Lip's face at the end is a classic! After this doc, the world's most famous bands welcomed them into the arms of metal. Always love Anvil! Even though I've seen this 10000001 times, I always cry at the end! ANVIL 4 LIFE!!
ANVIL FANS UNITE! Never again will you see such dedication from two brothers in arms. What can we do? These guys deserve their piece of the pie. See, this is what happens when you let attorneys and accountants control the music you listen to.
this documentary is so good ! For me these guys are about the love of their music and holding on to that belief. "The number of people at a rock concert and the amount of tickets sold does not tell you how good the music is" (Frank Zappa). Giving everything you got for 175 people is just as real ! Respect to Anvil !
@splankhoon Even to 4 guys, dude. Even jamming with your friends, always feel what you're doing, always enjoy it. If not, why the hell are you doing it? That's the thing I got from this movie, although even in the movie they were always saying that they were gonna make it and such, but I want to believe that they didn't mean it in a money kind of way, but in a 'these guys are acting like freaks with my music!!!!!' kind of way. I don't know, this movie is touching in many ways, because it's real.
I was at Hellfest and i could say at the singer it was a great concert during the dedicace, he was very happy to play at Hellfest with a lot of people!
This is really sad. I try and advertise Anvil as much as i can to all my friends, so that they see that there is something 10x better than the crap kids listen to today.
These guys deserve the entire fucking Donnington for themselves!
Kudos to this band. They are so dedicated!!!! They are still doing what they love, despite their losses. That says a lot about their dedication, and that is something that money can't buy. But they need to be acknowledged. Best of luck to you guys, without your struggle your influence on bands like Metallica and Anthrax, metal wouldn't be the same without you!!!!!!!!!
To me they sounded like kids who played rock/metal but never grew up!! Honestly, their songs didn't have structure, vocals was off, and a lot of mistakes on the guitar!! The first band, The Answer was way better!!! Just my opinion!!
My opinion is... Anvil do what they do best and do it well...if mistakes are made...fuck it ...it's THEIRS and they can fuck it up all they want. I thought they rocked and couldn't be more proud of them for sticking to their guns. Just my opinion !!
Yeah sure. I have Michael Bolton and MLTR interspersed with a few tracks here and there from Chuck Berry, BB King, Led Zep, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and a few other crappy bands like that.
As an Anvil fan for almost 16 years, all i have to say is, buy their records, and maybe, maybe someone out there will notice that Anvil are the most underrated band in whole heavy metal scene.
I love all these big name metal bands telling us how great ANVIL is but I would like to see them put their money where there mouth is and take them on tour as a supporting act. These people are so full of shit. Here they have a chance to do something great for a deserving band - but they wont.
well i think if even one of metallicas guys, that means ur pretty fucken good. they used to be amazing and popular, but then they just became nothing.
Hard 'n' heavy, thats there best album IMO, If you never heard it get it, you will love it, i bought her way back in like '86, could of been '85 cant remember.
I haven't seen the movie yet, but I used to practice next door to them at Safor Rehearsal studios in Toronto, and they were great guys. LOUD AS HELL!! We didn't practice while thet were there hahaha They always had great energy on stage and were always entertaining.
Anvil were never especially good, but neither were Metallica, the difference is simply commercial success - this movie is just an attempt from them to break through to the mainstream and become famous, but that doens't make them any better...
I mean by watching the movie they seem good people, and I'd probably like them on a personal basis, but I have never liked anything they have recorded. I honestly don't feel music was the career they should have taken, and "Do it until we're old men!"....like they say in the movie....
The slow song playing from 2:04 and 2:17 is the best song I ever heard from them, and I don't even know the title.
I strongly believe that the reason why they didn't make it big is because of their crappy songwriting, as all of their other songs are typical, uninspired redundant metal songs.
I'm sorry to say, but this is going to be a great documentary about a crappy band playing crappy music. Still worth watching it, for the relationships between one another and the feelings involved.
what?? anvil is a great band they should have been huge, metal on metal is an amazing album and what do you mean a crappy band? do you even realise how much work theyve put into that music the past 25 years?
If they put THAT MUCH effort into some basic boring metal riffs, that even my little 4 yr old can come up with, they are into the wrong business.
I'm a musician, and I am judging their musical side. Sorry, I find them to be the lamest in the whole metal genre, there are far better metal bands out there, who have far more interesting chord progressions, melody lines, hooks, lyrics, also with better songs that are well thought-out , and especially better vocals than Anvil. Even from Canada.
thats wierd because i just watched the video and it seems like slash, lemmy kilmister, and lars ulrich love the band. hmmm i think ill take there judgement over yours. and yea i agree about the vocal thing
Slash isn't a very articulate musician at all, he's a cheaper copy of a Page-Perry hybrid, but without the musical knowledge of Page and Joe Perry, Lemmy has no room judging bands, he needs some music skills and voice skills big time himself, and Lars Ulrich plays by ear, so none of these three you mentioned really have any knowledge to be able to judge other musicians, all they are saying in the movie is basically that they like Anvil, but if you pay attention they don't get into much detail.
What? What exactly shows what I know? And what I know about what?
Are you capable of expressing a concept somewhat intelligently?
Or are you the typical angry headbanger with an IQ of about 50, who raises his fist in the air, in the pathetic attempt to defend your favorite band, just "Cuz they're metal!", being completely unaware of the fact that their songwriting skills are not much better than your IQ level?
You can like a band for whatever the reason but it doesn't have to be their songs. Matter of fact, I listened to Anvil back in the day, but I wasn't really into their songs, as much as their heavy metal attitude, being a beginner headbanger myself in the mid 80s, and that's what captured me about them. But at the same time I always listened to different things, my faves were/are: Dream Theater, Marillion, Pat Metheny, HIM, Saosin, Journey, Toto, Genesis, Yes, Chick Corea, Eagles....
Anvil never claimed to be the best metal band out there. They're just out there believing in what they're doing. And weather people like them or not, they never stopped.
I never said that they claimed they are the best band. I am aware of what you're saying, and they do get my respect for that.
My point was that I don't relate to their songwriting style at all, as it is much too basic for my personal taste, but I did say I would like them on a personal basis, as they seem good people.
