omg, I jus heard this for the first time last night and I've prolly listened to it like 20 times home and at work. its soo mellow, the title describes it perfectly. When the violin (or whatever that instrument it is) comes in I could fuckin blow a load no homo
Part of the This American Life soundtrack I hear EVERY Sunday. They play SO many great tunes in the background on that show on NPR, and THIS is just one of them. Trip to the Hop!
I think what you meant to say was that Rjd2 makes music that sounds like DJ Shadow. Shadow was releasing material nearly 8 years before Rjd2 was out with the Mhz crew and his solo work.
It means he didn't actually create any of the music. He hears an old record and will take the drum beat, lyrics from a song in the 20's and take that, pianos from another song... And then he combines it all together. Absolutely amazing way of creating music, and insanely hard... That's what makes this song even better.
That he has taken parts of another person playing the drums, and then put them together to this, in this example just repaeting the same piece over and over again.
maybe but don't it sound great !!! have u ever tried putting lots of sounds together and still being able to generatye this much soul and passion into a piece of music ??
It won't, however happen when people surround themselves with all that is twee and meaningless in this world, it is akin to burying ones head in the sand, and in the western world where we can learn anything about everything, there really is no excuse.
I would be inclined to disagree regarding that its just peoples taste and opinions. They miss out on so much that is vital, this music, along with all of the great mediums of art serves to open our minds, raising our consciousness of ourselves and the world around us.
We live in a world of suffering, and if people raised their consciousness via opening their minds to forms of art that can teach you something, maybe a raised awareness of all around us could begin to end the suffering.
You won't find anyone on here that will disagree leem.
That's the beauty of DJ shadow, you look on all of his videos be they on you tube or google videos and people are unanimous in their praise of shadow and the other worldly beats this man creates.
This bloke was flying in the 90's, and people that criticise the outsider, his most recent album, show complicit ignorance in ignoring this period of his work. Which is genius. Hey, even Beethoven made some stinkers.
I just got carried away in my last post because alot of comments on videos that i watced and liked had negative comments. I just didnt like the ignorance of it.... but thats just peoples opinions
I do agree with you mate, he is amazing, but you have to respect that other people won't share your oppinion because there's no right or wrong in music taste.
Damn, this song trips me out real nice. But ever since his ' Seein' Thangs' I was like loc'ed out for Shadow. Idk why I never looked up anymore of his songs. I thought it was just a one hit wonder (even though it never blew up that big, as it should have) That song, and this one is great driving at midnight through a big city with the lights and all that, in a comfortable car, a friend, and high as shit, sippin' on a good pot of coffee enjoying a cigarette out the window.
you all sit there havin a go at this guy cause of his methods but if your really gonna pick holes in DJing thats one thing, but at least accept, this is an amazing beautiful song.
And how do the the jonus brothers even come close? Fags
I have so much respect for those so knowledgeable in the art of sampling. I like writing my own music when it comes to electronics, but it takes talent to pull from so many different sources and create a truly musical piece.
I know leeching of other videos is lame, but i'd really appreciate anyone taking the time to give my track "Baker Street Lullaby" a listen and let me know what you think. Thanks!
That logic can apply to all music really. We're all using the someone elses notes and hashing out new melody... omg is that a beat someone else has used? Shit, has someone else said this word in another song?

the music of the jonas brothers is the epitome of new age fagrock. playing simple chords and hip-thrusting in the direction of 12 year old girls is not talent
i will have to heavily HEAVILY disagree with you....
people don't see dj'ing or sampling as an art form....but they are so far from right....especially in the case of DJ shadow....

People need to stop bitching about "sample artists" because I gaurantee you that the people like you who bitch about them couldn't do what they do as good as some of them do it. Sampling is nothing but composing via electronics. It's like saying a great composer isn't talented because he can't play every instrument his piece features. And there was alot in this song that threw off the peice more that BG noise at 1:00 but he communicated what he wanted with those parts and that's what art is.

I liked those vocals and while it's noticable they aren't in the right key I think they fit nicely but I can see how it could bother someone.
