  • When I play this it lasts about five minutes...

  • Great fun to watch and listen to you play that piece !

    THank you.

    VS

  • This piece makes Malmstein's arpeggios from hell look like they were from one of the nicer parts of purgatory. Then again, he's classically trained, I'm sure he can play this well.

  • holy wow!!

  • Cacete.

  • arr

  • @neongala5 arr :)

  • Amazing!

  • i tried to play this, but its too fucking intense...

  • @ewmehmo

    Not if you practice slowly.

  • wow, real mente la version más virtuosa que vi de este estudio

  • Very fantastic....

  • hey matt, my teacher recently saw you in Tennessee, and he loved the way you played scales. in case its secret, i wont share it here, but anyway, i think its incredible! thanks

  • lets see a metal guitarist who can sweep like that! ;)

  • @LifeisforGuitar he was a metal guitarist

  • this is garbage

  • @virtuosisimo How so?

  • Just watching this makes me want to, just kinda not do anything ever. Wish i could do this :(

  • I thought I was the king of arpeggios when I finally learned Jason Becker's Serrana. Damn.

  • Love it. wonder who made the guitar?

  • amasing!

  • This is the best performance I've ever seen.

  • 12 people are envious

  • im jealous of anyone that can play this

  • @Biake22 Classical guitar's for anyone, but only if you like a total and complete musical understanding that comes only from decades of study. lol I'm not even close yet! XD

  • just incredible

  • this is the softest left hand for this peace on youtube. it floats like a feather like it should do

  • i;ll play around with my arpegiator on reason instead thank you

  • monster!!! :D

  • He's speedy, but he's not just focused on the technical side - his changes in volume, tone, etc. definitely interpret the piece in an interesting and worthwhile direction.

  • I play electric guitar and I love neoclassical metal. Would I like classical guitar? I love melody and the voicing in classical guitar, but I don't know if I would like the limit to finger style speed. Would I like violin?

  • @Biake22 If you're playing just to play speedy stuff why play at all? There's fun in playing speedy stuff of course but it gets...boring after you've played your millionth note.

  • Fingerstyle shred!!

  • sweep :)

  • holy cow.

  • Faster faster!! :)

  • amazing!

  • Really respect this guy! First person I met who went from electric to classical and is great at both

  • Very good, congratulations. What a pity that the recording quality is so bad...

  • amazinggg dynamics and control...wow

  • I learned this one right after the Mary had a little lamb, great beginner tune

  • @Quantumew haha same man :)

  • @Quantumew Haha Nice.

  • @Quantumew : You lucky guy, I started directly with this having no chance to play mary had a little lamb .... ;-)

  • WTF!!!

  • Your arpeggios sound like butterflies our water from a spring !

    Beautiful, marvellous and exorbitant ! ! !

Yo've given something to my heart what I'll never reach with my playing.

It's a hard piece and you made music & magic with it, so keep on playing---I hope you'll know that you are superior and kissed by a higher power.......:)

  • Uhh truly masterfull

  • ami? Is this what you are talking about in your CGB interview?

  • viva villa vivo em sua sonoridade

    parabéns pela ótima performace

    um forte abraço

  • I think your fingers are possessed.

  • Holy moly. Beautiful. I just started playing these etudes, and might leave this one alone now.

  • I love the 'almost' Fist pump at the end. Haha The Metal instincts were ready to kick in. I appreciate all the work you put into learning that piece and the practice.

  • awsome!

  • holy fvcken sh... i didnt know anyone could play that fast.

  • bravo maestro!

  • Incredible.

  • Incredible.

  • Why is he using both a footstool AND the guitar support? Interesting.

  • @cjbidwell Don't quote me - but I believe the instrument he's playing is smaller than a regular "concert" size classical. I know a few players who are going that direction (brighter/ better projection) - and they also use both a stool and a knee cushion.

  • there is only one reason a person would play this piece in at a concert: show off. He plays it darn good, but "why" is my question.

  • @zadigjaja I concer while it was an exceptional performance it did seem quite frivolous

  • @zadigjaja Flash is what sells - even in classical music. That's why the major symphonies play the same stuff year after year - it's all about the sizzle. If all we played was "serious" repertoire, trust me, there would be no place at all to play and no one at all to listen, other than the small handful of music scholars or critics (who generally are as broke as the musicians). It takes patrons with bucks to keep classical music alive as it is - gotta please the masses.

  • GottfriedSchmidius que ai Hermano

    lo mismo pense yo

    jajajajajaja

    pense en meterlo al repertirio

esta bien bonita la pieza y si quesa para metal en electrica

    jajajajaja

    un saludote hermano

y felicidades a quien interpreta esta cancion

    y Gracias a Villa Lobos

  • This is the best performance I've ever seen of this piece.

    Absolutely flawless, please record more.

  • that's cool perfect speed . . . . how many month to get the speed???

  • about 240 maybe?? :-)

  • Este güey está bien cabrón!!!! Esto ya está cerca de la técnica para tocar metal en eléctrica. De respeto.

  • damn

  • that is perfect speed if you ask me as it works so well with this piece.

  • beautiful

  • muy bien

  • Holy crap.

  • i was just about to say that

  • super

  • That's beautiful... congratulations!

  • As much as one can hear the music in the noisy surroundings, this seems to be an outstanding performance. Congratulations.

  • Watching for Julliard auditions in a couple years. Totally blown away by both the skill and musicianship of this. Kinda just makes me want to stop trying. Or at least pick a different etude lol

  • well i disagree with most of you who think this is to fast. It's fits and the sound is amazing... I could not pull that off :P

  • que velocidad tan cerda que man tan duro¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • Makes Steve Vai look simple.

  • nice comment.

  • Jesus.

  • Christ.

  • iiiiihaaaaaa

  • OH! This is Orgasmic! Oh!

  • Greatly talented guitarist but the speed is too fast even for this etude... there were some bars where some notes are not audible and the rhythm changed... anyway, being on stage for a guitar competition playing this etude that fast is awesome! Congratulations.

  • Villa-Lobos

  • Villa-Lobos

  • Villa-Lobos

  • this is not so stupid, he plays the etude so fast and so well that it looks like a piece for piano with arpeges !

  • First time i heard this song and i must say its pretty fucking sweet!

  • Tennessee would be rocked by VT cous

  • Incredible!

  • Hello Matt

An absolute inspirational performance, the clarity and projection was just great.

from another Matt and guitarist from london UKxxx

  • BRASIL! =D

  • who said shred was new? lol

  • Uhm, you tell me!

  • Mr.Psycho Blvd.

  • Nice. Thought I was the only one that remembered those days

  • Parabens por esta execuçao!!!

    S. de Bona

    Lisboa

  • Matt, not too bad. I've taught you well young padowan. Your Chevelle is slow. BAM!!!!!!!!!!!

  • to just come out and sit down.. and then kabooom.. do this... amazing...

  • Mr. Palmer, your playing is amazing.

  • Met him before. He seems like a very nice guy, fellow guitarist.

  • mind. blowed.

  • except some little mistakes but nice playing

  • This is a very difficult piece. Nicely played. For the other post, the cusion he is using is a dynarette guitar cushion-they rule.

  • Awesome job! I'm also interested in the cushion you're using to help support the guitar. Could you share what it's called and where you found it? Cheers from Florida...

  • I have one - it's not very good. You're better off with an ErgoPlay.

  • brilliant! that in my opinion is the perfect speed!

  • it's kinda slow, could you play a little faster? haha

    just kidding, it's awesome!!!

  • thats what was in his head when he composed it! thanks for posting that.

  • muito bom! nem mesmo o mi(1:22)atrapalhou a interpretação!

  • Awesome!!! My little brother is a GUITAR GOD! His fingers are PICKS OF DESTINY! -David- WE WANT MORE VIDEOS!

  • Amazingly fast..! I'm not loving it -, but still.....its impressive to see some fingerwork of that standard.

    Hats off.

  • The way Alvaro Pierri plays this , and the way Palmer plays this are equally incredible. Depending on what the guitarist can physically do, he will bring different things to a commonly played piece.

  • es el frank gambale de la guitarra clasica! muy rápido che, igualmente buenos dedos.

  • brilliante

  • Great. 5* but...played to fast :-(

  • thats the point.

  • Yep. Allegro does mean allegro people.

  • According to Wikipedia:

    Allegro = fast

Allegrissimo = very fast, but slower than Presto

    Presto = very quickly

Prestissimo = extremely quickly, as fast as possible

The composer indicated 'Allegro', but it is being played here 'Prestissimo'. The speed limit has been well and truly exceeded, resulting in a number of mistakes, which the trained ear can easily discern.

But Matt Palmer is nonetheless a fine guitarist.

  • its just an arpegio study, the faster the better,

  • what fingering do you use to go so fast?

  • the shocker!!!

  • This man is crazy....!!!!

    Excelent...!!!!!

  • this is really great!

I feel the reason for high speed for this piece is to bring a sense of "evolving colors". And this interpretation indeed achieve such effect.

I also somehow feel this piece like "kite in the wind", for no reason...

I'm learning this, but am nowhere near the quality of this performance yet.

  • Matt! That is great!

  • the best I have EVER seen!

  • kick ass

  • I've never heard that piece played that well. Good job!

  • exelente ejecucuon very fast

  • heroic!

  • I'm learning.

I'm going to use this guys performance as an example to how I should sound.

  • Very Great and very fast. I palay also this pieces. Bravo......

  • offf!! perfect!!!

  • nice muy buena interpretacion me han dado ese estudio para interpretarlo ``çuds lo toca muy bien fabulosamente

  • amazing.

  • I've never heard it played that fast. I can't decide if I like it better, it sounds like a completely different piece. Really clear articulation. Great performance!

Interviewer: why do you play that passage so fast?

    Segovia:Because I can.

  • Nice job. Can someone post the fingers for this etude no. 2? I know all the etudes except this one!

  • Wow truly amazing. I have but one question for you sir, are there tabs.=P

  • great , 5 stars *****

  • is this a hanika guitar ? never saw someone play like this. iam stuned

  • I have one like that, proud!

  • i played this on my public exam this year, but still i've never even touched this way of playing. damn man, amazing job.

  • Hey palmer glad to see your doing well even though this is complete opposite Slayer lol

Write me back sometime Sam Gillis

  • you are one of the most fluent virtuosos I've seen for some time.

  • 23,000 views in 12 months-- you're a rockstar.

  • nice..

  • ITS VERY GOOD!!!!!!

  • omg!

  • Wonderful - raises the heckles on my neck.

I've heard its true you can play this while making a sandwhich?

Well.. you look that comfortable doing it it seems likely.

  • Very,very great!

  • I had the honor of seeing him play for our Guitar Heroes class at Texas A&M University and I was BLOWN away with the pieces he played for us. He's the best I've ever seen and love that I got the opportunity to see him live.

  • Violate my piece!

  • You Kick Ass!

  • well done! in time the performer will vintage.

  • im going to start practicing this piece, could someone tell me the correct right hand fingering?

  • supreme guitarist

  • Wow. You are super relaxed. You make it look like it's as easy as watering the lawn.

  • Great!!!

  • thank you for the THOUSANDS of hours of hard work it took to get to this point. That was very nice-keep up the good work-good luck.

  • the best i've heard posted!!! he's got rhythm as well as speed.

i wonder if anybody can tell me if he's playing a 3/4 scalle guitar? i looks kind of small.

  • It is a standard size instrument.

  • Etude no. 2 is very difficult, and it should be played fast.

What a great virtuoso you are!

  • Attention! This is a concert live! We were recorded in a small room (which is easy)! The virtuosity is for the few and musician with certainty is complete!

  • Funny, how some people are threatened by such virtuosity. They hear someone play fast and they immediately think - 'that's all he can do.'

It's bullsh!t jealosy, ignorance. Maybe true in some cases but not with Matt Palmer

  • can you play more faster then this?

  • It sounds like a piano piece! Amazing.

  • Violate???? how? HE frickin pnwed it

  • Can you explain your comment?

  • PERFECTO

  • Damn, he's awesome

  • very fast !!

  • yes i agree

  • QUE DEDOS !! estas loco....

  • ANIMALLLLLL

  • Awesome... I'm going to try to play it in my piano!

  • grande velocità e pulitissimo, first prize meritato

  • WOW!

Does anyone have the sheet music for this?

  • Amazing, thank you for sharing
