Best Bugs episode ever! Thanks for posting. I once read that this particular cartoon was created as a way to employ dozens of musicians from Europe who were refugees from World War II. After the war many of Europe's finest classical musicians immigrated to the U.S. Many of them ended up in Hollywood to earn money, playing the soundtracks to movies and cartoons. If you listen closely to many of the Looney Tunes cartoons you'll realize that they're full of the world's best classical music.
I kinda wanted to vote this down cuz the quality is so bad, but then I thought, is this really worse that watching it on my horribly shitty TV when I was 6?
Has to be my favourite of bugs for as long as I can remember. Helped put an appreciation and fascination with orchestral music into me. Love it, but can't resist....
When i was child this cartoon was my intrduction to opera and a love of classic music. It was funny, brilliant in colour and i took notice of the music and i was hooked. Thanks WB and the Bugs Bunny creators for this wonderful education. Oh and thanks for the upload j*
@GNDRIVE002 lol man, the music of the whole episode is based on the Ouverture from the Barber of Seville, an opera by Rossini.. Dont go looking for a snake-charmer sound flute-like instrument in the opera, tho :P
How do? Welcome to my shop, let me cut your mop, let me shave your crop Daintily, daintily Hey you!! Don't look so perplexed, why must you be waxed, can't you see you're next Yes you're next, you're so next How about a nice close shave Teach your whiskers to behave Lots of lather lots of soap Please hold still don't be a dope Now we're ready for the scraping There's no use to try escaping Yell & scream & rant & rave It's no use you need a shave (oh ouch ouch oh ouch oh oh ouch)
Bugs should've used the hair restorer on Elmer's head. Then he'd have real hair and not just a beard. I also loved Elmer as the bride. He could try out for La Cage Aux Folles.
@watercat1302 hahaha, "can't believe i tried to copy bugs bunny and messed around with my friends, luckily no one died"....dude that has me crackin up haha
@wowhead1 I was like, 5 years old, and I thought everything I saw at that time can be done in real life. My friends had extreme luck not to die while playing with me, and trust me, I'm not proud to tell you guys all this...
@watercat1302 No dude I feel ya, when I was a little fella, 5 - 10, I was pretty arrogant, ppl always told me I did stuff that ppl my age couldn't do so I also thought (along with many other things) that many cartoon/movie things I saw were indeed things I could pull off, even if others said I couldn't. I think that's why I found that such a hilarious comment cuz I can totally relate haha.
How about a nice close shave, teach your whiskers to behave, lots of lather, lots of soap please hold still don't be a dope. now we're ready for the scraping there's no use to try escaping! Yell&Scream&rant&rave it's no use you need a shave! There, you're nice and clean, although your face looks like it might have gone through a machine
I just realized, imagine if bugs used the hair restorer on his head instead, I bet elmer would never bother him again, likely feel indebted to him lol
Devolved? Because MILLIONS were exposed to classical music through a cartoon? No! Actually, it's a brilliant concept for letting those who in an earlier age would never have even been allowed into a theater to hear some of humanity's greatest music. I think this is brilliant.
@ieguy3 you didn't get what he meant, he means that we devolved since you don't see skits like this anymore, all the new bug bunny stuff is slapstick humor, nothing amazing like this. we've devolved to the point of not shwoing things this amazing anymore.
Getting kids to appreciate art is just like getting them to eat veggies. You sneak it into something they like and don't tell them it's there. Anyone who watched the old Bugs Bunny toons, got a couple of doses of opera and never knew it. When they hear it played in school, they suddenly realize how enjoyable it really is.
It's bullshit why this is "innapropriate" for kids today.
It involves attempts to kill (A RABBIT) with a gun, to play with (shave with) a sharp blade, and to DANGEROUSLY D: (ya fkin bullshit cut someones clothes apart. So now they show... idk even wtf they show for kids tv shows anymore, but it's terrible & mindless. Plus ofcourse the shitty music that's influenced now, this classical stuff is awesome.
@scunythescou................DID they! Holy Cow, and HOW! I've adored and been totally NUTS about Looney Tunes and Merry Melodies since I was a kid (I'm 50 now) and will NEVERRRRR stop loving them....and Mel Blanc, Chuck Mckimson (director) all the other directors, artists and everyone who had a hand in creating these ETERNAL CLASSICS. Warner brothers had a TRULY magnificent, WORLD-CLASS orchestra for decades...as good as almost ANY major orchestra anywhere in the entire WORLD.
@BigHrdB Agreed, and while they were stood down, Leon Schlesinger told Termite Terrace they had free use of them along with Carl Stalling.
While Disney were doing stuff with small groups on the soundtrack, Warner 'toons had a 90 piece orchestra... and Treg Brown doing sound effects. Carl and Treg between them originated most of the audio tropes used in animation... pizzicato during creeping - that was Carl's...
Mostly based on the music from Rossini's "The Barber of Seville" with a visual joke nod towards Mozart's "Marriage of Figaro" at the end. What I like best about both this cartoon and "What's Opera Doc?" are the imaginativeand very operatic 'set' designs.
@binasarah3 Take a chill pill. People have been claiming that we've been devolving for millennia. Classical music wasn't used in every cartoon back then, and is still used today for a lot of things.
@binasarah3 yea tbh i think my love for classical music today was born out of these cartoons... its like all these fantastic pieces of music were ingrained into my head so when i hear them now they sound so familiar. I remember hearing Largo al factotum for all of 2 seconds in the episode and recognizing the music like 10 years later.
@binasarah3 I disagree... I never watched cartoons like this as a kid, but I absolutely adore classical music. People evolve, and although videos such as this one are great, it's certainly not the only way to be introduced to classical music.
