Hand stand push ups helped me zip up a 200 pound press at 150 pounds. With Paul outweighing me by maybe over 200 pounds, no wonder he could hit 450 and more. These would have been better form than Alexeev's 521 where his back looked like a curly fry to toss the load up. The hand stand push up "pumps" the muscles better than any erect press due to GRAVITY assisting. However, excess can lead to headaches. Cut the reps and add weight belts to avoid this.
I did the math for those barrels filled with concrete 1 gallon of concrete = 17.91 lb
2 x 55 = 110 x 17.91= 1970.1 lb
1970.1 lb divided by 2.2 = 895.5kg
that's not including the weight of the barrels or bar he used!!!! Remember there were partial or high range squats he was doing, but still wtf. The guy must of nearly been doing a metric ton. I believe it though he did do a back lift of 2.85 metric tons. Look it up it's in the guinness book of world records.
@Ringofblood i agree that it's not a beauty contest but being a fatso just for sport increases chances of diseases. In my opinion it's just as stupid as smoking.
@hassan1255 true true. But I guess its up to people themself what risk factors the want to impose on their lives. Some drink, some smoke, some take drugs, and some get really heavy to lift some heavy ass weights no one else can. Live your life as you want, but take the consequences of your choices.
@hassan1255 You do realize he lived until he was 61, and died because of a pre existing kidney condition. I'd say that fatso lived a long and healthy life
@eyesack9 I think they are 4ft traction engine wheels if they are they will weigh about 350lbs each,he was the perfect shape for squting, big short legs, big ass and waist,he only had to go down 12''and he's ass is on the grownd
There have been some amazingly strong men in the world but no one can compete with Paul Anderson or accomplish some of the inhuman feats of strength he performed. He's still in a class by himself. RIP Paul
@tajsports10 yes some but arthur saxon and hermann goerner and louis cyr would have something to say about him being better. LOve paul though. Great strongman
@kingdaleclarke there would be sweet fuck in the world able to do that at his weight and body composition.See how many in the worlds strongest man could do multiple reps that easily
His training methods seem so obsolete to some; yet similar practices are used now by bulgarian weightlifters. I see Paul Anderson was not a believer in the overtraining myth. Everyone is capable of exercising more than they think they can. It is not overtraining; just adaptation.
i told a trainer u could workout everyday if u get to that level n he said i was wrong i am a trainer know n lots of what they teach is just so ppl don't get hurt n sue there gym or company. i use work out everyday when i was younger n i was in great shape
n so do the monks n they just said his guy did squats every day.awesome he smart with his training i can see why he gate so much stronger. them the rest
While it's impossible to directly compare old-time lifters to those in the modern era, the greats of any era would take advantage of what was available to them at any given time and put up huge numbers. I'm an old guy myself and do have issues with some of the equipment, drugs and lax judging of lifts that exist today, but the fact is, a man still has to push up more weight than his direct competition to be recognized. PA inspired many of the next generation, who in turn, inspired those today.
Some sites on the net do exaggerate some of what he did quoting hear-say. Others haves these so called "panel of experts" who sit there kissing the posterior of the person who owns the site minimizing his accomplishments. I an 66 years of age still do dumbbell bench presses with 90 x 12 reps for several sets and power clean from my knees 185x10 with almost no dip. I was around and met Grimek, saw Anderson lift several times, saw Olympians like Dube, etc. in action, and many others.
Done with without roids. He did not use the most scientific training methods like today where they eat, sleep and think strength all the time.
For some reason so sites on the internet try to always demean his accomplishments. Probably because they wish to be the "gods" of knowledge after people like David Willoughby, Gord Venables, John Grimek, Donne Hale, etc. These clowns cannot even hold a candle to these people.
