When i saw it in London, they sang it with a little bit of an American accent and it sounded better i think. Farst and larst just doesn't sound right (and also pretty posh).
the english accents really annoy me! i know it's oz so they don't have a specific accent but i just think it sounds better with an american accent, anyone else agree?? don't take this the wrong way, i'm english too lol
@westcliffsucks I'm not sure whether it's actually better with American accents, or if it's just that we're used to it with an American accents, so it just sounds different and not quite right in English accents. Maybe if it started off West End, then went Broadway we'd think it was better the other way round? I kind of think that's the same reason people say Idina and Kristen were the best - because they were the first ones so anyone else just isn't the same... who knows?! :)
His riff is amazing, he has a great versatile singing voice as well especially when you hear him on his album to when he performs in Rock of Ages like he is currently doing.
He did this riff with Kerry Ellis at their last performance and it was far superior to this. Their voices blended so much better. I think Oliver Tompsett has one of the greatest musical theatre voices of this time. Can't wait for his new album.!!!
Oliver Tompsett was my first Fiyero and I certainly don't remember him singing that note when I went to see it the first time! Maybe he added it in later... :)
OMG!!!! I just dropped dead!!! Oliver is sooo amazing!!!!!!!! I can't believe the audience was silent!!!! I woulda been all like OLI I LOOOOVE YOU!!!!!!!!
well, I always cry during a few parts and scenes from wicked, but ALAYM had lost its charm for me cause I got used to the perfection of Idina Menzel and Norbert Leo Butz...til I heard that boy's riff, my eyes filled with tears! this play means a lot to mean!
Holy God he is sooooo amazing! I LOVE LOVE him as Fiyero. Saw him live and he took my breath away! And he's GORGEOUS in person. Like, oh my God. I so wished I could have gone back to London to see him again. Love you Oliver. <3
i love this Fiyero, however not a fan of this Elphaba. She sounds to witchy and kind of ruins this for me, but this Fiyero, holy cow! i like him a lot!
@zaitesushion haha i know! but like, it just doesnt sound that great to me, and i dont want to get into an argument about it, so please dont take anything personaly! She is still a good singer! Obviously she has to be a good singer to play the roll. maby its just the accent, idk. I jus think that on this song and ones like DG and TWAI she shouldnt sound Witchy but more normal because she isnt a witch really, and then she like turns into a witch in NGD
@alwaysand4everwicked I get what you're saying. She kind of goes back and forth, she has moments where she sounds good and others where you go "Huh?" like she's forcing it through her nose. I don't know, she's not the best, but she's not the worst.
This is the best recording I've heard of this song, I used to think it was one of her weakest songs but she sounds so beautiful here. I don't think their voices blend very well sadly, and sometimes sounds messy. This is a nice version.

amandarines1979 1 year ago
@amandarines1979 its a deviation from the written tune, improvised by the performer - for example 1:19, 1:50 :)
