I agree with everything Tundrachild1, and Lindiortega.... It's the first thing I noticed no toys nothing is colorful or bright, I bet no one ever goes in there to comfort or pet them.... I just feels so bad I wish i was there to change it!
I agree with tundrachild1, There are no toys for these birds.. they need to be stimulated in their cages if they are not getting let out daily. Also there are too many in one cage.. if they are gonna put that many in a cage together they should get a larger cage for them all. I hope they screen the people adopting these birds. Their immune systems are so sensitive, teflon can kill them as well as scented candles and oil burners among many other things.
Why are there no toys in any of the over-crowded cages? Without enrichment these birds lead miserable lives. How is it possible that the "birds are enjoying the latest addition of tropical plants in the room"? Does the staff really believe that the birds get enjoyment by looking at plants they can't even touch? Just another example of the THS not having a clue what they are doing sadly.
Well the bird's situation is better than what the SPCA of Suncoast recently did with their birds (no sunlight, food or attention). But can I scream "why no enrichment?" Branches and twigs are great, and are free, so are phonebooks, paper bags, and cardboard boxes. Corn husk, unbleached coffee filters, wicker balls, and shredded newspaper (put ontop of the cage to be pulled through) are all cheap toy making items. Birds don't just socialize they search for food and play too. Please consider toys!
The only issue I have with THS and their bird adoption is that I know they have birds but I wish we could see some on the website to await adoption. Also THS needs to warn all the bird lovers out there about cliping their bird's wings, the Lost and Found for birds is ridiculous especially during summer.
