My ex-girlfriend (who indidentally is madder than a box of frogs) took to Karekare. I'd waited about 7 years to visit the place, having only known about its existence through following signposts that started with a Lloyds Bank Tv commercial.
Like I say Megan had never even heard of the movie, and we went there impromptu. When we got there she started doing cartwheels on the shore, just like Anna Paquin here. It was the first thing she did.
You will rarely find a stretch of beach anywhere in the world with as much character as Karekare, location of these scenes. There's a toilet around 10 minutes walk away but that's it for buildings. A truly special, haunting place.
how does a film so beautiful and haunting as "the piano" lose to a depressing film like "schindlers list" at the oscars. i've seen both films and this is infinitely better
@tophatcontrol In reply to this, this film is regarded as a few of my lectures favourite films - which is one reason why we have to study it (Performing Arts BA Course) and perform a presentation on it - Because this film has alot of throughline and meaning to it.. Everyones entitled to an opinion :) and yes there are alot of people who hate this movie - hell some people fell asleep when this film was screened in my lecture.
It's just not teenagers who find alot of meaning in it thats all :)
I'm the one who needs help? you are the douch bag with nothing better to do than come on youtube videos and ruin great movies for people who are smart enough to get them. And for no other reason than the fact that your tiny little brain cannot comprehend the meaning. Than you make ridicuolus and completely biased acusations like "The only people who think this is deep are teenagers" and you tell me I need help? FUCK YOU!
I'm not in jail and I dont need psychiatric help, you just decided to fuck around with me on a really, really bad day. For the record, you are still an idiot no matter how my day is going.
No, not everybody who disagrees with me is a know nothing jagoff, just you. And for the record, if you think the only people who think this movie is deep and meaningfull are teenagers, I can promise their are a great many renound film chritics, historians, scholars, academics and all around great intelectuals who would greatly agree to differ. Not that that matters to a wee brain like you I'm sure. So you can go and fuck yourself sideways you dumb fuck, retardville, assclown, deuchbag.
Than what the fuck are you doing watching scenes from it? Go watch "Transformers 2" and quit ruining "The Piano" for the rest of us you know nothing know-it-all jagoff.

The simple gesture of looking back at her and bowing his head.
A Soliloquy of endearing compassion, a wordless devotion. Incredible.

00:29- The radiant smile on Holly Hunter's face as she plays and watches her daughter says it all. A lovely film.

@jferkfjkj the difference between this movie and schindlers list is that this one is unforgetable, so you don't really need an oscar.

this is so one of the best movies ever to be made. W.O.N.D.E.R.F.U.L.L soundtrack and actors. pure perfection.

You sure waste a lot of time on this "pretentious crap". You don't have to be embarrassed that secretly, you really love it.
