Yes, I agree one the very most under-rated bands ever!!! And the really sad thing is that the lead singer who is still touring with a band he calls the Grass Roots says the original members really didn't count. I highly disagree with that. Yes there were changes in the original band, but there was a group and that group does not exist anymore.
Thank you for posting these videos !!! This was one of my favorites from the Spring of 1972, back in the 8th grade !!!! Thank you very much for it again !!!!
I was in 7th grade when that song came out. This is the first time I've heard it since it was on the Top 40. Remember it like it was yesterday. Great posting!!!
Nice job on the video but then you always have done really nice jobs on the videos you post. The keyboard has a really nice effect. Love the song. Thanks for posting!
I think the keyboard really distinguishes this from other Grass Roots songs but if you listen to a lot of GR, keyboards are prevailant in most of them.
I grew up in South Carolina. We currently live near Surf City, NC. I played basketball at our high school. We were lucky to get Cliff Noble's "The Horse" played at our school.
I am not sure if Rob and his replacement "roots" gets that far into his bag today. But they do often play lesser-known hits they had like "Love Grows Where My..." you know the Edison Lighthouse had a much better run with that one, in concert. I last heard this song at a state fair live in 75 and the group was just going through the motions. A very sad showing that day, only 100-200 people came to see.
14; "sigh" such an impressionable age. I take posters filled your walls with the usual stuff. My sister was 3 years older than me and she had the "Tiger Beat" bug bad.
Naw, I really didn't do the posters on the wall thing, but I did regularly buy Tiger Beat, Fave and 16. LOL! By the time I was 14, I had this experience as well as meeting members of Three Dog Night....who remain friends of mine to this day.
It's sad they could not continue to work together. I saw them decades ago together for the last time when they opened for The Beach Boys in 85 I think. Cory debuted two songs from his solo effort in the middle of their set. To me that was the writing on the wall because he left the tour. Honestly they blew the Beach Boys miles off the stage and the crowd really came there to hear them. Do you follow America? They had a really good release out a year ago with a concert and new stuff.
If I remember correctly, this song, "The Runway", and "Two Divided by Love" were the last very popular Grass Roots tunes from 1972.What great music! Thanks for posting.
72 was a big year of change a lot of our favorites from the 60's were biting the dust. Paul Revere and the Raiders were on their way out, the Rascals were disbanding, the Bee Gees were begining to discover a "new" sound in south Florida (Disco), the rock/pop format in radio was changing too, am stations were converting to fm. So it's not too hard looking back why this one fell short.
Man oh man, what a blast from the past! I absolutely LOVE this song and played the 45 till the grooves were gone (almost). What's a shame is that musical tastes and radio play changed so much, because the later Grass Roots songs like this and 'The Runway' are every bit as good as their earlier stuff. Thanks a million for posting this.
It is a shame that their chart run ended with this song. The pop music charts were a better place when the Grass Roots were on it. Ironically this is one of the few Grass Roots hits where they were not singing about a frustrating romantic situation.
Thank for this video. This is a very good piece of music with the harmonies of Rob and Dennis. I saw Rob sing "Glory Bound" last April at Epcot. One of my favorite songs.
Fantastic band, Grssroots were the 1970s,,Alot of Hits,Great cover band music,,But Robs Voice ..Great and great harmonies
