This is from the 1956 NBC production Project Twenty: The Jazz Age. What we should be hearing on the soundtrack is the narration by Fred Allen (this must have been one of his very last projects) with a much more appropriate original score composed by Robert Russell Bennett. It's been released on DVD by Shanachie Entertainment.
@ReverendWayne You are so right@Reverend Wayne! Go see my FLAPPER vid called the SOPHOMORE to see the twenties as it really was! College life anyways. I think I have a great song for it.! You can even sing along! Check it out. :))
My great-grandmother used to tell me stories about the SMOOTH JAZZ like this that they used to listen to. 'til the depression when they could no longer afford MP3-78 players. ??
Ditto! Might I add that "tvdays" needs to get off his lazy a-- & quit watching TV and pick up a book or two on the Jazz Age, that is if he can read. Maybe he'll opt to watch other You Tubes vids on the 20s (who get it right) instead & quit posting crap such as the malapropism titled: "jazz era 7 . . ." Excuze me while I set my hair on fire!
Zimmer man sang 'dont need a weather man to see which way the wind blows' this kind of dumbing down of the delights possible, comes from sheer laziness, could of found the right syncopation, but didn't bother!
does anyone care that so many fans of twenties dance/music feel that this backing track completely destroys any enjoyment from viewing this wonderful link to the past?
just for kicks, here a 20s history fact. most liqour was so watered down in the prohibition, that artificial flavors had to be added to mask the cheapness. tobacco was great quality. weed was legal, as were most drugs. 20's era jazz was happier and faster than it is nowadays.
really cute footage. criminal whoever set it to this jazz musak crap. for an era with such a vast selection of amazing music, seems it would be really difficult to get it this wrong.
This looks like it was at some college for boys dorm with the booze sexy dancers for the college boys. Most colleges in the 1920s were all men schools Yale, Harvard, Stanford, University of California
this film is interesting, but it reduces the 1920s into a series of cliches. We still do that, to every age. There were so many ways to express yourself in the 1920s, I hope we can see more variety. The commentary sounded very 1950s... Sylvester of Times Square
We are more victorian now then in the 1920s with the anti-smoking, anti drinking and anti-drug plus few dates we staying single since no marriage works anymore due to two income package or whatever is the problem marriage don't work anymore since the late 1800s
@megstubetops Wow, what has happened to the world in 2011? Its gotten DULL!, all the Sex and alcohol laws! Those were the good ole days! when people could have fun with out , M.A.D.D. or M.A.F.S. (Mothers against fun stuff) or the FCC, or the EPA, or the FDA, ,, No wonder no one wants to leave their computer or Wii station nowadays! you can get arrested for laughing nowadays!

The contemporary music was a terrible idea! It destroys the whole mood that the visual would have created. Instead, this is garbage.

Yes, please put in contemporary music.

Hideous music. Smooth jazz should be banned. Love the footage, but it needs a sound track badly.
