@rodneyhatch56 Art is a form of self-expression, regardless of it's quality or length. You've no right to judge art because it is not created for you, but for the artist and his perceptions on certain realities. Please, hold your thoughts the next time you think you have something intellectual to say.
all i knew about these guys is that they were from France and were lumped into "black metal"--well I've been sitting on thumb when i could've been listening-this is AWESOME. check out p.h.o.b.o.s.--one man band from France--that is if you like godflesh, swans, khanate etc.
@GoldenRatio always takes time to reveal itself? no. is it "fake" art if it doesnt take time to reveal itself? what a silly statement. and you know it!
@SmashedUpFetus a waste of good piss pissing up a pointless tree there mate. You could've drunk it. GoldenRatio made a valid observation which has robust anecdotal fortitude. It may not have sufficient statistical data collected, analysed and judged supportive of its sole tenet to place it in a category of unassailable scientifically determined FACT. Perhaps by now some meticulous musicologist has given it just that.
@rodneyhatch56 but its not valid, and your ridiculous misuse of the english language (go google "brevity") doesnt make it so. "true art ALWAYS takes time to reveal itself" implies that anything that doesnt take time to reveal itself cant be true art. which is bullshit. really simple logic. and again, your writing is really awful to read. pretentious to the point of being annoying. looks like youre trying too hard to sound intelligent.
@SmashedUpFetus There is word on the street and in the comfortable listening and foot-tapping parlours of an attitudinally distinct subset of middle-class citizens from all of the countries of the Western Hemisphere, a large minority from what was the Communist Bloc and from the Third World. What this subset of the human race have in common is a peculiar bent of intellectual curiosity, and most importantly an alarmingly heightened level of pleasure derived from the act of listening to music.
@SmashedUpFetus What is well established among these discerning connoisseurs is, as GoldenRatio says, "True art always takes time to reveal itself". I'm 54 and I've known this since I was sixteen. If it doesn't take time to reveal itself it may be "fake" - that would depend on the intention of the creator. It may not be art at all, just boring, uninspired MOR pap. Do you take issue with the use of the word "true"? A careless word perhaps, surely not a hanging offence. Are "Great" or "High" ok?
@SmashedUpFetus Oh and one last thing before I jack back in - if a piece of music seems to reveal itself without "taking time" I inevitably find that after relatively few listens I am left bored with its tedious predictability, its shallowness, its insincerity, its laziness whatever etc etc...
Mick Jagger, in 1978, said Rokknroll was 99% crap but the 1% made it all worthwhile. We don't have to agree on which 1% is the grail - that's interesting! Be safe, well, happy, useful. Peace.
please, you stop disgracing the music scene. if you have not a clue about the basics of music and especially psychentelic, then don't comment at all...
It's funny to see how this music just flies right over your head. You honestly can't analyze it enough to hear how different it is then most black metal bands? I forgot, this doesn't have non-stop blast beats and tremelo picking, therefore it can't be good black metal. Blut Aus Nord puts almost every black metal band to shame. Not only with talent, but with capturing atmosphere. And if you think these guys don't know shit about music, check out the singers other band Children of Maani. Good shit
People say that French people are pussies and yet Deathspell Omega and Blut Aus Nord are the most deranged/fucked up bands I've ever heard. Incredibly dark stuff also check out Deathspell Omega's song Kenose 3 really fucked up track right there.
I remember seeing credits and someone was credited for playing electronic drums, which is an entirely different thing than programming a drum machine. Also, the drum beats don't really loop, it would be a very long job to program, believe me if it was programmed they'd a kept it much more repetitive its a long ass job to program all that
Hmmm....it must be one the albums that I don't own. Can you remember what one it is? Is it Odinist perhaps? I do find it kind of weird that BAN would get someone to play an electronic drum kit. I was always under the impression that they just used a very good sounding drum machine (it certainly sounds like a drum machine to me) rather than an electronic kit.
a drum machine sounds exactly like an electronic drum. Wheter its pre-programmed into the computer before, or the elctronic drum sends the signal of what is being hit when, its the same sound thats is called up in the end. Wikipedia has # W.D. Feld - drums, electronics, keyboards, and no one is credited with PROGRAMMING. Yes it would be possible yet long to programm these beats, but they would then credit someone with PROGRAMMING and not drums
Well the programming aspect could come under 'electronics'. I still think it's a drum machine and I don't really see any problem with this being the case. Just because W.D. Feld is credited with providing the drums doesn't mean he actually plays a kit. I think that's too big an assumption to make considering the amount of info there is about BAN's working methods. You may well be right though. Hopefully we'll found out for certain one day...
I understand that programming a drum machine with the complex rhythms that BAN use would be a long, pretty painstaking process but they are perfectionists after all...
dude,, this may not be ur type of music , but they are probably the most talented and technical song writers in this genre and in metal period. I record music,, trust me , i know
not really, the timing is erradic but it's not that crazy. it's mostly the drummer that's making the timing sound crazier than it really is. i've written material with much crazier time signatures and polyrhythms
