i went to pet a shop and they mistakingly give me a tabpole in the bag with the feeder fish i bought.. umm how do i care care of it?? it is really small in size.
@TexazTru separate it from the feeder fish first because they will either harass it or make it sick, then put it it its own tank with shallow water, let the tank be 3/4 or 2/3 shaded give a few hiding places change the water often, an easy way is to take out 1/3 of the water and replace with clean water, use dechlorinated water ONLY! THEY ARE VERY SENSITIVE TO BAD WATER, and feed it boiled lettuce or crushed algae every day or so
@webcasey1 no, this is definitely a bull frog tadpole. I've raised bully tads several times. Even after they morph into frogs, the juveniles continue to have spots for a while too. Then, as they grow, the spots generally go away. As someone else on here commented, its camoflauge for them to protect them. As tadpoles and young, small frogs, they are an easy source of food for many animals.
My friend Daniel used to have a bunch of these last summer! We would keep them up in a loft his dad made in his shed, and we would bring our other frogs we caught up there too. Too bad he was evicted out of his place, he was awesome. I love tadpoles!!!
@ng31200 freshly boiled spinach and lettuce, crushed rabbit pellets work too and are more convenient. when they start to grow their from legs, they will stop feeding and start to absorb their tail as food.
My children just caught a tadpole that looks like this (no legs yet). It is the biggest tadpole I have ever seen. We would love to watch it grow. What do you feed it/how do you care for it? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
@SheSlowButSheGo Basically the same as fish as far as care. For food you can use the algae pellets that they have in pet stores for food. Then just sit back and enjoy the wonder of nature.
I have a question, hopefully someone can answer it. I bought some tadpoles, but when I got home I noticed they have no eyes, both of them and I'm wondering if anyone knows what kind they maybe, I called the pet store I got them from and even thou I was on the phone I can tell they shrugged their shoulders to the question. So can anyone help?
@ChiTwnCaliVet what is your question about? the tadpoles species or whether they might be blind...? didn't they (the pet store) tell you the species ?
@krippadonna help yourself to a fuck in science book cause you're talkin like a retard right now. Tadpoles are frog larvae. They live in water because they haven't developed lungs yet, and later on, tadpoles sprout legs, develop lungs and go onto land. Frogs continue to live semiaquatic lives but can breathe air
@samubabe101 Remember that tadpoles are frogs in metamorphosis and frogs are amphibians and all amphibian animals feed on insects or on the dirt in the water as you can see 1:21 he is feeding, I hope you understand.
@Zacattackzak leopard frog tadpoles are a lot smaller than bullfrog tads. This one is definitely a bully tad. I've raised several myself and they all looked like this.
Even after the tad morphs into a frog, the bullfrog juvenile has spots for a while.
Its head looks like a sock puppet.

@MikeOnken1 Actually, they develop lungs a few days after they hatch. If they had no lungs at this stage, you'd be seeing gills.
