The Peterbald care a hair losing gene and will lose hair as they age , while the Canadian Sphynx gain hair as they get older. Some Peterbalds are born with a brush type coat and lose it. That is why the brush coat is allowed in the kitten class.

Shammy/Chamois- there is hair, but don't perceive it when looking at the cat, rub backwards and you can notice it, forming charming wrinkles on all body.

Fur Point - tiny bit of hair on extremities - face, feet, and tail;

Brush coat - Varying lengths of wiry coat.

There are different skin/hair/coat types to the Peterbald:

Ultra Hairless - a very bald cat with no sign of any hair at all. Their skin is soft, warm and almost sticky to the touch, forming charming wrinkles on all body.

Smooth bald/Suede - appears hairless, but has a very soft feel of tiny hair, forming charming wrinkles on all body.

Peterbald is absolutely different from Donskoy or Canadian Sphynx. Peterbalds ranging from totally naked cat (much more naked than Canadian Sphynx, for example) to a "brush" kind of hair, that regular cats have. With any type of those, a cat is still Peterbald Sphynx if it looks the way standard describes it.

Allergies arise mainly from the shedding of the skin and not the actual hair. I would maybe advise to go to a breeder and hang out with the cats for awhile and see what happens?

i think you would be, if its pet dander and stuff. sphynxes need extra care since their skin gets dry, but some acually get oily. some acually have to get lotion rubed on their skin from it flaking
