Dustin i started a dirted tank but the water never changes so i switched to substrate can you give me some advice for next time i want to set up a planted tank?
Hey Dustin! you've helped me a lot in keeping my planted aquarium! Recently I've been thinking of using dirt in my tank, but I'm scared I might kill my fish. I've got about 5 south american cichlids in the tank and I'm wondering if you've got any advice for me before I go on with putting dirt in. Thanks bro! Appreciate it...
HA! I believe so! I actually took the lump dirt from the sellers plant container, for Thinking these grower must be professionals, they must know what to do. On the other hands, substrate sellers' vids keep washing our brains that all the leftover dirt must be cleaned well from the roots before putin it to the tank. Greetings from Jakarta anyway, beautiful daughter you have there.
i just set me up a dirt tank first time doing live plants i cant wait to see how it turns out i appriciate all the info you are putting out there dustin great job
I cut roots when replanting because it lessen the chances of roots snapping or folding put when being put into the substrate. This eliminates roots from getting damaged and deteriorating so it doesn't become excess waste.
It's Benjamin from aquascape.ning.com can you send out the shirt on monday when you send out your plant orders? Also, I can look under my tank as well, I have flourite, and I can tell you that your roots grow way better in dirt than mine in flourite. I will be converting to dirt hopefully this week!!
I was going to pick up some soil today but forgot what kind to get. What kind do you use again. I remember it was some kind of miracle grow organic brand.

I've never used dirt myself, I have used peat moss and clay for the last two years.
The big thing about using these natural substrates is not to disturb the substrate, if you do you'll be in for a big nasty surprise!

@bobmorris85 you can get it out of the water with some big water changes the goal is to capture it in there so only the roots get it
