Despite not having a large amount of acting skills, I could immediately see the character of Aang when you read those short lines, which were in my opinion much better than Noah Ringer's entire dead-pan performance in the movie. Noah Ringer has the charm for the Aang character. The cartoon shows much more a blend of races than a pure race for each nation. Noah is the one for me.

But then if you look at the movie again, it isn't the actor's fault that the movie was so bad, it is certainly the directors. He killed sokka's humor (which I loved in the original cartoon), He murdered Katara's motherly like personality and killed Aangs's silliness.

when i look at avatar Aang is pretty much the only character i personally believe to be white with those huge eyes and caucasian skin.
so if i would take it on looks i wouldnt pick this kid. Nevertheless great martial skills tough.

@IndigoCat17 Aang's vegetarianism and his reluctance to fight are based on Buddhist and Taoist (both very Asian religions) teachings that encourage such things. His clothes are even similar to what the monks of those religions wear. His fighting style is called Baguazhang, a Chinese martial art. His name is also similar to the Malaysian and Filipino words for air, though I'm not sure if that's intentional or just a cute accident.
Why couldn't Aang's actor be Asian?

@paleobc65 No, Indians are South Asians. India is way too far to the west to be in the southeast. Southeast Asia is Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, and all that good stuff.
East Asia would be China, Japan, Taiwan, et cetera. Although some argue that you could include Southeast Asia with East Asia, in terms of language and culture, Southeast Asia would be a better fit in their own category.
Please get your facts straight before you accuse someone of racism.

Hollywood is against the ethnic community in lead roles and unless your Will Smith/Uncle Tom... you would never make it in Hollywood. Night Shyamalam is a prime example of the overwelming racism in the film industry and it needs to stop. Noah Ringer/ Aang is white / asian calms to be a black belt I think the boy needs more practice because his martal arts is shit. Being half white counts to get lead roles in Hollywood unless you Will Smith/Uncle Tom.......

I swear dude, your martial art skills are superb, and your acting skills are much better than Noah's. You would of made the perfect aang.
But then if you look at the movie again, it isn't the actor's fault that the movie was so bad, it is certainly the directors. He killed sokka's humor (which I loved in the original cartoon), He murdered Katara's motherly like personality and killed Aangs's silliness.
But I will tell you this, If he ruin's toph, I will personally murder him.

I thought his acting was... mediocre, not OMG PERFECT, but I do have to admit. His martial arts is really impressive. Better than the current "Awwng" Eh. I think that anyone would've been better. This kid by a long shot.

its the japanese style of animation which is to be partially blamed. the japanese like their toons to be wide eyed to convey emotions more effectively. moreover, the creators based this series off from japanese anime in both style and structure. but don't be mislead, AANG IS FUCKING ASIAN!!!

Wow, he would've been a great Aang. It's a shame he wasn't selected although it's kind of a mixed blessing considering how badly the movie was. Perhaps they'll redo the movie and do it right and cast the movie properly. The only problem I see is the acting such as knowing beats but he does have potential.
