  • JUST got the album in the mail!!! ! SO far so good !

Round here one of my all time fav from ANY band

Im gonna say this is their equivalent to U2's "BAD"

  • God, that was a trip. Fuckin' love this song. Every version.

  • why did they change it so much? I like this so much better

  • anyone have these full lyrics? not the ones to the A&EA version?

  • Has kind of a more alternative sound to it, not so...coffeehouse per se?

  • the bridge to this song is so awesome.

  • That bass is so AMAZING! CC are my favourite band but this version....god, I love it so much.

  • @BlackOhioSky - Hey, I played bass on this track - I also wrote the bassline / music to this song under the black Ohio sky in Kent a couple of years before moving to California and joining the Himalayans - Dave Janusko

  • @davex1x You are amazing!!!!!!!! Love Counting Crows so much!!! And I just bout this album!!!! Reunion pehaps?!?!

  • It's so awesome to see such a popular song in its original setting, raw and unrefined, sincere and untampered. Adam Duritz is such an orginal and rare artist. =)

  • um site aonde eu possa achar musicas deles !

  • This is really awesome to hear the original. Thanks for posting.

  • love it, was a bit staggered at first.. but I love hearing how songs morph and get reinterpreted . I love the different lyrics too.

  • The lyrics are a bit hodgepodge, but I like this more than the CC version. The bass just kicks so much ass.

  • I really like the counting crows version and it's good to see earlier interpretations of this song.

I have to say I like the CC's version better because this mix of the song is incredibly unbalanced, with the bass waay too high and the guitars delay being used for rhythm, It completely drowns out the vocals.

I also like that the CC's version is much more intricate and dynamic.

  • You're mistaken sir. This song is not an "earlier interpretation". This is the original. Period. The reason the quality is low and the song is unbalanced is partly because of the fact that this song was probably live. But think about it. The bass is high because it's Marty Jones playing. He's the fucking man.

  • @pantheraonca15g - the bass is Dave Janusko playing

  • I think this proves what sort of power a producer has in tweaking a band's sound. You listen to this version; which was really Adam's sound for years (real raw & distorted). When they recorded AAEA, T-Bone Burnett, who produced it, had them switch up the heavy bass for an organ and songs like "Omaha" and a much different "Round Here" were born. It's just staggering to hear the difference; even during the early AAEA demo recordings. You could say, T-Bone made the 'Crows into stars.

  • so spook...I see Charlie up front in the picture...I know Adam and Dave formed the Crows..so is Dave not there?...it sounds like Ben on guitar...but can't tell from the pic....this is fascinating stuff...thanks man for posting this!

  • Well actually according to wikipedia (could be wrong) Dave was the producer for these demo recordings or something like that I dont know.

  • heh..."I don't know"...seems to be a recurring theme of the song anyways!...thanks once again for the post spook!

  • sounds like red hot chili peppers and counting crows had a baby.

  • heh...got it spook finally....awesome...kinda like the Crows and...Journey?...thank god they slowed down...god some record producer said "sound like Jefferson Starship...or Journey...or Bon Jovi... (I actually like all those bands...somewhat.)...lol this is so different I can't wait to play it for my daughter and son....thank god...they found their own groove...thanks spook!...you're great!

  • LOL....it does sound like Flea is playing bass!

  • marty jones on bass there

mr jones was written about marty jones, an old friend of adam's

  • Comment removed

  • I mean that this version is better than crows' version althought Crows is my 3rd most favourite band (now maybe 2nd - The frames) but this version is completly perfect

  • sounds more like a band of the era probably should have... I like that CC sound a little braver/less pubescent than this

  • Great song.

    Great band.

Simply brilliant as are any other versions by CC.

  • all i can say is this is fantastic... duritz always strikes something deep in my soul and this actually made me shudder.

    brilliant. just... brilliant.

  • Must hear this version again!! This is the BEST!!

  • I have always loved Adam now I know why!@!!

  • that bass line is so f**kin great i listen to this song non-stop 5/5!!!!!!!

  • isn't it just? man, drives me wild...

  • jadore ce groupe ceci est une belle découverte pour les fans garantis jadore cette version

  • Clearly the beginnings of a supremely intellectual mind, with lyrics and music!!! Adam Duritz is the most soulful, sensational singer and writer of our times! He can change the lyrics to a song and make it better with each performance! Everyone should purchase this CD for the beginnings of the Counting Crows!

  • And surely the only one who can get away with it.Gifted one!!!

  • @seaangelrainqueen This song was written by guitarist Dan Jewett. I jammed with him for 3 months, playing bass. Dan was replaced before the Counting Crows debut album with the new version on it.
