Also using the "track up" map setting will make it like an electronic compass - once you walk it will change its orientation accordingly. This works well in addition to the off road and pedestrian settings.
When you arrive at your cache site, and just before you go to the satellite page, you may find that the Nuvi trys to "stick" to the road as you go off over the country side. Obviously this is a desirable feature when driving, but very annoying when out with the Nuvi in your hand.
Try switching to "off-road mode/pedestrian mode" to fix this problem.
for some reason when i use the nuvi to geocache it doesnt put me very close to the area. Is there another setting that I need to use in the garmin to make it more accurate whenever you are walking somewhere?

maybe try going to your settings and turning on the "EGNOS/WAAS" feature, which uses ground stations across the country to correct satellite signals.
