I think some people forget that this is a tv show. Sometimes the characters (and it's not definitely just chuck) do awful things that in real life would be inexcusable but you just have to kind of dismiss or downplay some things. Because lets be honest- in real life, no decent people do some of the things these characters do sometimes.
A lot of people seem to think this isn't domestic violence because Chuck's fist didn't connect with Blair's face, but judging by the way she fled from the room bleeding I have to disagree.
@chibigrl16 If you watch the show, which judging by the comment I would say that you don't, you would realize it is not Chucks intention to punch Blair or hit her. Hence why he doesn't. The writers say themselves Blair is not scared of Chuck of for him.
I don't think Chuck is physically abusive to Blair but he does have a very dark side. I don't think it's "right" that he grabbed her like that or smashed a window right above her but in my opinion it's not abuse. Verbal/mental abuse. . . now that's a different story, but they BOTH have put each-other through the wringer, and she has slapped/hit him before. I love these two and hate how they hurt each-other but they have so much passion that they NEED to be together!!!
awww i just found this video on the side. its so sad! but chuck wouldnt hurt blair and its not that bad he was just angry that after everything they have been through she chooses a stupid prince over him. but in the end blair doesnt really talk about it again or seem to care about it that much.
@dharper17 He did grab her and push her onto the couch. And how does him being drunk make it any less abusive? If I follow that logic, if my husband's sober when he hits me, it's abuse, but if he's drunk it's okay?
Chuck's possessiveness is quite a bit too much, I noticed. But I refuse to believe that this is abuse. And this is in the past now. "Love makes everything simple" And it's Blair's choice to decide who she wants to be with, not any of yours.
And also, just wanted to say that I dated a guy who was very possessive and didn't respect my space, and when I tried to convey to him that our relationship was over, he slammed his fist against the wall. And it wasn't cute. It wasn't endearing. It wasn't sexy. It was scary. And it was then, officially, OVER.
I think what upset me more than the punch in the glass was the way that he forcibly took Blair and said "You're mine" and pushed her on the chair. I'm sorry, but it looked like he was about to rape her. I'm conflicted because I actually love their relationship and love has his character has changed and evolved, but at the same time, I don't know if I'm cool with a message being sent out to girls that dating someone violent is ok and even sexy.
@geminibaby28 The writers maybe didn't realize this is abuse and it's so much more wrong they didn't recognize it because it is abuse. They show Chuck's desperation, because he wanted to punch Blair. He was aiming at her, that he was so drunk he missed is perhaps even more disturbing because clearly now people don't see the abuse. BTW at the time of the scene, their relationship was already at the end. She was already with Louise in a relationship.
Plus there is an awful lot of victim blaming here including from Chuck himself, 'she went up there on her own' is victim blaming 101. That Blair is in love with Chuck doesn't say anything about their relationship, often the victim in an abusive relationship thinks she/he can change the other and thinks it's her/his fault for the mistake of the abuser. This is not healthy and not an epic love story! And abuse isn't just psychical, it can be verbal as well. Please inform yourself about abuse!
It's disgusting that they're so many people claiming this is not abuse. They've been in an abusive relationship since season 1. Chuck tried to rape Jenny in the pilot and assaulted Serena. He does try to hit Blair here and the writers planned to show a video of Leighton and Ed after this episode about abusive relationships but they canceled for some reason. Blair and Chuck were never in a good or healthy relationship. It's disturbing that the writers see them as an OTP because Chuck is toxic.
i'm conflicted. i'm still a chair fan because i think this is a lapse in chuck's character, the point where he reaches rock bottom. it's only up from here. i can see how this can be construed as abuse and i think that's why this scene is a little hard to watch, as an adamant chair shipper. still, it's so tragic and beautiful in a way...really great acting.
This episode mademe so sad to see how far can a human being without hope, without having known the love of truth, because that's exactly what happened to Chuck, he lost everything. There he meets Blair, his childhood friend, finds love, and do not know how to express it. Chuck I'm not defending what he did was completely wrong, he lost his head, but he did not want to hurt her, he was desperate because he was losing the only person in the world who loved him. is sad!
I think Chuck finding out the truth behind the Bass company, his dad & Blair getting engage...was that made him realize in the end of the 4th season that he really needed to look for a real emotional guidance that he never had...and treat himself...they're showing this development in S-5 now I just hope they don't make him start from 0 again, bc the writers of GG love walk around in circles.
this isn't an abusive scene, even the writers of gossip girl said so. he punched the window not Blair, and he really turns himself around in season 5 because of this.
of course abuse can be emotional as well. but they are both emotionally abusing each other so it is not chuck's fault entirely. the writers clearly say in one of their interviews that this was not meant to be a domestic abuse scene, it is a scene to show chuck's desperation and hurt that his relationship with blair is coming to an end.
wowww Chuck didn't punch Blair! He punched a window, because he was so upset. Did you not see and hear the glass break? lol He clearly wasn't thinking about what he was doing because of this. That proves all of you Chuck haters and your abusive rant wrong. He took his rage out on a wall not on Blair which is better. I don't know why it's not to all of you. Relax. If you don't like it, then don't watch it. It's as simple as that.
reading these comments I am deeply disturbed. THIS IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE!! I doesn't matter if blair wasn't scared or if they have a "volatile" relatioship, it was abuse. And no this isn't passion or love it's abuse. And no this isn't normal, it's abuse. If this happened to you would you think he was romantice or just plain crazy? Don't be passive recognize abuse when it's right in front of your face.
this is not in any way domestic abuse. domestic abuse is when a partner hits their partner. did you not see chuck's fist go through the window? it wasn't aiming at Blair. it's exactly the same thing as someone punching the door, or table because they are angry and upset and in emotional turmoil. IT ISN'T DOMESTIC ABUSE.
am i the only one who finds this scene amazing? it's so tragic and beautiful. he's so in love with her and he can't even handle the thought of her being with someone else. something about this scene makes me love chuck even more.
The way we viewed it, blair wasn't scared. They have a volatile relationship, they always have, but I do not believe that it is abuse when it's the two of them. Chuck does not try to hurt Blair. He punches the glass because he has rage, but he has never, and will never, hurt Blair. He knows it and she knows it, and I feel it's very important to know that she is not scared—if anything, she is scared for Chuck—and what he might do to himself, but she is never afraid of what he might do to him.
I do believe that two people that meant to be together, eventually they find their way back...so Chuck and Blair forever..no matter what happen they WILL find their way back <3
This is such a sad scene. Chuck is completely destroyed, and Blair is helpless - they're both helpless. All their dreams are shattered and the future is uncertain.
Blair will always belong with Chuck. And now that they have a baby on the way...
He didnt want to punch her, he didnt even try to! he was drunk and sad, and upset and feeling miserable because he didnt want to lose Blair and when she said it was over all of that inside him just kind of like exploded...He would NEVER hurt her (physically, since he's the only one who's got enough of her to break her heart) he loves her too much.
i dont know why someone hate B in that scene ? B always loves C and in last ep of season 4, she goes with C but C relizes that if they're toghether B wont have the best happy ending like when she's with Louis
Chair all the way! I just want them to be happy and I think that true happiness is if they were together. That is the only way. Otherwise it would just be superficial happiness. And I hope people don't think that Chuck hit the window coz he wanted to hit her. It was just to express his rage. The director said so. It was not abuse or anything like that.
When everything clears up, Chair was always mean to be.
I understand that chuck shouldn't of done this but blair is just as much at fault. She knew how drunk he was, and she knows chuck wants to be with her. Why would she go over there that night and tell him she's marrying someone else? CRUEL. They need to get over everything because they're meant to be together. CHUCK and BLAIR FOREVER.
Chuck Bass and Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford) enjoyed a hedonistic summer trip around the globe but, when they stop in Los Angeles to visit Serena, things quickly spin out of control. Nate falls into bed with a sexy and mysterious older woman, Diana Payne (guest star Elizabeth Hurley), who has more in store for him than he knows
Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) has spent a fabulous summer with her fiancé, Prince Louis (guest star Hugo Becker), in her future kingdom of Monaco. But when Blair returns home from the holiday, this Princess-to-be will quickly learn that planning a royal wedding can be a royal pain. And the fallout from Blair and Chuck's (Ed Westwick) heartbreaking decision to let each other go isn't making life easier.
I don't give a damn if he's drunk. He had NO right to attempt to force himself on her or hit her. Chuck has hurt Blair MANY times. Yes I know he is not all to blame, but he needs to grow up. Blair is the victim here. I can't Chuck anymore.
She came to him, knowing that he was drunk. Blair finishes his stupidly information about the engagement. after beating the victim is preparing for a party on the occasion of the engagement ... have fun jumping around the house and dreaming of the throne. And the violence does not remember.
I hate what they have done to the once amazing Chair! "We've all got both light and dark inside us "I don't think he would ever really hurt her if you notice he chose to punch the glass instead of her which he could have done she got hit by a piece of shrapnel.I don't think it excuses what he did.Blair was the only light he ever really had in his life all that remains is the darkness in him, I believe Blair was the one thing that his darkness at bay. Now he fears what he will become without her
P.S. To all the Chair fans saying that she wasn't scared of Chuck but for Chuck.....are you fucking kidding me??????Did you really watch this scene or did you all close your eyes? -_-
To all the girls that see this scenes as romantic and passionate,i really hope you will find boyfriends like this sociopath so you'll see how wonderful a relationship like that is.............
i just pisses me off when chuck is labeled an abuser. obviously what he did was wrong and stuff. but this episode reminded me a lot of beauty and the beast. the beast freakin had her locked up and she was crying and everything. he was possessive too over belle and his father. and that's a fairytale! the beast never hit her but he did pull/push her around at least in the animated movie. the beast also had a bad temper much like chuck in this clip. chuck will never hit blair and he didn't.
Once a possessive, abusive sociopath, always a possessive, abusive sociopath. People like that never change, no matter how nice and fluffy the "love redeems" fantasy sounds.
This is abuse! How can people just sit there and make excuses for him?! He tried to rape Serena, and Jenny and now Blair. And he gave her to his uncle in exchange for a hotel. Not cool Chuck.
Lmao everyone needs to calm down. Naturally, growing up the way Chuck did he would be a little fucked up mentally ESPECIALLY when it comes to things that are so foreign to him like love, and people need to understand that. Hey, I love Chuck Bass/Ed and I find it interesting the way he's slowly letting go of the side of him his father created. Of course moments like this will happen to him, but they've been becoming less and less. Why? Because his character is developing.
That's just a liitle bit too far. Thats just bordering emotional abuse if not over the line. No one should ever have to put up with anything like.. :((
@LaureneB82 I'm sorry - it's just really annoying for me to see all this hate towards Chuck for ONE thing he did. I love Chair, and I miss them like crazy and I've been seeing so many different arguments and points of view lately - it's driving me nuts.
Thanks for posting this clip! I don't really know what else to say... This is a very emotinally strong clip, for both Chuck and Blair. Chuck is really breaking here, isn't he? I feel sorry for him. I hope Blair forgives him one day. I really can't pictire Gossip Girl without 'Chair', it's always been Blair and Chuck, Chuck and Blair.
Chuck is a gross, drunk, slobbering fool of a man. Blair deserves much better! Like dan! Dair<3

@Japansepuppy2481 *I can't stand Chuck anymore.

Blair saw the reception that Chuck was drunk.
She came to him, knowing that he was drunk. Blair finishes his stupidly information about the engagement. after beating the victim is preparing for a party on the occasion of the engagement ... have fun jumping around the house and dreaming of the throne. And the violence does not remember.

I hate the writers of Gossip Girl
To the writers of Gossip Girl were the brain froze or became insane to do something like this
Do not understand why writers write Gossip Girl so bad and disgusting scenes

I felt awful for Blair... until she went back to him in the finale! This relationship is so abusive and masochistic it's fuckin unbelieveable!

Chuck has many faults but also it has many virtues
Chuck is very young still
And sometimes to mature it is necessary to commit many mistakes
Though I hate the writers for what they did with Chuck

Shame on the people who feel bad for Chuck here. He almost punched her in the face and she ended up injured. Feel bad for Blair.

This is abuse! How can people just sit there and make excuses for him?! He tried to rape Serena, and Jenny and now Blair. And he gave her to his uncle in exchange for a hotel. Not cool Chuck.

Cry for Chuck
FridayEli 7 months ago
Lmao everyone needs to calm down. Naturally, growing up the way Chuck did he would be a little fucked up mentally ESPECIALLY when it comes to things that are so foreign to him like love, and people need to understand that. Hey, I love Chuck Bass/Ed and I find it interesting the way he's slowly letting go of the side of him his father created. Of course moments like this will happen to him, but they've been becoming less and less. Why? Because his character is developing.
"Abusive." LMAOO, YEAH

@LaureneB82 I'm sorry - it's just really annoying for me to see all this hate towards Chuck for ONE thing he did. I love Chair, and I miss them like crazy and I've been seeing so many different arguments and points of view lately - it's driving me nuts.

Chuck is starting to crack up isn't he? So much of who he is is wrapped up in Blair, I think she's the only person who ever really loved him.
