I have always liked watching Deadliest Catch. Phil is such a cool person and he will be missed. The type person that makes you feel like he is a family member after watching many episodes. There is a spirit about him that would never die and the way I see it he still fishes the sea right next to the ones he loves. Maybe you can't see him but he is there in spirit. A legion that lives on forever.

I have watched deadliest catch from day one capt phil was a gem of a man so sorry to hear of his death .I will play a lament on the bagpipes in his honour .
@densjo Phil would have been honored. The Jazz Funeral is a tradition normally reserved for black Jazz musicians that are native to New Orleans. To my knowledge an exception to that rule has only been made four or five times. An exception was made to honor Phil. A jazz funeral is the highest honor one can achieve in New Orleans.
@thfc5afc1 It was not ment to offend. It was how I saw captain Phil.Sorry if it offended you.I just thought Captain Phil would have loved Gunners,Thats how I saw him,,,I DO HAVE THE MOST RESPECT FOR HIS SONS AND FAMILY AND HIM.For you to think less from my comment than you are the WANKER.I Respect the crabbers, they are real men....

Space & time have moved on to the higher dimensions for you, as it will for us all? For those good of hart, the wind anecdote will be in your favor, No Doubt, Phil ! Jake, show courage!
I am going to miss him so much on the show. He was so up front and also cared. Not like Keith that just yells or Sig that does not give a flying f#@%.
@mdknutson I couldn't agree more. Keith was just a crying baby who always set his pots on top of Phil's and Sig and his crew treat the VERY HARD working Jake like a nobody and that is sad. R.I.P. Phil and thanks for the blessing you gave New Orleans!
@Clearly69 I have always understood that this job was one of the toughest...but even when Phil was pissed hes never an ass. He was just pissed....thats why I will miss him. There is a huge gulf between pissed and asshole.
i have never been to new orleans but i love the way they do things over the top weddings, over the top funerals over the top eveything. i love their traditions. i just hope that with Katrina that destroyed everything they will keep on doing what they do so well. deadliest catch rocks - thans for the vid.
What the hell! I live not far from N/O and I didn't hear anything about this event. Was it open to the public, or what? I would have done anything to be there that day.
@Clearly69 It was in the New Orleans paper and I think Fox 8 news publicized it. I did not find out about it til one or two days before the event. It should have had more publicity. It was open to the public and about 150 people showed up. It was fun and a great way to honor Phil, but the heat was almost enough to kill someone. Sorry you did not find out about it and I wish you could have been there. RIP Capt. Phil
The man,the Legend, the crab man him-self and the best deadliest catch actor to fish the bearing sea!! RIP Skipper. A fisherman my self in New Zealand.
man..the hansens, hillstrands and their crews were all there.apparently he died a long time ago but i just knew about it yesterday from watching the emmy's.nonetheless its a sad loss.RIP skipper..
Ahh! That's my people in NO! They know how to have a send off! Does anyone know what song they were playing? The chorus kind of sounds like an 80's tune.

I will miss Phil on Deadliest Catch, just watched the episode of his death. Even though I already knew he had passed away, it was still very hard to watch. RIP Captain Phil
I did not know where the Funneral was going to be. I will miss you Phil I always watched Deadliest Catch to watch Phil and his Sons..Phil was the face of the show a captain of today. Jake and Josh lets get together for a beer and wings.
You really can't have a better ending to a great man's life than down in New Orleans with a bit of jazz. R.I.P Phill hope the fishin's good on the other side.
So sad to see the final episode tonight, with Phil in it. We feel as if we knew him. When you watch a reality show like this, you feel like you know those people. Phil was one of those guys, that you just know that you got attached too. His boat was the only boat I'd really watch. I wouldn't really follow along to the other boats. His boat just stuck out. He was a great man! All the best to his sons! I felt so sad watching, I lost my dad in November, so it brought back memories. xoxo
I truly appreciate your video zander. (BTW, I'm on my daughter's account). I watched the "After the Catch" version on tv Tuesday and was moved more by this celebration than any other requiem I have witnessed.
While I didn't know Phil, I smiled thinking of him looking down as the other Captains, friends, and family danced. I'm sure he was too.
Thanks for putting this up...its nice to see the unedited sincerity held by everyone. My thoughts go out to the family and friends...Im sorry for your loss.
Captain Phil Harris embodied many of the traditional values of America. Hard work, self reliance, and rugged individualism are just a few examples. His commitment to his family, crew, and friends is admirable.
who is the guy who looks like him???? wearing sunglasses and black shirt, facial hair like capt phil? thanks for posting this though, although they should have shown more on the after the catch
This is a lovely video. Thank you for sharing. I ove the urn they chose for him. My husbands family buried his Grandfathers ashes in a large ice cream freezer as a tribute. His grandfather always made ice cream, every week. It was a meaningful tribute.
I hope everyone enjoyed the video! A big welcome to all who have thanked me!! If you have last nights episode of After the Catch on DVR, I am the guy in the black t-shirt, jeans, and white tennis shoes standing behind Captain Jonathan as the credits roll. It looked like I was smiling, I had a great time!!

Ya just gotta love how NOLA celebrates life! I worked NOLA after Katrina to help some of the most beautiful people put their lives back together like it was. What I learned from these wonderful people is invaluable to my life. My condolances to the boys, the crew of the Cornelia Marie and all the other men who fish the Bering Sea. He will be sadly missed.
The sons need to man up and keep that Legacy Alive.

What an amazing tribute to a truly amazing person!! He has been greatly missed, because he was so loved by many. Thank you for posting this video, showing what it was like to be there to celebrate Phil's life. As for the person who didn't like the quality, how about they go out there and try to do better with the means that you had. You did an amazing video and thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting it for the world to enjoy.
I think it's very nice that they celebrated PHIL even thoughe he was gone, i know it's a sad moment but nice to see laghter and music to see PHIL on his way sometimes death shouldn't be about saddness or greef but laghter and music for who he really was.
How fantastic to see so many people at Captain Phil's funeral. Just goes to show how well liked he was. Deadliest Catch won't be the same without him. RIP Phil
I think it's pretty cool! jerky and all, it lets the harris family know how loved Phil was, from the bering sea to New Orleans! a big thanks to from all the rest of the people who appreciate efforts like your to comemorate (sp) the celebration of LIFE!
Simply, simply AWESOME!!! Thank you for posting. And just when I thought Capn. Keith could look any whiter, lol ... just playing, but thank you. Can't wait to see this hit the air. R.I.P. Phil.
Thank you so much for doing this! He was our favorite on DC and the show just won't be the same without him. We got to share just a very small part of his life, but what a difference it made to so many.
Thanks for posting! An amazing way to celebrate a life of such a strong individual! We were all let into a portion of his life. So thanks for posting this for us all to celebrate his passing!

*laughs* 6:10 - 6:55... And who says crab fishermen can't dance? I just know Phil was looking down, watching and enjoying every minute of this...and probably making a few snarky comments about his colleagues' dance moves ;)
@wsgil And your comment made me nauseous. It's fine if you had an issue with it, but you don't need to share that issue with everybody. Especially when it makes you look like a douche.
@TIsbell68 Gee, i am sorry. I am not a professional cameraman. This video has been up for over a month and out of the 17,000 people who have watched everyone has had the decency not to complain up until now. If ya aint got nothing nice to say then keep ya trap shut. It was 95 degrees at 9 AM when I shot this video - if ya aint happy with the quality or lack there of, then to freaking bad! I did this for the fans, the Captains and their crews, and myself, and I think most appreciate it.
@zander712 - Well I for one think this is fine. Phil Harris will be sorely missed by all DC fans everywhere, and that you were able to be there is SUCH a blessing, especially to those of us who couldn't. No matter WHO disapproves, I honestly think PHIL would not only approve, but also thank you for posting this so we could share in some small part this tribute to one of the BEST Bering Sea fishermen to walk this earth. Thank you, zander712.
@zander712 . many thanks for this video as a uk viewer i am still shocked at seeing his sad death. thanks for taking the time and caring enough to video this.
@TIsbell68 What kind of a jerk posts an insult to a video taken by an amateur? Especially an amateur without whom we wouldn't be able to see this event. Buy some manners.
Thank you for posting such a wonderful tribute to Phil. He was my favorite person on the Deadliest Catch. His wisdom, humor and all that was Phil will be dearly missed by all of us viewers. I wish I could have met him, but I feel as if I already did. Like he is family. Like many of the skippers of the other ships. They came into our homes and shared intricate details of their lives for all to see. Or should I say, for all to sea. God rest ye dear Phil Harris. Best wishes to his sons & family.
zander712, Thank You for sharing this. Sure miss Phil! Lots of us do. His time here was short, but he had a hell of a run. You could do a lot worse, and most have. My thoughts go out to his Dad, Grant, and of course Josh and Jake. I lost my Dad a year ago. Still hurts, but memories are a beautiful thing. They sure help.
@camdensdaddy It was my pleasure to do this. Captain Phil Harris was a great man and a true American! Having the Deadliest Catch Captains and crew here in New Orleans was a major boost for many of us. It has been very depressing around here for the last 61 days.
Rest in peace Captain Harris. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching you and your two sons. Watching the three of you reminds me a whole lot of my dad, brother and I.
Jake & Josh,
Hang in there guys. I lost my dad eight years ago and while the hurt never completely goes away, it becomes less and less as time goes on and you remember the really great times that you had with your dad. You'll be doing something and all of a sudden you'll be reminded of a good time that you had with your dad. :)
VIVA PHIL!!! You managed to touch and enrich our lives in the short time you spent on this planet. You will be missed in life but your memory will live on....
Most men talk about thier lives...few actually LIVE IT. RI.P.
I never met you Phil, but I miss you like I've known you for years. I wish I could hug Josh and Jake. Captain Phil will forever live in in our hearts. R.I.P.
It was great to see all the captains, Jake n Josh, Mike Rowe, and the people of New Orleans celebrate Phil's life. Well done ;-) Loved seeing them all dancing... Jonathon and Keith sure got into it!
In Australia, the new seasons have not been shown yet. We are getting lots of re-runs. Hopefully the new episodes will be shown soon, although its going to be hard watching Phil, knowing what will happen.

@mileycyrusrocks01 I have been IQ'ing those episodes, so I know what I'll be doing on the weekend. Thanks for letting me know that we are up to the current stuff ;-)
Capt Phil, you've been one of my two favorite captains throughout the years. I'm going to really miss seeing you. I wish you fair winds and following seas, Sir. May all your pots be filled and you catch your quotas every trip.
@lowbassfan and all have commented on this thread. Having these men come here has been a big morale boost for many of us who are filled with dread over this oil issue. It was a big boost for me personally. I certainly appreciate them for coming down in their time of grief and our time of tragedy. It is a pleasure to have them down here and I appreciate all they have done while here. I am happy to share this video with all, and I hope you get as much out of it as i have - RIP Captain Phil.
@zander712 I was the bald guy in the red shirt and sunglasses in the procession. Phil was my best friend for over 30 years. We were blood brothers. He would have loved the ceremony that you all put on for him. All the captains, and show personnell from Deadliest Catch couldn't get over the respect and decency everyone in LA exhibited. You all are amazing down there. There is a special place in my heart for NOLA and I pray every night your lifes are not impacted too much from the oil spill.
RIP Captain Phil

@janeck123 Capt. Phil had a stroke, and then later died in the hospital after surgery. It was very sad, and very unexpected.

Thank you so much for doing this! He was our favorite on DC and the show just won't be the same without him. We got to share just a very small part of his life, but what a difference it made to so many.
Thank you again!

I did this for the fans, the Captains and their crews, and myself, and I think most appreciate it.
zander712 1 year ago 27
@zander712 - Well I for one think this is fine. Phil Harris will be sorely missed by all DC fans everywhere, and that you were able to be there is SUCH a blessing, especially to those of us who couldn't. No matter WHO disapproves, I honestly think PHIL would not only approve, but also thank you for posting this so we could share in some small part this tribute to one of the BEST Bering Sea fishermen to walk this earth. Thank you, zander712.
