At the time of the apology it is clear to me that he is still in the mindset of a VICTIM which will get him nowhere. So first he has to realize that he has noone else to blame for this but himself. And then he has to explore it.

I've thought about this thing so much. keithdavidkeith's comment made some sense out of it all for me.
I do think that was the best apology he was capable of at the time. It becomes apparent that his self reflection had yet to begin and I don't think he knew what he had done yet let alone how to apologize for it.
He doesn't have to find the truth on behalf of any political situation or any other racists, only himself. but he does have to TAKE RESPONSIBILITY.

you can kinda tell by the way he acts that hes a little phased out. i do alot of comedy, and at times i get so happy or sad or frightened or crazy, i just phase out. i can hear what im saying, i can see that its bad, but that side of me that ive unleashed takes control. its a scary experiance, and one you get off stage, or living room or anyplace your preforming at, you feel bad. its one of the worst experiances you can go through. but that word is still wrong and always will be.

I think he's such a talented actor that he goes into character and looses track of what he's saying, he didn't mean it, he probably didn't even realized it happened until he was finished, and also, he didn't know he was being filmed.
