Dell Streak is the only alternative for my HTC Evo.

Come on, give me stock Vanilla Android over these loud overlays anyday. Too much fragmentation and the UI suffers because of it. I'd rather have a Dell Streak that runs stock Froyo as opposed to any of these gimmick skins.

Yay portrait mode home screen. I know this is a pretty noob question, but assuming I get a streak unlocked. . which I don't know if I can. Can I do all this myself, I guess I'm not asking from a technical point of view, because I know android is open, but is there enough support from the dev community to make sure that I'm not stuck at the mercy of dell's update policies with old android builds? and can in fact go ahead and get a newer version that utlilizes the streak's massive screen.

@ymala1 You can purchase a Dell Streak running android 2.2 from Dell's website. And I'm not sure what the "doing it yourself" entails but all you need to do is youtube your technical questions. That's how I learned to jailbreak my iPod and iPhone back when I had them. Hopefully this helps

btw, why is my upline (where battery is) white and not black? and why cant i access the batery icon to see the percent of power? um.. and how to drag out those icons to turn off/on wi fi and stuff like that 1:22 ? :P

@DjDime92 I was using a theme with a black taskbar, the battery icon doesn't work like that, and that's just the standard power control widget.

There are some stuff i don't like about 2.2.. for example, why is there so much space between the icons?and my dell won't show full icon names.. rest of it is just the matter of habit, i assume.. love the live wallpaper tho :p

nice video- the Dell streak is a nice bit of kit. It's a shame it was hampered by the initial android 1.6 (now 2.2). It fits better in my pocket than the Galaxy Tab (not surprising) and is fun and practical for loads of things.

I just wish Dell (and others) would stick with mini usb connectors (or have it as an additional option like some nokias).

Stage UI is a good step for Dell. In my opinion, continuous improvement to make Stage UI more interactive and usable can make it standing out like the Sense UI.

I quite like the skin of your Streak too. Is that a kind of sticker??

BTW, can you drag the icon from one Stage to another by pushing beyond its own Stage like LauncherPro?

I actually installed DJ_Steve's 1.2 succesfully the other night. All went well. Problem is, StageUI looks much much snappier on yours, than on mine. Same version, same baseband and all, but looks slower. Any hints?

Curious, I tested Best Buy's display Streak v1.6 and was able to do multiple background for all the different home screens. I wonder if this UI is going to support this as well. Have you tried uploading a different/multiple backgrounds for the home screens?

@ippaimetaru I voided the warranty the first day the AT&T Streak came out (rooted and flashed new baseband/ROM), so no big deal. Plus, it's not hard to flash the stock baseband, ROM, and recovery image to get back to unrooted factory condition if necessary.

@ippaimetaru The phone is rediculously easy to break anyway. You're more likely to crack the screen before the phone has a hardware fault that is covered by warranty. If you buy something like this without insurance then you're an idiot.

@charlie861i Otter Box will protect it a lot better, plus they have the Gorilla Screen that has to amount for something if you also add the military grade scratch proofer to it that will add a little bit more security. Not saying it is unbreakable but you can add more protection to it.
