I agree with dalejrfan308 and thestratlars, but John's '97/'98 Premonition was his best so far. 'only' two rhythm guitarists and some really awesome guitar playing on Susie Q and 'Put a Spell.... With the right gear by the way, a Rickenbacker through and old Kustom amp. I'm not really a fan of his guitar tone these days.
@MyTwangyGuitar - Yeah, I am aware of the overdubs, but I still like his overall sound from that time, judging by some other footage (check out the Letterman shows from '97!). I'll look at the Hard Rock Live stuff.
PS Your videos are absolutely brilliant! I've already subscribed!
I've seen John twice and he kicks major booty. CCR definately sounded better live than his band these days. I'd like to see John go back to a 4 piece band. Just him, a rhythm player, bass and drums. Either way, he's better than any of these bands today.
I think it happens with nearly all great musicians, once they go solo. They put in more and more musicians to back them up, to keep the sound rich and all that.
True ! CCR wouldnot have been the been the band as it has been without Tom's influence. Agree with you. The CCR sound was more Tom then John. But the voice,,,,,,,if the Hulk could speak, this would have been his voice !!
Because John is a better gitarr player now the music is so much better, CCR was the big band in the late 60 but whit out John Fogerty there wore no hits from CCR Because CCR is John Fogerty.. and today he is back on the top of Rock n Roll . Love the music
Yeah, The Revival Band is the best band that John has ever had. It's really a BAND, not a solo artist with a backing band. And of course John is a much better guitar player now than he was in 1969.
Everyone keeps saying that John is a better guitarist these days and I disagree. For my book John has NEVER quite ascended to the heights of his phenomenal guitar playing on the very first CCR album entitled Creedence Clearwater Revival from 1968. EVERY track has really awesome guitar playing such as "I Put A Spell On You", "Suzie-Q", "Working Man", "Get Down Woman." Check out the awesome leads on "Walk On the Water." I haven't ever heard him repeat those performances.
Disagree. The back up band is a fine professional outfit. However, the combination of John, Tom, Stu and Doug simply played with more BALLS and much fatter and real tone. I hate the way a lot of new drum sets are tuned and the active pickups on modern basses. Listen to the The Concert from 1970 at the Oakland Coliseum. The original CCR lineup kicked major ass and were like a bull-dozer at full tilt ("Keep On Chooglin').
@iglandroger Don't think this version is better than the original. Fogerty's voice is not as cool as it was before. I prefer CCR and the version of them.
@Mu3d3 I totally agree w/ you. I saw CCR twice in the early 70's, and they had a more rich, funky sound then. And more soul. Maybe the new guys are slightly better musically, but the old charismatic essence is missing. It's like taking a food product from many years ago, and deleting a few of the old ingredients. It just won't be the same. And John's voice and guitar are almost overshadowed by the wall of sound around him now.
@saidramos77 Agree! Fogerty is much better now than before, well that's true and wrong in two ways; he's better at guitar than before, but his voice have changed a bit since the Creedence era (it's a little winy, but whatever)

@ccrholland - "Premonition" was completely over-dubbed in post production - badly. The *best* modern day Fogerty fooatge is from 'Hard Rock Live'.

This is even better than Creedence Clearwater Revival.
These guys is simply better musicans than the guys who backed up Fogerty in CCR (Stu,Doug and Tom)
John Fogerty himself is just awesome !!!!
