  • Such an awesome video. Very nice tutorial!!!

  • I think you can't learn enough about lightning, big thanks to you

  • him that is so nice please can you make tutorial how to add the the music video in final cut

  • sooo how much would all this cost???

  • I want to do a long winded explination as to why and how this is helping, but I'd rather just say,.. Thanks!

  • Great light set up play

;-) awesome imagination to use just what you have on location, apart from the bring with you light kit, of course

  • i recon if you shot those little lights seperately from your main action you could use a luma key to get rid of the cables that hold them together and only have the lights showing. it would be tricky to match the movement and to key it properly but it could be worth a shot!

  • Thanks a million.. SoWestBred Ent.. Independent company you just help more than you know..

  • Very straightforward and helpful tutorials as always. Thanks!

  • Dude! If you give away all the good tricks you're going to put us indi's out of a job.. I'm just sayin'

Great video but maybe just hold back a little, huh?

  • @davidhenning come up with your own tricks and maybe you wont worry so much about others giving tricks away.

  • What dolly are you using btw? Great lighting set up, what lights are you using to create the streaks in the back? and exactly which streak's plugin are you using? Thanks for the awesome videos!

  • Sorry, but your lighting looks NOTHING like Michael Bay's. That's ludicrous. Aside from the fact that HE doesn't even DO lighting, but never mind.

  • awsome,,, the best tutorial ever...

  • the best tutorial i seen and i have seen a ot of difrent tut thumps up

  • what kind of camra could i use?

  • This is a really good tutorial. I like it, and it helped me a lot. Thank you!

  • Need I ask what ur shooting with? It has to be high end

  • @polcan99 One thing I don't understand is when you say "bring down the exposure" to compensate for the heavy lighting, on a Canon 7D, what would you bring down? The ISO? The Aperture? Both? I keep the shutter speed at 50 or 60 depending on whether I'm shooting 24fps or 30fps. And as far as I know there's no such "exposure" setting that I know of. Please advise. Thank you!

  • I am two minutes into this tutorial and I'm finding it so interesting...thanks man

  • @hector1130 the filter goes in front of the lens

  • I like

  • Hi, polcan99. I was inspired by your using of light streak and placing small lights close to the lens. Please check out my video because i used both technique you showed us in your video here. Please check it out and gimme some tips to make my video better. thanks

  • the light streak is cool, thanks to LMFAO - PRA video and of course this tutorial, i found out how it is done :)

  • Great videos! Keep it up

  • I really liked that, you are explaining every single step which is actually amazing :) thank you

  • I'm in the market for a streak filter, was gonna go with the Optefex but the Tiffen looks great here. You said you used a 3mm one? I'm surprised at how pronounced the streaks are. I was thinking about getting a 1mm one... is the light 'fatter' and does it not stretch as far? I like the 'stretch' more than anything... ideally, I'm going for that 'Star Trek' look where the streak is fat and stretches across the frame nicely.

  • @ronineditor yeah the 1mmm produces a more noticable streak than the 3mm

  • HOW DO U DO THAT THING DRAKE DID ON THE MISS ME VIDEO !!! HELLLLLLLPPPPP!!!!!!!

  • what program did you edit this with?

  • Tom, IN the video you say you used a1000w redhead for the key light, did you also use the same for the rim light?

  • thank you , interesting focus on lighting..

  • Hello,

First of all I want to say I've watched at least 10 of your tutorials and I've found them all EXTREMELY helpful! I was wondering if I could ask you a specific question about the camera I just bought which as a Nikon D3100. At 3:40 I see how you adjust the exposure once you light the bright lights, however I'm not exactly sure how to adjust this on my camera without closing the Aperture. I want to keep the background out of focus. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

  • hi..... thank you very much for share your experiences to me.

    its very helpful to me.

also i have some questions want to ask you~

but how can i connect you~

here i come from taiwan and just a student ,and want to learn

    how to light

if you see my comment can you connect me ?

  • ANYONE HERE A DIRECTOR IN THE BUSINESS?

commercials, movies, short films, music videos?

i need to interview 2 directors for a college project but i cant seem to find any

  • are there decent streak filters that work for the focal length of the lens (eg, a 67mm 2 pt star filter?)

  • What type of lights did you use??? brand, model, etc...Thanks bro

  • uwag brak :D - może język PL by się przydał - pozdrawiam i dzięki za lekcje !

  • i like this so much..... thank a lot :)

  • Does anyone know if I could achieve the type of color correction he did on Adobe After Effects ? Please

  • @DesmondDennis Yes you can.

  • @polcan99 could you tel me how because thats the same type of color correction i need for a video i'm shooting

  • @DesmondDennis Check out my channel, click on the Tutorials playlist, and then watch the two videos about color correction. They're number 6 and 7. I show exactly how I do it in premiere, which has the exact same tools as after effects.

  • extremely extremely impressive!!!!!!!!!! thanks you for sharing, this is a prime demonstration of how important it is to dress the scene with lighting and such.

  • Great Stuff!!!!

  • really useful tutorial! thanks for sharing (:

  • replay button 0:00

  • well done man,,thank you

  • awsome tutorial this helped me alot :) and win some cupcakes for my class thanks to you :)))

    well heres my video...:youtube.com/watch?v=ZxzpT0nOD84

  • what can you say about the Nikon 3100? Does it fit for the filming of the video

  • What would be your alternate choice to those streak filters?

Personally, I don't like that. It shows the pedestals and then well the light rays. I don't like that effect.

After you have shot this, looking at the final cut, what would you have done?

  • what camera do you yse polcan99? my cousin is going to be directing a music video for my album but he doesnt know which camera to purchase, any response would be greatly apprecieted. God bless

  • @OptionMUSIC I use just about any camera there is out there... you have to be more specific. What's your budget etc. if you're looking for the best quality to price ratio then I'd suggest buying the Canon T2i. Works amazing for music videos.

  • @polcan99 how about a canon t3i (600d) can it produce the same or even better for videos?

  • cool

  • Tom...thank you

you explain in detail so well

    'bless

  • thats nice and good way to tell...

  • interesting tutorials, i'm impressed. so how can anyone who's interested in your production get you to do their musical video.

  • @Ogeneike Thnx! If you'd like to work with me then contact me either at mgmt@tlapro.com or antosfilms@gmail.com and let me know what project you'd like to do... that's it!

  • Tom, you're my hero...........

  • @frilink Thnx! You mean like a super-hero right?

  • @polcan99

    Yeah, with mask and everything......

  • What's the name of the song he sings at the end. I would like to now it.

  • @Clauskencootje Its called "Beautiful Smile"

  • Thanks so much for this! You put a lot of effort into the video and tutorial. I love this kind of thing! Would love to work with you on a project! Keep up the great work!

  • super tutorial...thanks!

  • Now I see you sometimes use the HMI or the tungsten... but those are really expensive. You think a simple flood light do?

I know their power is much more but as far as the lighting itself goes?

  • @L0zer797 Yes... if you don't require a strong light like the HMI's then flood lights are also great.

  • GREAT TUTORIAL...

  • one problem, his voice sounds so disney.. anyway, great tutorial.. learned alot. :))

  • Tom, I don't understand how to do the colour correction that you did.

Did you do it on the camera?

  • @CatchingWind Nope, color correction is done afterwards in your editing program. Check out my other tutorials number 6 and 7 to see exactly how I do it.

  • I still don't understand how you sing when you're being filmed. Do you play the song in the background and then capture the shot with yourself lipsyncing and then just fine tune it when you upload it onto your computer? Nobody seems to cover the absolute basics

  • @DanimalLawlz I think its because its PRETTY BASIC! duh!

  • @DanimalLawlz i got the same doubt :/

  • At 5:57, how do u make the streaks on the lights?? Do you use a program or a lens because i was looking for streak lenses and couldn't find any... can you help me??? plz

  • @ShutdownEntVIDS That's done using a filter you put infront of your camera's lens... check out the link in the description of this video for the exact same filter i used, that you can buy online. I'm not the one selling it so I dont set the price, I heard you can find them cheaper in other places so if you find a better deal then let me know so I can also post that link. Thnx!

  • what a difference lighting makes,

  • @Stepanskiy23

Yes, you can shoot with 500D aka t1i.

Just make sure to keep a few things in mind.

Make sure you have a computer capable of editing/supporting DSLR footage. Once footage is captured and its time to edit, you have two options.....either use software that natively supports dslr footage sush as Premiere Pro CS5 or you must use 3rd party software to convert your footage to something more managable.

  • Very helpful

  • wow great work and tutorial.. this looks amazing!

  • with which program you put the effects ?

  • @Iliqnozaurus What effects? There are no special effects in this video. it's all done in camera. If you're asking about the streaks, it s done with a filter you put on your camera... check out the link in the description of the video. Thnx!

  • @Stepanskiy23 you'll want to get the 550d, that camera is awesome. 500d is only slightly less expensive and very limited in video options

  • so just like start recording video before playing the music for the artist to sing too.. and play the beep at some point between starting recording and playing the audio back?

  • @Stepanskiy23 Sorry i never used that camera and never heard anything about it so I can't recommend it

  • Excellent work

  • @FlyinangeLproduction Sure! Check out the music video I did for JReyez using the Canon 7D which is the exact same quality as the 550d

  • hey i got another question for you.. i just recently made my music video.. and i had such a hard time syncing the audio perfect with the video.. are there any tips or anything you can tell me to help me out so my hair doesnt start to fall out again!

  • @MargenProductions sure! just use a distinctive beep or tone at the start of your video so u can easly synch the video up to that... like most people do when shooting films and they use a clapper board to synch the audio and video later on.
