Out of those 3 bands you mentioned, only Sabbath was metal. GN'R was hard rock (like early aerosmith) and Zep was CLASSIC rock. Sabbath was the only TRUE heavy metal band at that point, followed by bands like Deep Purple and Judas Priest.

I was a huge Nirvana's fan before Silverchair's, but the more I listened to Silverchair, the more I think there are some music that Silverchair made (I'm not talking about Young Modern album) that Nirvana could never make.

I like silverchair but I have to believe they rip off some of the music and riffs from other bands there is this song, and then there is the song suicidal dreams which I like the song but it sounds the same as Alice in chains bleed the freak at the front which by the way both this nirvana song and Alice in chains song came out before both of silverchairs.
Yeah, the songs sound very similar, but they were influenced, not a bad thing at all. Daniel John is awesome. But, Silverchair can make much more differential music, and we never got to hear what all Kurt Cobain could've done. So, both great bands, just wish Kurt never got too tied up with drugs and shit. I think Daniel John is more light hearted now with Natalie and everything but who knows. Silverchair is under rated in my book.

Their recent albums are horrible. It's a new band. A radio friendly POP band now, with a singer who has becoming flaming.

oh my god...yeah silverchair is good but this is nirvana, the band that gave us smells like teen spirit and changed the music industry's direction. they were unbelievably big at the time and kurt is a legend. you cant compare silverchair to them...

@Silverchairbabe kurt played his whole life. silverchair only got famous because kurt died and mtv needed a replacement. bands like local h, bush, and verbena all got looked at and put into mainstream because of kurt's murder

@ossguitarist1 u mean suicide. the whole murder thing is bullshit. i know a lot about nirvana. ive been a fan for years, and so i have read biographys and all kinds of shit. kurt was fucked up, and killed himself as planned since he was a teen. plus things that were going on in his life helped him solidify his decision to end his life.

Be sure. I like much more Silverchair but I can't agree.
Respect for Nirvana.. Silverchair's existance depended on them.

You stfu. Silverchair were a very popular group from 1995-1997. Then they got out of the public limelight and only the dedicated fans followed what they did next (Worldwide). YES, they have ALWAYS been popular in their home country, but Nirvana are in the LEGENDS category (I personally can't stand Nirvana), but to compare these 2 bands on a international level is ridiculous.
