SUN RA IS MY FAVOURITE ARTIST OF JAZZ. HE IS A GENIUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am very deeply frustrated I can't hear all the instruments... bad call on sound guy as I cannot at all hear Sun Ra's very visibly frantic piano playing, some of the saxaphone... Shame, It's nice to hear a genius in his fullest.
If you listen to this music, you hear the sound of the world, the nature, the cities and also of the universe. This is, what "making music" originally ment to be.
@felicksk8 If you read up on Sun Ra and his Arkestra, neither him or any of his band members were on drugs of any kind, as it was forbidden for them to do so. But I suppose you just think this is just noise, right?
mind blowing. sun ra was the sho nuff real deal. what a band and the music on this video is astonishing. i wish i could hear the vocal parts at the end.
if you don't get this music, don't try to over analyze it and don't worry about it. just move on. for me, this is what it means for musicians to completely LOSE themselves in the music. totally awesome.
I saw the Arkestra led by Marshall Allen on Halloween 2001 in lower Manhattan just after the 911 strike. That night, most people were saying they didn't want to go out because of their fear of another terrorist attack. In my opinion.. The Arkestra wiped out all of the evil that night in the city. Even without Sun Ra there, it was Amazing. It's one thing to see this on video, but when you are in the presence of it... IT CHANGES YOU FOR GOOD.
@MyWay17 "One day will happen, it could be happening now, that a voice from another dimension will speak to Earth. You might as well practice and be prepared for it." -Sun Ra
Sun Ra doesn't need categorizations like "Punk" or whatever, in my opinion. This is just superb music. Every great musician who is used by scenes as "he is one of US" is being degraded by this process. He and is arkestra is one for all :)
Arkestra forever!

if we could all realize we're part of the song maybe we'll stop making so much noise.

Sun Ra had a vision for music and he stuck with it-it kept developing and changing to some extent but the man was a unique figure in WORLD music

I suppose I'm just too much a slave to melody. This, like a lot of Chick Chorea, I just don't get.
