i was at that game. OU won the NC that year and destroyed the 1976 NC winner that day. dorsett quit like a yellow dog, 17 yards on 12 carries and never a factor. I talked to several of his teammates several years later about that game and they said dorsett had never been hit like that in his career. lost all respect for him after that game. Jimbo Elrod had an equally spectacular play the same game.
Dorsett gained 1686 yards in 1975, but the Sooner defense held him to 17 yards on 12 carries, the worst performance of his collegiate career as the Sooners blew out Pitt 42-10...
the hit from the video Barry switzer 15 years of championship football love the film watch it alot.. even thoe i wasnt alive to know the wishbone days :(
there is nothing illegal by this hit. he din't lead with his helmet so please tell me what was so illegal? I guess you're a Pitt fan and can't handle the truth!
Dorsett never could take a hit. If he couldn't make people miss or spin so they didn't get a solid shot on him, he was done. I remember a game against the L.A. Rams when LB Carl Eckern got a running start at T.D. on a screen pass. T.D. didn't have time to spin or dodge and Eckern knocked T.D. into next week. T.D. took his place on the sideline after than hit. I loved it since I never liked T.D. and hated the Cowboys (still do.)
I remember the Selmon Brothers... I grew up in Norman, and if OU had an away game on Saturday, Norman High School would play in the OU stadium. It was awesome. Then we would go play foosball.... Great stuff... Boomer Sooner..
Ahh the glory day's at Pitt. TD was the man back then. Chuck Fusina was the QB. Pitt was strong but OU was a monster during & after that era. I believe the Pruitt brothers were there as well as the Ledbetter brothers. The Selmon brothers just left for the NFL.
He flew like 4 yards

He tried to jump over the blocker and flew into Dorsett hehe

Fine work by OU safety Scott Hill. His knees were so bad he ran kinda like a young Dick Butkus. And hit about the same.

But this one knocked both of them out of the game.
I was there and loved it.
I think it was the only game all year where Dorsett didn't gain 100 yards.
jopinofcabra 3 years ago
so why exactly did he come flying in with his back? the video didnt explain much
theydidntnameme 3 years ago
Yea Dorsett wasnt that big of a guy so a hit like that would knock him out.

Hahahaahahah oh man I was at this game. We sent Tony Dorsett and Pitt back home with their bruised tails between their legs. Great video!!!

Tony Dorsett eventually brushed himself off, but he was knocked out cold on that hit, and he ended up with 19 yards on 12 carries. OU 42 Pitt 10

He was out of the game and never returned.

I'd have to say that this is the first tackle I've ever seen made with one's back.
