  • why no sound?

  • They should put that kick start on lawn mowers, seems like it would work a lot better...

  • ill give u 5000

  • cool engine!! love to see that in a mini bike or something

  • Good Day,

I had 1 of those engines!! Just like it. Grandfather gave it to me, when a boy. I kept it for years..it was hard to start, but ran..

I gave it away! Oops...and another 30's Briggs along with it. Also had "Iron Horse" engine as well. Similar kick start.. Heavy little brutes.

  • i love how you start it

  • wow crap today is way over thought. I love how simple that kick starter is. Great engine

  • nice chucks

  • thats the sickest starter ever

  • Continued from below

It was very hard to start until I heard a couple of old timers at an engine meet talking about a check ball that is supposed to be in the fuel tank pickup just under the fuel line. I went home and took off the fuel line and, sure enough, no check ball. I am a marine mechanic and I had saved a few balls out of Mercruiser carb kits and the smaller one fit perfect. The WMB always starts in 2 or 3 kicks now.

  • Valves on air cooled motors are noisier due to larger tolerances than liquid cooled.motors.

Maytag made their own engines for some time and when they quit producing their engines the task was taken up by B&S.

I have a model WMB which was my first vintage engine. It is also the best runner. It doesn't have the belt guard and the fuel tank mount is missing along with the flex exhaust and ball muffler but otherwise complete.

  • would you be interested in selling it??

  • sorry, this one is not for sale.

  • @patishood I have this engine that is hooked to a small air compressor, as well as several other very old briggs engines that I would sell or trade. contact me at chuck71256_2000@yahoo.com

  • I have never seen one with a kick start.

  • they had gas powered washing machines? did not know that.

  • Most rural areas didn't have electricty prior to WWII, gas powered washing machings were very common and popular as a labor saving device.

  • makes sense

  • put it on a bike nice kick start

  • i have a few of the 6hp vanguards(briggs and stratton ohv motors) and even the valve train is reasonably noisy have been checking into adjustments but no luck so far

  • Nice demonstration!

  • i dunno about you, but i dont think i would trust a gasoline engine running inside my house even if the pipe vented outside.

  • lol same, i sure as hell wouldn't

  • I enjoyed the video...you show a couple nice angles and its nice to see vintage equipment operate. Some people scrub and paint their stuff...I think your engine looks correct as is.

  • thats sweet how the tube carries the exhaust outside your house or whatever

  • Well, it's ok because my old Briggs & Stratton "A" had a rather noisy valvetrain (and, of course, it ran slower than this)

  • Most of the engine's noise, I believe, comes from the valvetrain.

  • Engine runs pretty quiet for some reason the camera amplified valve noise.

  • ya that does happen with cameras, very nice engine by the way

  • ok.... odd
