Maybe I'm getting old but the difference between this and music you hear on rock stations today is that the new shit they put out now doesn't make me want to go out and learn to play them on guitar... Am I just old and cranky or do kids actually listen to a Theory of a Deadman song and say "cool man, I'm going to learn that one"??
The six dislikes can suck a big gator dick....This my music when I hit the La. state line after a run to Big D....Always got to hit up Born on the Bayou...Love Fogerty and when I pass the HooDoo capital of Arcadia La. I give a big Rebel Yell!!! Cajun Out!!!
There are those who argue over the 'greatest guitarists of all time' and pick apart their technical abilities; judging heavily on who can cram the most notes into a measure accurately.
Few of the usual suspects make me scrunch up my face into a grimace and bob my head like Fogerty does with his deliciously simple, filthy dirty riffage. When I get bored with music (often), I come back to this.
This performance proves Fogerty is the greatest pure rock n' roll master of the last 40 years. Nobody puts out a better sound than this guy. Great songwriter, guitar player, and even in his 60's the man can belt out this song in the original key as great as ever. My 34 year old ass still can't sing this song without killing my throat! John will be kicking all our butts when he's 80!
One of my favourite all time New Orleans Jazzfest memories: John Fogerty opening his set with "Born on the Bayou". Fogerty had sworn that he would never again perform any CCR songs live, but just a couple of months before the Fest, he changed his mind and blessed everyone with a long list of CCR classics. With the Bayou St. John as the backdrop, friends by my side and the hot sun in my face...it truly doesn't get much better than this.
With CCR and alone, the sound was truly unique and unmatched by any other artist. Like the Beach Boys, this is the perfect example of American music that could never be duplicated by anyone. Timeless, even to this day.
@georgeisupset Yeah, his whole singing, playing, songwriting, performing is one hell of a package. The solidest guy in his trade. And I agree with you about what you said. Perfectly true!
You're right, recently i obtain the full DVD of that concert (great) and John says that the bass are "his good friend George Halpin", or a name like, i'm sure that he says George but i'm not so sure with the name. I advise you to try to get the full concert, the name is Long Road Home. See you
Fantastic. Love the intensity of this; the gritty vocals and John's superb work on the Les Paul. A great song performed by one of the world's greatest performers who I've seen a couple of times recently - man he kicks hard! Go Johnny go!!
@ilikesuzuki No John Fogerty had nothing to do with Hotel California: Song: Hotel California Artist: Eagles Written: 1976 Album: Hotel California Track: 1 of 9 Writers: Don Felder/Don Henley/Glenn Frey Lead Vocals: Don Henley Drums: Don Henley Guitar 1: Don Felder Guitar 2: Joe Walsh Acoustic Guitar: Glenn Frey Bass: Randy Meisner
This was a great version of this song. Great sound quality. If only Doug "Cosmo" Clifford was with him on drums for this tour, then he'd have that original CCR sound down 100%. I still was a bit surprised by this version. A lot better than other versions from his band(s) that I have heard in the past. I still favor the CCRevisited Band over any band John has put together yet.
Somebody was wondering what a hoodoo is, it might be a racoon, not positive though. I remember getting the album born on the bayou in the early 70`s. It was one of those albums the more I listened to it, the more I like it. BOTB is my favourite CCR song no question. John`s voice sounds as good as ever The song matches the album cover. If you see it, you`ll know what i mean.
Check out Kenny Aronoff.....On the Preminition CD "Live" Kennys drumming on the CD is great but on Born On A Bayou, he plays with great groove and fill...Myself being a drummer I listen for the little nuances in the songs, Kenny dint leave anything out from the original recording, he only played it within the same structure but like all of us put his own stamp on it...Its worth checking out......Then again I prefer the slower tempo more groove on this tune..But thats just me..
That's John Molo on the kit. Played all the unforgetable stuff with Bruce Hornsby and The Range. Molo is one of the best drummers on the planet. Just a different time and different interpretation. Having said that.........I agree with you. Molo should have stayed true to the original.
I know him well. Think I'll give him a ring with a little scold for that.
Holy crap, it;s John Molo from Bruce Hornsby and the range on drums!!!
