I was not at all a fan of Hooper's scores for HP. In fact, I didn't even bother buying the soundtracks.
But I will admit that he absolutely nailed it for the first minute of this movie. The music is absolutely gorgeous. Deeply moving and extremely powerful. The choir and the orchestra is fantastic. Alexandre even used it in the DH Pt. 2.
I think Nicholas Hooper was one of the best the series had. His combination of choral and instrumental brings out the emotional feelings during the film. Like in Dumbledore's Farewell, you can definitely tell that it is meant to be sad, and Flight of the Order of the Phoenix is the sign of a journey. Fireworks is easily shows the thrilling events of wrecking Umbridge's plans. Also, I love his Journey to the Cave, as it definitely shows where Harry and Dumbledore are and what is soon to come.
@Maryenn16 IMHO, you love this song for the part from 0:25-1:15, right??
Cos it is overall a very sad track, and there's nothing to feel cheerful for, in this track. The part from 0:25-1:15 is completely Harry's pain on losing Sirius in the last film, and also foreshadows Dumbledore's fate in this film...as if Dumbledore is telling Harry,'Extremely sorry about Sirius, but Harry, I'll be here for you, no matter what...' It represents the loss of the two father figures in Harry's life...
Hooper said that In Noctem was the "musical DNA" for Dumbledore's story throughout the movie, and the theme in the opening and 'Dumbledore's Farewell" feels like musical DNA for Harry's devastating grief in losing the two father figures, Sirius Black and Dumbledore.
Actually, this IS the opening. There is a recurring musical theme that ties to "Dumbledore's Farewell" (musical foreshadowing, perhaps?), but this is the part from the time you see the WB logo in the movie to the part where the Death Eaters destroy the bridge/snatch Ollivander from Diagon Alley.
@bonneavent LOL it really isn't...I never would have expected this video to ever get this many views to be honest lol. I uploaded it before the soundtrack had came out just to get it out to the fans :)
Dumbledore and an invisibility-cloaked Harry are confronted atop the tower by Draco Malfoy, and before Harry can reveal himself, Dumbledore immobilizes Harry with a silent spell.
"haha! harry didn't used invinsible-cloaked.. or anything. he just hide, coz, dumbledore asked him to hide.. hehe! and also Dumbledore didnt use a silent spell against harry at that time..
@Notawesomeatall7 None of the Harry Potter films have had opening credits (so far), thankfully, and looks like it will remain that way till DH Part 2...
HP films do not mess and fuss about with the opening credits...it's the 'WB' logo, opening sequence (if any), the 'Harry Potter' title card, and then onto the film...
I almost shead a tear when I heard this at the very begining with the shot of Harry and Dumbledore at the Ministry at the end of Order of the Phoenix.
Inferi in the Firestorm and Journey to the Cave are *fantastic*
The climax of Inferi in the Firestorm is actually quite beautiful; it makes you wonder how in the world Dumbledore could be producing a ring of fire to fend off a horde of undead creatures at that moment in the track.
According to what you're talking about, that part of the song "inferi in the firestorm" is the one that plays at the end of the 4th trailer of this movie?
if it is, that will be my favorite track of this Score.

But after that, Hooper falls short for me.

...I miss John Williams.
Hooper's pretty good too, mind you. He has a very different style- more dramatic and big, and... brilliant, yes. He's brilliant.

@BarbaraPloyer333 John Williams' music would not have fit for the later movies.

This film has not one of the best openings for the HP films, but one of the best openings ever.
I was so impressed, the music is so deep and moving and so fills you with how empty and sad Harry was when Sirius died.
I also liked that the film didn't have any opening credits, Harry Potter the story is important, not who played who.
Notawesomeatall7 2 years ago 24
Well I wouldn't go that far :P It was a good opening but I've seen much better.
