the GCC version peeps when you overspeed but it doesn't peep when you don't wear the seat belt in the us and uk its the opposite actually i think its quite weird...
It's "overspeed" indicator. Some beep at a certain speed, and others display in the LCD screen "Overspeed". It's tacky and downright wrong in my book. 120km/h is the norm for these idiotic speed warnings irregardless if they make noise or not. I'd take my car to the dealer and TELL them to reprogram it to not beep, or buy it back if I was a regular highway commuter.
All roads in North America have speed limits set up to 80mph. Most common are in the 65-70mph range or 102-112km/h. In Canada 100km/h speed limits are the fastest set for major highways. Cruising at 120km/h in most cases won't get you pulled over, making it a common speed here.
That's why any form of 'overspeeding', even more so a beep, would drive my nuts if I commuted regularly on the highway.
Alberta's changed the rules since I lived there. I lived in Calgary for four years off the CrowChild Trail (alongside the military base), and don't recall anything there over 100km/h. It would make sense that Alberta is the first to raise limits though. 140 is a bit steep I think, especially considering how some people DON'T maintain their cars, it's just asking for trouble unless the MTO steps in and starts doing random spot checks of cars, like they do with trucks, that'd be nice!

I like the new 2nd Gen Mazda 6's in the sense that they seem more stylish and offer more luxury. It just seems so smooth and the gauges look amazing. I don't like it in the sense that it seems to be more of a family car now for an older aged market. That's a good thing but what I always liked about the 1st Gen was that it was a practical family sedan that is economical but at the same time had that sporty touch that made it fun.
BTW: I'm a 19 year old that like speed if you couldn't guess =]
here in NZ we have the 2.5liter 4 cyl with 5 speed auto. Much lighter car than the ford mondeo so is quicker and less thirsty I still like the ford though
this Mazda has a 4 cylinder engine.. i have the V6 i could reach 160 by the time you reach 100.. and yours goes very slow after it reaches 120 but mine stays fast till it reaches 220 but then the limiter stops me.;..

Once you load it up with the family, it's not fast, but merely adequate.

in that case, you should go for the japanese 6 2.5L version....the Ultra is way too faster, but the interior quality is a let down; moreover, since u said you travel a lot i assume that mileage will be a concern to you, and japanese is better at it..and cabin quietness; there is wind and road noise at anything above 140; engine noise is very low and is unnoticeable...the japanese is better at comfort too..but yes, Ultra is a way too bigger..test drive both cars. i recommed the japanese 2.5 :)
Hmm...actually the V6 should be quieter and more comfortable, with the US-spec having softer suspension setting. But, the smaller Jap/Euro model is more agile, has better rigidity, looks better (from my point of view), and more economical of course. I have a 2.5l one and it has no problem doing 170-180kph. Smooth and still, compared to the likes of US Accord which floats everywhere at that speed.
if that is the case, I wonder what you would think of the new Honda Accord 2.4 (177 hp), Mitsubishi Galant and the Peugeot 407....this car just kills 'em all...the new Camry can go head to head with the 6...so far, i think only the current Altima and probably the VW passat can outclass it!

We have a luxury sports 6, im not sure what its called overseas, and the 2.5 feels somewhat too small for the weight of the car, a slighlty bigger engine would make it a better car without ruining the great drive.
are you having the american version or the japanese / euro version?? both are way too different in terms of size..the american ones are huge compared to the japanese ones....the one which i hav is the japanese model; however the smaller size still does not help the engine to move the car wid any zest!

here in Ksa we have I4 jap and Us I4 i test drove both of them the us version is not that good its slower 0-100 in 10.4 sec and its has more plastic and poorly built than the jap one and the bose has extra speakers but when u turn the volume up u can her the cheap materials shaking!! but its better looking and bigger and the seats are vented and more comfortable, but the jap version is much better and more fun to drive even than the V6 version trust me dont be sad about it u have the better car

yes because Ford's are also built in the same plant that the American Mazda6 is built, so by default just by being in the same building, the quality goes down ! :( Ford sucks so much ass. If it werent for Mazda, over half of their current car lineup would not exist. All of the engineering they take from Mazda has assured Ford is in the best position right now of American automakers, even though current Fords are still sub-par compared to the international Mazda lineup
that said, Ford's european built cars are way too better. I own a Mondeo for the past three years and the car has gone thru the harshest of driving by me; and yet, not even a single problem..a few of my friends also own the same car and they too have been happy with it..I know some owners of the european Focus and they too have no complains at all...
However, among the american vehicles line-up of Ford, the current gen Explorer is a good vehicle I must say..whoever I know who owns one, has no probs except for some dune-bashing issues caused by the RSC that cannot be turned off!

100km/h isnt the highest in canada, Alberta has a 140 I belive. And i know the highway in my area is 110. Deer foot trail is 140 aswell.

i have the same car and my overspeed alarm sounds much lower and different then yours and i dont have seatbelt alarm too if i dont wear it!! weird :-S

We have a luxury sports 6, im not sure what its called overseas, and the 2.5 feels somewhat too small for the weight of the car, a slighlty bigger engine would make it a better car without ruining the great drive.

are you having the american version or the japanese / euro version?? both are way too different in terms of size..the american ones are huge compared to the japanese ones....the one which i hav is the japanese model; however the smaller size still does not help the engine to move the car wid any zest!

I have the Japanese version, the only one which is available in Australia. Its a beautiful car and is fun to drive, just like any other new Mazda =]

yeah but the American one is badly bulit i went for test drive when i opened the center console i nearly broke it!! its so badly built than the Japanese version and a lot more plastic and the bose sounds better in the Japanese version for some reason!!
but it has great power that V6 is a hell of engine!!

u serious?? i have seen the v6 in the showroom...i felt the leather was better than the one in japanese; but never bothered to take a close look at the rest of the interior materials thinkin it wud be the same...and i thot evn the bose would sound better in the v6 coz it had two extra speakers in the rear...hmm, two more reasons for me to smile about my japanese 6 :D

here in Ksa we have I4 jap and Us I4 i test drove both of them the us version is not that good its slower 0-100 in 10.4 sec and its has more plastic and poorly built than the jap one and the bose has extra speakers but when u turn the volume up u can her the cheap materials shaking!! but its better looking and bigger and the seats are vented and more comfortable, but the jap version is much better and more fun to drive even than the V6 version trust me dont be sad about it u have the better car

hehe..thnx :)...i always used to wonder hw good the US I-4 version is gon' be since here in UAE the US car comes only wid a V6 engine and the I-4 comes only on special request...evn the previous mazda 6 which only came frm the US suffered built quailty issues..and doing tat at tis point of time means them shooting themselves in their heads :P...i'm all the more happy wid the jap 6 :) ..who cares abt space as long as the build quality is good and lasting ? :)

2.5L turbo...wow!...if thats the case, then the EVO can expect a competitor!...but i doubt if mazda shall tune the speed 6 to that extent though

yes because Ford's are also built in the same plant that the American Mazda6 is built, so by default just by being in the same building, the quality goes down ! :( Ford sucks so much ass. If it werent for Mazda, over half of their current car lineup would not exist. All of the engineering they take from Mazda has assured Ford is in the best position right now of American automakers, even though current Fords are still sub-par compared to the international Mazda lineup

that said, Ford's european built cars are way too better. I own a Mondeo for the past three years and the car has gone thru the harshest of driving by me; and yet, not even a single problem..a few of my friends also own the same car and they too have been happy with it..I know some owners of the european Focus and they too have no complains at all...

much more faster ....better top speed... :) ...and in the uae, the 3.7 v6 is the american version while the 2.5 is the japanese version, which is much smaller in size compared to the american..so u get a bigger car when u buy the v6
