It's just upsetting that they modeled the movie after the ride but the history of the ride is different in the movie

The story is one of these two: The bride found out the groom was really a pirate and

A Died of Shock

B Died of Heartbreak

C The groom killed her because she disobeyed him by going into the attic and looking through his things. Then he hung himself out of

A Grief

B Insanity

And the curse was to be lifted when the 1000th soul retires to the house, as is in the comics of Haunted Mansion, which is essentially why you ride the ride. In hopes that you're so scared you kill yourself or die any way to be that 1000th soul.

So the movie is /ok/, but doesn't exactly fall in sync with the ride. I enjoyed it. =3

Yeah, I prefer that story, but I never could find out if it was the "official" backstory of the ride or not. Supposedly, him being a sea merchant/pirate is the reason for the ship weathervane on the mansion.

Not too long ago they put a new bride figure in the attic, and the story is that she kills all her husbands. This was done after the movie came out, but has nothing to do with the movie. I don't know quite how the master/hangman/Ghost Host fits into the new story.

There's supposed to be an official back story that the cast members have to know so if you were to ask them, they'd probably tell you. I try to be very knowledgeable about this ride, pulling information directly FROM cast members at Disneyland, the comics, parts from the movie that MAKE sense...But yes, that's why the weather vane is a ship.

And she doesn't, which is sad...her projected form is really nice, but not in flow with the back story. And Gracey wasn't with her- he has his head. ;D
