Now how did you go about becoming an ALT? I'm planning on wanting to teach English in Japan when I grow up and I was curious how to go about it. >.< Like, are there any programs that let you stay and continue to teach in Japan permanently (some programs are only year contracts and that's it)?
English is my L2.I've been living in the UK for almost 4 years and my language comprehension is fluent but sometimes, when I speak too fast,I make obvious mistakes.Of course I learned English in school, but I only had chance to speak it since 2007.
I love kids and I've been an Au Pair.I would love to be an ALT in Japan since I really like the Japanese culture. But I'm very self conscious about my strong accent and I am afraid it could be a great disadvantage..or is it?
@IfritAxel Hello! Thank you so much for posting your question. The thing about being an ALT is that it's not language comprehension that's important but the way native speakers pronounce things in the English language. So the fact that English is your second-language might work against you. But after saying that, there were quite a few women from the Philippines in my training group who had quite thick accents. So my advice is just try... the worst they can say is "No." Good luck~ (^_^)
Your story made me start tearing up :<
