I remember I saw this demo on PSN since it first came out (I think, but it was quite a while ago). I wanted to try it just cause it seemed interesting, but the internet speed at the time sucked. Now that I have a better internet speed, I finally downloaded the demo and tried it.
i like the idea of this game but i find it repetitive thus quite boring and slow pace, despite this i did enjoy the games ability to draw me into its addicting story and its distinct way of telling it.
@dogydory looking at the video, my first thought was, these fights could get long and repetitive. Then I read your comment and you said what I was thinking. I find this to be a problem sometimes with some RPG games I've seen my friend play.

I have yet to finish this game. It boarders on the, repetitive, repetitive, and repetitive. I would have preferred more investigation and exploration rather than running around fighting, since that is the impression I got when I first saw this game. The only thing that makes me come back to it is the story (which is kewl), something I really want to know more of but the repetitive combat just makes it hard to stick with. This game could have been so much more.

@TehPure You'll reach a point in the game where you can't go on unless both characters are at the same chapter, so you'll have to switch sooner or later. It's your choice how to approach it, really. You can either follow the entire story with one and then switch at the end, go 1-to-1, keep one a few chapters behind, any combination really.
man if they made a Folklore 2 I would be the first one on buying it, the game is SO AWESOME and has not that much popularity he deserves to be recognized!! =)
@IGNsucks you can find it in most rental stores. I think you should rent it. Depending on your taste, you may or may not like it. I didn't care for it. Yet, that just me.

@oSadlythebest I'm playing through the story doing one chapter with one charachter with one, and then with the other. It may seem redundant, but there is a seriously different play style for both that comes with mostly completely different folk.
It has a traditional linear level progression, but the small hub world of Doolin offers side quests and catchy music. All I can say about the game is as follows: The game is freaking BEAUTIFUL, the combat is interesting, if only for the method of using and gaining new attacks, and, at least for me, the story is quite entertaining. In short, it's FAR worth however much money you buy it for (usually around $20). Go buy it, you won't be sorry.

I'm on my second playthrough of Fable II, and am still addicted. The real charm of Fable II for me, isn't in its main story, its in all things but that. After I am done for the 2nd time, I shall go thru it again and try to be evil.
Just a question... does Folklore have much interactivity elements like Fable where you go around and build up your character how you see fit?
This game looks interesting but I doubt it plays anything like Fable.. the only thing I see in common is its artistic visuals
Fable II is an action/RPG, Folklore is an action/adventure, different genre's plus what a 0.2 difference equal to? lol Its the actual review that matters not the number silly.
I´d recommend Fable II for you if you think this game looks interesting. Folklore and Fable II are quite similair, even though the gameplays are very different.
You could do the main story of Fable II and get thru the game in 5-10 hrs easy or you could spend your time around the villages, working jobs, buying up property, refurnishing your houses to boost income, start a couple families, raise renown by entertaining the villagers getting them drunk, giving gifts, gaining new expressions, weapons, skill,will, and strength pts to upgrade your character and then there's the whole good/evil moral/corrupt side.
i got a ps3 and a xbox...lol i did all that in lass then 1 week......i own all the towns....got the strongest katana strongest gun....the game is to fast.....AND TO EASY....
Kinda the same things. Keats finds out different stuff Ellen does for the most part, and they get lots of different folks. The folklore are the same though, only in the third realm Ellen and Keats fight them in different areas.
And Keats has his transgresion thingy (I think thats what it's called) and Ellen attacks faster and can summon mulipul folks at once. Both are good though.
Well you end up having to play with both of them. Up till chapter five you can play with whichever you want but when you get there you have no choice but to switch to the other. (cuz you have to catch them up with each other)
After that you can alternate between the two whenever.
Personally I start with Ellen first and alternate at the end of every chapter. Thats probably the best strategy so you don't forget the storyline, like if you played through with one and went back for the other.
I have no idea how you mixed that up, but Folklore is NOT produced by Atlus, but by Game Republic, which has no relation whatsoever to Shin Megami Tensei.
Just bought a PS3 a couple weeks ago. Not sure if I should buy this or Motor Storm. My local video store doesn't rent either bc they suck...incredibly. I know that they are two completely different games but which seems like it will be more fun overall?
i have both games..if u like cars more than adventure and fantasy then u should buy Motor Storm but if it's the other way then u should buy Folklore....i personally think folklore is better.
Motorstorm seems like the typical racing game-- you're crazy about it for a few days, and then you hit a wall and it gets boring fast. Personally the racing game I'm getting is Wipeout HD, you guys should look into that one too

Yes you can, but it´s not like an MMORPG, it´s a dungeon maker were you can share dungeons.
You finish it in about 10-30 hours, depending on if you do the side-quests and so on.

The souls you absorb (all monsters in Folklore has a soul, that you can absorb when you´ve beaten them them up)
are your weapons, or attacks to put it correctly. So yes, you can choose whichever battle-style you want. Some folks have similair powers though.

Personally I start with Ellen first and alternate at the end of every chapter. Thats probably the best strategy so you don't forget the storyline, like if you played through with one and went back for the other.

Just bought a PS3 a couple weeks ago. Not sure if I should buy this or Motor Storm. My local video store doesn't rent either bc they suck...incredibly. I know that they are two completely different games but which seems like it will be more fun overall?

i have both games..if u like cars more than adventure and fantasy then u should buy Motor Storm but if it's the other way then u should buy Folklore....i personally think folklore is better.

You're right it does suck. I traded it in for store credit the next day. Got Burnout Paradise and it's muuuuuch better.

Motorstorm seems like the typical racing game-- you're crazy about it for a few days, and then you hit a wall and it gets boring fast. Personally the racing game I'm getting is Wipeout HD, you guys should look into that one too

i've played every metal gear including the onces for nes and msx...i think thats what it was called, and i just beat mgs4 for the 3rd time 10 minutes ago, I Just got the Big boss face camo, the one where its all burnt up and if you walk by people with it they scream and pass out...*sigh* great game.

This games not bad! but a game thats a must buy is Folklore. Oblivion elder scrolls IV and Time shift. cant wait tell final fantsy resident evil 5 and devil may cry 4 come out!
