There's a moment, there's always a moment, "I can do this, I can give into this, or I can resist it", and I don't know when your moment was, but I bet you there was one. ----> WONDERFUL
Nobody is perfect and just because someone doesn't love you the way you want them to, doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have. No other movie has shown me the wide range of emotions when in a relationship. This movie is amazing!
"Como? Como funciona? Como você faz isso com alguém?..."
"Há um momento, há sempre um momento: Eu posso fazer isso, eu posso ceder ou eu posso resistir. Eu não sei quando, mas eu aposto que existiu esse momento."
I love when Alice said "You're a piece of shit." No one could have said it better. Exactly what I would have said to Dan actually...
You know, I've heard about people cheating on their partners with someone unimportant, i.e., where there was no 'need' involved but Dan's excuse that he cheated with another woman BECAUSE she didn't 'need' him is unbelievable and disgusting, at least to me...
but it happens alot....en its true...when women give their all to someone ..the guy finds it boring after...guys want to be challeneged...en rejected...its sick i cant agree more
men and women are different and our motives and reasoning diff as well...when she says there's a moment, there's always a moment guys experience those moments far more often..it may be a one sided opinion but i think women are wired differently and therefore shouldn't judge men through their eyes..its a biological diff..men need to pursue and women need stability and prefer a provider..its based on the evolutionary naure of human beings
"It's because...she doesn't need me".WOW. I remember first seeing this in theatres back in Dec.2004 (I was 20) and having no idea what that meant, and thinking it was kinda backwards. But after having relationship and attraction experience in the few years since then, it totally makes sense, and it's not just true for men, women too.I have to admit, and yes I'm aware it may be a bad thing, but I'm more attracted to someone who doesn't necessarily 'need' me as opposed to someone who really does.
You always love them and give them everything you have. It's never enough. Doesn't matter how pretty, funny, smart, sweet you are. They're never content.
@CultSphere98 You know, that line makes me laugh! She doesn't NEED him....she loves him, it's the only reason she stays. Shez the only character i liked in this movie; she was independant, intelligent and untameable. As the ending showed...nobody really knew her at-all.
@rebe1angel I agree. I think we are to identify with Alice, or should I say Jane. For all her stoic independence and her emotional toughness, she appears as the most vulnerable figure in the film.
this is the most beautiful scene of the movie, I feel for her.... i totally know how it feels... and i cry every time i watch this... there is always a moment , and i dont know when your moment was, But i bet you there was one....
The whole scene needs to be put together for this. Brilliant in every aspect. How could he ever leave her, she loved him and gave him everything she had.
it's because Anna is a replacement for his mother. As Jane says later "He wasn't a bloke, he was a little boy." - Dan needs mothering from a woman who won't emotionally rely on him - vice versa. Something's missing in him because his mum died.
Yes, those are the best lines "Oh, as if you had no choice? There's a moment, there's always a moment, "I can do this, I can give into this, or I can resist it", and I don't know when your moment was, but I bet you there was one."
This movie describes the most intense relationship I have ever had, to end like this...
Natalie is great at crying in movies. I think it's her haircut and small frame that reminds me of the little Natalie from The Professional, which I think is by far her best film.
Between Natalie Portman and Clive Owen, they both made this movie. I can't stop watching Clive's scenes as he (his character) and Anna are nearing their heated argument.
And when Natalie cries, it's just heartwrenching. I agree, this is one of the best scenes, but luckily, it's accompanied with Clive Owen's heart-stopping performance.

Most heartbreaking moment when she asks: how, how do you do this to someone?

May I regard this film as "philosophical"? Some of lines I had heard already are naturally thought-provoking <3

Dan: "I love you!"
Alice: "Where?"
Look at his face trying to understand what she meant with that. Priceless!

"WHAT? How can you cheat on NATALIE PORTMAN!?"
"WHAT! How can you hit NATALIE PORTMAN!?"
"WHAT! How can you leave.... you know.

I saw this movie back in 2004; many of these words were said when I broke up with the man who I thought was the one.
It's just so honest. And Natalie Portman's performance just remarkable.
