  • This was going to be my intro to the Georgia state of mind when I was going to live there in March 1988. It's a lot more sublime than living in the environs of Ft. Benning/Columbus, GA I tellya.

  • "We're better best to rearrange." A song for our times I think...

  • Back in the day - when R.E.M. Rocked! Great track from their best LP

  • their best record "document"

  • @4yules Well, no, if anything it's their weakest. New Adventures was their best

  • great video and song. cant find the remastered one...has the one that really blasts the horn section for this song...totally incredible!!!!!

  • @crisnboots.. You said I was your soulmate!!

  • GREAT BAND! YOU'LL NEVER DIE! MISS YOU!!!

  • thanks michael, peter, mike, bill. thanks for the great music.

  • Document - Their best album IMHO. I think they lost their way a bit after AFTP. However they were a great band whose music will continue to be enjoyed for decades...

  • three people will be worked to death.

    Thumbs up if you agree!

  • My fave REM song...the version on Eponymous with the horn section kicks ass.

  • Take away football sunday and you would finally have dictatorship of the proletariat.

  • One of their best ever.

  • yes worksong :-)

  • Rolling Stone once called REM "The hippest band in America". I feel that REM has the sweetlest melodies with the most thoughtful lyrics since the Beatles., with only Morrisey as even close. I'm interested to hear what you Brittish youth think.

  • @brucetrueasblue Couldn't agree more.

  • One of REMs few songs with a strong drum presence.

  • @zemog311 Yeah, I love the drum sounds on "Document"

  • wicked as all hell! now that was REM!

  • This song should be dedicated to the US Navy Seals Team 6. This is their finest of hours!

  • I told the priest,

'Don't count on any second coming'

God got his ass kicked the first time he came down here slumming.

He had the balls to come

    the gall to die

    and then forgive us

    No I don't wonder why,

I wondder what he thought it would get us.

  • America's finest hours were 1.) Washington's crossing of the Delaware on Christmas Night, 1776, so as to surprise & defeat the fearsome Hessians back during the darkest & most precarious days of the Revolution!

2.) Dec. of 1941 till September 1945, when America's direct involvement in WW2 forever changed the course of that seminal, World spanning conflict & history itself, allowing the USA to emerge as the most powerful nation of all time!

3.) July of 1969, when we put this MAN ON THE MOON!

  • @sxlfkta hhhhmmmmm dont forget about us brits!!! you may be one of the most powerful nations but we have the most highly trained and dedicated soldiers on the planet.......FACT.......

  • @MrJaylonsdale I love and appreciate my British brethren but that statement is not fact. I love you guys anyways.

  • @sxlfkta and nothing since then

  • Fucking ads.

  • @Batman8657 meh!

  • One of their best tunes!

  • Stupid ad ought to at least match the volume of the song.

  • Loved this album. This song dominates.

  • this track is classic... great harmonies, great drums <3

    not all 80s music sucked

  • som excelente dizer mais oq

  • I miss this album, this song. I miss these years of great music. I don't miss Paula Abdul.

  • I am so fucking happy right now!!!! i've been looking for this song for a year!!!!!

  • wow. lots of impassioned comments. Simply, I don't like this VEVO corporate, parental presence on youtube so I'll continue to enjoy this great song elsewhere.

  • @MsMiguel70 He said, on a website run by a huge, immensely profitable corporation.

  • Old REM kicked ass. I can't listen to anything post-Green, but this is awesome.

  • @fishbowlwoman automatic for the people rules!

  • Quite a few people will not 'get' all of R.E.M.'s songs such as this because this song is political. To appreciate this song one needs to not only be a music lover but also to be able to understand music on a higher level. How many songs can we say about that today?

  • i wish this song was more popular than it is. If it were, more people woud do right in this world.

  • awesome

  • I admire the venerability of wanting to work towards the common good, but socializing our economic system will NOT accomplish this. At first socialism works, until the rich get sick of paying the way for the poor. Granted, some of the poor couldn't help but being poor, but a majority of them are there for a reason.

  • Hahaha! You believe in a deity!

  • Exactly

  • Umm, don't know how to break this to you. God, assuming he even exists, isn't about love at all. Read the your Bible again.

  • @pvogl88 But they won't love each other. They'll take all their greedy hearts can get and spit on you. Recent events bear that out spectacularly.

  • I don't think you understand much about economics at all based on your posting. Try cracking open a few text books pal

  • the reason being that they were born poor?

the notion that the rich pay the way for the poor coupled with the assertion that they are somehow entitled to profit from the toil of others is skewed and tragic. Socialism is a classless system, there are no rich. It doesn't work and it's your fault.

  • @thehenchcroft The rich become rich by the labor of the poor. They become rich at the toil of the poor. Is that more moral than vice-versa? The notion that the rich will act in a moral fashion has been proven wrong endless times throughout history over and over and over. Government regulation is necessary to prevent people from exploiting each other. Every law we have is a form of government regulation designed to keep people from exploiting each other. I like the rule of law.

  • @pvogl88 Your first comment contradicts your second. You acknowledge that the rich are not willing to treat others with love and compassion and will stop doing it. Your second comment states that only if people will do this will capitalism work. Which is it?

  • To the idiots who thumbs-downed my earlier comment, you're morons. This song is fucking cool.

  • Michael Stipe never wears a shirt.

  • Insightful.

  • This song is freaking rad.

  • Comment removed

  • The secret is having a goal in mind for your work. If your values are capitalist by default as opposed to working toward the greater good of sharing so everyone has enough...

  • Workers of the world unite!!!! Socialize America!!!! Our Finest Hour.
