ali y su técnica rope a dope, contra las cuerdas cansa al oponente dejandose golpear, mueve su cuerpo a favor del golpe para que el impacto no lastime, simplemente lo cansa hasta que ve su oportunidad ali es magnifico...

@millionminimagicmice that's because deep down even commentators liked Ali and hid their sympathy as they thought Ali was the underdog in this fight. Once things turned the other way around, their happiness was more seen
People still think Ali has brain damage after going public with Parkinson's syndrome almost 30 years ago. I don't understand the ignorance of some people. Maybe they just don't know basic medicine or understand that Parkinson's syndrome is a motor skills problem. His mental capacity is %100 (for a 70 year old man)
Ali had a jaw of stone! Even though it had been broken by Norton and he'd been knocked down, he was NEVER knocked out and the only TKO was by Holmes, ten or twelve years past his prime! All the fights in the 70's were fights Ali wasn't even CLOSE to his masterful skill of the 60's and he relied on smarts to beat some of the greatest Heavyweights to ever lace em' up!
Really sad. Ali won but he took way too many blows to the head. This fight started the brain damage. You can see several times that Ali is out on his feet. Ali said the rope a dope was his only defense because Foreman was way too strong to go toe to toe
@dlc85007 In his prime, Tyson couldn't k.o Tillis, Green, Smith or Tucker, then got k.o'd by Douglas. Ali had more guts and resourcefulness; when Tyson struggled he didn't have the character or flexibility to win through, but resorted to biting or lost heart. Tyson is easily the most widely overrated fighter in history, just cos his ko's were spectacular. Tyson never beat a true great in prime. 1.Ali 2.Louis 3.Johnson 4. Marciano- all well clear of Tyson
***DID YOU KNOW*** In the famous Rumble in the Jungle in 1975, Muhammed Ali demanded a 19 foot square ring against George Foreman in order for more space and Oh boy, the ring size went in favour of Ali.. Ali used the rope a dope strategy in hopes of Foreman throwing hard punches and becoming arm weary and it worked.
I'd say Ali got lucky in one sense, and that is that his parkinson's syndrome was so slow in progressing. Seems like Michael J Fox's case progressed much faster and more severe than Ali's. Either way though it's too bad science can't atleast come up with a drug to prevent the symptoms from worsening..if you had the symptoms only mildly and they never got bad it would be ok.

@Frannas85 You mean the rumor that Dundee allegedly loosened the ropes before the fight? Its all just mere myth and false accusations of course. Even if Dundee wanted to do such a thing he wouldn't be able to get away with it. Plus, no one in Ali's corner knew what Ali was doing when he began his rope-a-dope, Dundee and Bundini were yelling at Ali to stop laying on the ropes, they were shocked at Ali's tactic. Foreman made a millions false excuses for this loss, he admitted to it.
The electricity I feel when watching this fight just from my laptop is indescribable, a kind I've never felt before in any sort of sporting event, or musical concert, or anywhere before ever, (besides the Spirit of the Lord), but outside of the Lord Himself, that kind of magical excitement and pure joy that I could feel in the air there that night, is greater than anything else I've experienced. Now just imagine being there in person! Truly a special fight, and truly a special athlete and man.

This was the greatest and most significant fight of Ali's career. He was at his second peak in my opinion. All the rust from the layoff was finally knocked off, he had fixed his weaknesses from the battles with norton and Frazier. After this fight he coasted until Manilla 1 year later which is,in my opinion, when his Parkinson's emerged. He was still better in 67 though, and would have been better without the layoff
@IASOU2005 Yeah I agree. What also didn't help was that Ali was taking too many priced fights in such a short amount of time...I mean look at his title defenses he had in just ONE year, he took out the top contenders such as Wepner, Lyle, Bugner and Frazier ALL in 1975. @TheOverfiendDj LOL at 'clinching'. Muhammad Ali showed in this fight that not only could he take a punch, but he could change his normal 'dance' routine and let a power puncher like Foreman punch himself out, Watch round 5 for a master class in boxing. Who else do you know who could take 2 minutes of Foremans punches then dazzle Foreman with lightning combos, then wink at the commentators, as if to say 'I got this big bad monster right where I want him'?

He no longer follow Elijah Muhammad though, the leader of Nation of Islam (which apparently was not following real teachings of Islam), but fortunately he now follows the real Muhammad pbuh. by the Holy Book, Al-Quran.
@lukefielding yeah, but foreman was drained and had no strength, he wouldn't have been able to protect hmself from the blows, as we saw when he went down. Ali was still fresh as a daisy. if you listen, they actually say the fight was stopped, not that foreman was counted out
Ali a great fighter, one of the best but not the greatest. His great fights foreman,Frazier, liston were against punchers with not the greatest boxing skills, the people with skills were way past their prime. Ali would've struggled against Holmes and lewis is their primes.People of the press have made him into this icon 'the greatest',but let's get real,a great fighter top 10 p4p maybe top 5 but certainly not the greatest.
@TheOverfiendDj Look out guys we have a badass here! You think you're big making jokes about a condition and also a sporting great. Come back and say something when it is relevant and you actually get somewhere in life. Jealous troll.
@aspoonofcheerios I dont think im badass at all but thanks. You dont give a shit about anybody else with life altering conditions so stop trying to pretend you care about ali or understand what its like to be in his shoes.
@TheOverfiendDj Well now you're talking shite, just because I've called you out don't try and bring me down to your level. I will never claim to understand what it's like for anyone else but I do care about people so don't come out with utter rubbish. Give everyone the respect they deserve, it's the least you can do instead of hiding away insulting people who are clearly better than you.
@aspoonofcheerios Why don't you just piss off and leave me alone mr perfect my opinion means nothing because i am nobody of importance. My opinion means absolutely nothing so i have no idea why you are so concerned.
5th round makes me happy as hell man. Foreman just seems to forget his training or something man, mid going crazy trying to figure out how to beat such a cocky and sure fighter. Sat on the ropes because he *wanted* to be. Control.
I'm not sure who punched harder- Ali or Holmes. I do know though that Holmes is a lil punch drunk from time to time thinking he could have beat Ali at his peak. Holmes an Ali didn't start working together til 71-72...Ali by then was on borrowed time for a fighter. Ali might have knocked Holmes' mouthpiece out with the first punch and cut his eyes up in ruthless fashion.
This was the fight that proved once & for all that Muhammad Ali is The Greatest of All Time hands down. I can't understand how anybody could say different. Foreman punched more than he ever did in his life & Ali knocked him with ONE combo.
The Greatest of All Time without contest is Muhammad Ali.
Ali is in amazing shape for this fight. They billed him at 217 for this fight but could he be lighter? He looks like he might be under 216 according to Joe Frazier...
@vladiator100 Ali weighed 216 1/2 (which is tremendous shape) while Foreman weighed 220 lbs for the fight. I think the scales and the people who weigh the fighters would know more about that than Joe Frazier lol. And fighters normally weigh more by the time they fight each other. I am not being a crusader as Joe is one of my favourite fighters and conquered quality fighters but he did come away with some strange statements from time to time. Holyfield weighed 215 for Tyson I.
@TheOverfiendDj loool pussy yeah u little ..... ,, ur strong cuz you're behind the screen but when i bring my little sister she will take u a knock down u ....
@TheOverfiendDj And how do you figure that one out lol? Foreman was 40-0-0 with 37 knockouts heading into this fight whereas Ali had only lost two fights in 40 odd and had avenged those two losses he suffered. Ali also won his first 31 fights while beating fighters like Sonny Liston (Ali won their second fight in 1 round) and Oscar Bonavena (Ali was the first and only fighter to stop Bonavena inside the distance. Ali was also the first person to floor and Foreman and only person to beat....
@TheOverfiendDj ....Foreman (and only fighter) to beat Foreman inside the scheduled distance. Ali also beat very good fighters like Jimmy Young, Ron Lyle, (first person to beat Lyle inside the distance; Foreman floored Foreman twice in 1976 in a great battle before losing in 5) Earnie Shavers, Ken Norton, Floyd Patterson, Jerry Quarry, Jimmy Ellis, Cleveland Williams, Henry Cooper, Joe Bugner, Joe Frazier etc (only the second person to stop Frazier inside the distance; the other being Foreman).
@aspoonofcheerios Should i fucking count the amount of times ALI grabs foreman around the back of the head every time he is getting punched against the ropes?
@TheOverfiendDj You call him a pussy fighter based on a tactical fight from his older days. Have you ever seen his fights with Frazier? I would like to see you, or anyone for that matter, take the same beating as him and still knock out a world class fighter.
@TheOverfiendDj hahahah what the heck are you telling??Look at him now.!!!!Muhammad Ali is 70 years old.!!!Do you know in what shape you will be at 70???
God damn am I watching a clinching match or a boxing match? Why don't they penalize that shit? He's put him in a headlock like 6 times and I'm like 2 minutes in
@jembozzo He is exhausted because he was throwing big looping punches which was uncharacteristic of George as he looked so good when he destroyed Wepner, Chuvalo, Frazier and Norton prior to battling Ali. He (Foreman) just thought he was going to blow Ali away with minimal ease after the way Ali struggled against Frazier and Norton in earlier fights. If George had fought at a more measured pace he might have had a better chance of claiming victory although Ali very good in those fight....
@jembozzo ....excluding Foreman's poor battle plan. But Ali is such a difficult fighter to work out ie if Foreman fought conservately there is a chance Ali would have thoroughly outpointed him and if Foreman went wild - which he more or less did - then he would be worn out and then knocked out. Therefore it is a catch 22 scenario for Foreman - if he fights conservatively he loses wide points decision and if he goes for it 100 per cent he gets knocked out. And you have to remember that we....
@jembozzo ....never saw the absolute best of Ali as he was stripped of his title as a conscientious objector while approaching his peak. If he hadn't had that setback then he might have never lost a fight. But we could be here until doomsday discussing this as everyone has their own opinion lol. Besides styles make fights as Foreman decimated Frazier and Norton who beat Ali and then Foreman loses miserably to Ali while losing practically every round. And Earnie Shavers also annihilated....
@jembozzo ....Norton (in one round) but also lost to Ali. Plus Liston would have probably also destroyed Norton and look what Ali did to Liston in their two fights. Ali also beat Frazier inside the distance was wasn't an easy thing to do despite Foreman beating Frazier in two rounds. But Foreman was a harder puncher than Ali whereas Ali was a better all round fighter who was better over longer fights. Norton and Frazier were also better over long fights than Foreman at that time but never....
@jembozzo ....got the opportunity to prove it as they only lasted 2 rounds a piece against Foreman. Although George would have had an excellent chance of beating Ali in a rematch in my opinion but never got the opportunity hence Foreman's lackadaisical display against Young while losing his second fight and then retiring. We arguably never got to see the best of Foreman either as he retired at 28 uninterested in boxing. The 1973-74 version of Foreman would have destroyed Young although Young....
@jembozzo ....was a very skilled and crafty boxer who I am a fan of by the way. To be fair Young would have given anyone fits over a long fight as he proved against Ali, Norton, Shavers (the second time), Lyle and Foreman. The best way to avoid a frustrating night against Young is to get him out of there early as Shavers (in 1 round the first time) and Cooney (albeit on a cut) did and so would Foreman if he was even remotely motivated lol. Under different circumstances Young could hold wins....
@jembozzo ....over Ali, Norton, Lyle Foreman and Shavers while being crowned undisputed champion. But Young had to make do with wins over Foreman and Lyle and a disputed draw with Shavers while losing decisions to Ali and Norton (a lot of people think he beat Ali and Norton as well). A lot of people also think a fully motivated Foreman who had beaten Ali in Zaire or had beaten Ali in a rematch would have also destroyed Larry Holmes pretty earlier. But who knows as Holmes was very....
@jembozzo ....impressive at his best despite his close calls against 34 year old Norton, Snipes and Shavers. But when you see the way the undefeated 1973-74 version of Foreman went through great fighters like Frazier and Norton it is very hard to envisage Holmes being able to withstand that kind of onslaught by Foreman. Okay Ali survived it in Zaire but Ali can take more punishment than Holmes and is a little bit stronger (physically) and a little bit quicker than Holmes as well. And another....
@jembozzo ....thing is Foreman would not have fought the kind of foolish fight against Holmes that he fought against Ali therefore I could see Holmes being in all sorts of trouble before being stopped in 4 or 5 rounds, maybe less. Foreman had a very good jab when he used it. Frazier said Foreman;s jab was piston like. Foreman just neglected his jab against Ali but he wouldn't have did that against Larry as he would have shown Larry more respect, plus it would have probably taken....
@jembozzo ....place in a better environment than Zaire which would have been a big advantage to Foreman as the heat as well as the biased crowd got to him in Zaire. If Foreman had fought Holmes in America then I can only see one winner to be honest especially if it is a 1973-74 version of Foreman who thought he was indestructible and could knockout the moon lol. But we will never know. Have to give Holmes his due though as he was a very skilled fighter who beat some incredible fighters....
@jembozzo ....like Bonecrusher Smith, Tim Witherspoon, Gerry Cooney, Ken Norton, Earnie Shavers etc. If I had to make a prediction between Foreman and Holmes at their best then I would say Foreman to win early or Holmes to win by points decision or late stoppage. But I just can't see anyone in boxing history past, present or future knocking out the 1973-74 version of Foreman besides Muhammad Ali and that is why Ali is probably regarded as the best....because of that win over Foreman.
He did not get up at the count of 8. The announcer counts 7, then he says "gets up on a knee", then he mistakenly resumed counting at 8. At that point, his count should've been 9. Also, he started counting at 3 after George had been down for 5 seconds. My guess is that he picked up the count of 3 when the referee looked to the side, and instead of starting at 4 he counted 3 again. With my logic, true count was 10 when he said 8. Regardless, George was down for 11 or 12 seconds (51:55-52:06-07)

Foreman lost more to fatigue than to Ali! And the referee was also kind of dishonest. Anyway, it was a great fight!

I do feel that mike Tyson put Holmes away very nicely for Ali in 88.
IASOU2005 1 month ago
I'm not sure who punched harder- Ali or Holmes. I do know though that Holmes is a lil punch drunk from time to time thinking he could have beat Ali at his peak. Holmes an Ali didn't start working together til 71-72...Ali by then was on borrowed time for a fighter. Ali might have knocked Holmes' mouthpiece out with the first punch and cut his eyes up in ruthless fashion.

Ali is in amazing shape for this fight. They billed him at 217 for this fight but could he be lighter? He looks like he might be under 216 according to Joe Frazier...
vladiator100 1 month ago
@vladiator100 Ali weighed 216 1/2 (which is tremendous shape) while Foreman weighed 220 lbs for the fight. I think the scales and the people who weigh the fighters would know more about that than Joe Frazier lol. And fighters normally weigh more by the time they fight each other. I am not being a crusader as Joe is one of my favourite fighters and conquered quality fighters but he did come away with some strange statements from time to time. Holyfield weighed 215 for Tyson I.

t00155654q8 1 month ago
@TheOverfiendDj And how do you figure that one out lol? Foreman was 40-0-0 with 37 knockouts heading into this fight whereas Ali had only lost two fights in 40 odd and had avenged those two losses he suffered. Ali also won his first 31 fights while beating fighters like Sonny Liston (Ali won their second fight in 1 round) and Oscar Bonavena (Ali was the first and only fighter to stop Bonavena inside the distance. Ali was also the first person to floor and Foreman and only person to beat....
dave10172 1 month ago
@TheOverfiendDj ....Foreman (and only fighter) to beat Foreman inside the scheduled distance. Ali also beat very good fighters like Jimmy Young, Ron Lyle, (first person to beat Lyle inside the distance; Foreman floored Foreman twice in 1976 in a great battle before losing in 5) Earnie Shavers, Ken Norton, Floyd Patterson, Jerry Quarry, Jimmy Ellis, Cleveland Williams, Henry Cooper, Joe Bugner, Joe Frazier etc (only the second person to stop Frazier inside the distance; the other being Foreman).
dave10172 1 month ago
@TheOverfiendDj And how did you come to this conclusion?

@aspoonofcheerios Should i fucking count the amount of times ALI grabs foreman around the back of the head every time he is getting punched against the ropes?

@TheOverfiendDj You call him a pussy fighter based on a tactical fight from his older days. Have you ever seen his fights with Frazier? I would like to see you, or anyone for that matter, take the same beating as him and still knock out a world class fighter.

i don't understand why george is so quickly tired ! strange ! 8 rounds is few for this guy
jembozzo 1 month ago
@jembozzo He is exhausted because he was throwing big looping punches which was uncharacteristic of George as he looked so good when he destroyed Wepner, Chuvalo, Frazier and Norton prior to battling Ali. He (Foreman) just thought he was going to blow Ali away with minimal ease after the way Ali struggled against Frazier and Norton in earlier fights. If George had fought at a more measured pace he might have had a better chance of claiming victory although Ali very good in those fight....
dave10172 1 month ago
@jembozzo ....excluding Foreman's poor battle plan. But Ali is such a difficult fighter to work out ie if Foreman fought conservately there is a chance Ali would have thoroughly outpointed him and if Foreman went wild - which he more or less did - then he would be worn out and then knocked out. Therefore it is a catch 22 scenario for Foreman - if he fights conservatively he loses wide points decision and if he goes for it 100 per cent he gets knocked out. And you have to remember that we....
dave10172 1 month ago
@jembozzo ....never saw the absolute best of Ali as he was stripped of his title as a conscientious objector while approaching his peak. If he hadn't had that setback then he might have never lost a fight. But we could be here until doomsday discussing this as everyone has their own opinion lol. Besides styles make fights as Foreman decimated Frazier and Norton who beat Ali and then Foreman loses miserably to Ali while losing practically every round. And Earnie Shavers also annihilated....
dave10172 1 month ago
@jembozzo ....Norton (in one round) but also lost to Ali. Plus Liston would have probably also destroyed Norton and look what Ali did to Liston in their two fights. Ali also beat Frazier inside the distance was wasn't an easy thing to do despite Foreman beating Frazier in two rounds. But Foreman was a harder puncher than Ali whereas Ali was a better all round fighter who was better over longer fights. Norton and Frazier were also better over long fights than Foreman at that time but never....
dave10172 1 month ago
@jembozzo ....got the opportunity to prove it as they only lasted 2 rounds a piece against Foreman. Although George would have had an excellent chance of beating Ali in a rematch in my opinion but never got the opportunity hence Foreman's lackadaisical display against Young while losing his second fight and then retiring. We arguably never got to see the best of Foreman either as he retired at 28 uninterested in boxing. The 1973-74 version of Foreman would have destroyed Young although Young....
dave10172 1 month ago
@jembozzo ....was a very skilled and crafty boxer who I am a fan of by the way. To be fair Young would have given anyone fits over a long fight as he proved against Ali, Norton, Shavers (the second time), Lyle and Foreman. The best way to avoid a frustrating night against Young is to get him out of there early as Shavers (in 1 round the first time) and Cooney (albeit on a cut) did and so would Foreman if he was even remotely motivated lol. Under different circumstances Young could hold wins....
dave10172 1 month ago
@jembozzo ....over Ali, Norton, Lyle Foreman and Shavers while being crowned undisputed champion. But Young had to make do with wins over Foreman and Lyle and a disputed draw with Shavers while losing decisions to Ali and Norton (a lot of people think he beat Ali and Norton as well). A lot of people also think a fully motivated Foreman who had beaten Ali in Zaire or had beaten Ali in a rematch would have also destroyed Larry Holmes pretty earlier. But who knows as Holmes was very....
dave10172 1 month ago
@jembozzo ....impressive at his best despite his close calls against 34 year old Norton, Snipes and Shavers. But when you see the way the undefeated 1973-74 version of Foreman went through great fighters like Frazier and Norton it is very hard to envisage Holmes being able to withstand that kind of onslaught by Foreman. Okay Ali survived it in Zaire but Ali can take more punishment than Holmes and is a little bit stronger (physically) and a little bit quicker than Holmes as well. And another....
dave10172 1 month ago
@jembozzo ....thing is Foreman would not have fought the kind of foolish fight against Holmes that he fought against Ali therefore I could see Holmes being in all sorts of trouble before being stopped in 4 or 5 rounds, maybe less. Foreman had a very good jab when he used it. Frazier said Foreman;s jab was piston like. Foreman just neglected his jab against Ali but he wouldn't have did that against Larry as he would have shown Larry more respect, plus it would have probably taken....
dave10172 1 month ago
@jembozzo ....place in a better environment than Zaire which would have been a big advantage to Foreman as the heat as well as the biased crowd got to him in Zaire. If Foreman had fought Holmes in America then I can only see one winner to be honest especially if it is a 1973-74 version of Foreman who thought he was indestructible and could knockout the moon lol. But we will never know. Have to give Holmes his due though as he was a very skilled fighter who beat some incredible fighters....
dave10172 1 month ago
@dave10172 if foreman had fought...if foreman had fought in america...bla bla!
"If the grandma had a dick, she would be a grandpa!"
nazirdjon 1 month ago
@jembozzo ....like Bonecrusher Smith, Tim Witherspoon, Gerry Cooney, Ken Norton, Earnie Shavers etc. If I had to make a prediction between Foreman and Holmes at their best then I would say Foreman to win early or Holmes to win by points decision or late stoppage. But I just can't see anyone in boxing history past, present or future knocking out the 1973-74 version of Foreman besides Muhammad Ali and that is why Ali is probably regarded as the best....because of that win over Foreman.
dave10172 1 month ago
@dave10172 and that win against the hardest puncher in boxing history, earnie shavers
nightride18 1 month ago
He did not get up at the count of 8. The announcer counts 7, then he says "gets up on a knee", then he mistakenly resumed counting at 8. At that point, his count should've been 9. Also, he started counting at 3 after George had been down for 5 seconds. My guess is that he picked up the count of 3 when the referee looked to the side, and instead of starting at 4 he counted 3 again. With my logic, true count was 10 when he said 8. Regardless, George was down for 11 or 12 seconds (51:55-52:06-07)
